LJUBLJANA AND SLOVENIA IN ITS HISTORY THE CITY OF LJUBLJANA ALWAYS SHARED VERY IMPORTANT CONTINENTAL TRANSPORT AND TRADE FLOWS. THE WORLD S OLDEST WHEEL (5.200 YEARS OLD WOODEN WHEEL WITH AN AXLE) ROMAN ROADS (IN THE YEAR 2014 LJUBLJANA IS CELEBRATING 2000 YEARS SINCE THE FOUNDING OF THE ROMAN CITY EMONA). SILK ROAD AND EASTERNMOST AMBER ROAD IN MEDIEVAL TIMES. ROADS AND RAILWAYS OF THE AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE AND PRESENT EU CORRIDORS (MEDITERRANEAN CORRIDOR AND BALTIC SEA ADRIATIC SEA CORRIDOR) AGAIN UNDERLINE THE GEOSTRATEGIC IMPORTANCE OF LJUBLJANA. IN REALITY, WE HAVE A LOT OF FREIGHT TRANSPORT ON OUR ROADS AND RAILWAYS, MOSTLY FROM NORTHERN ADRIATIC PORTS TO CENTRAL EUROPEAN CAPITALS AND REGIONS.

THE AWARD WAS GRANTED ACCORDING THE TWELVE GROUPS OF INDICATORS, THE FIRST IS CLIMATE CHANGE: MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION. LJUBLJANA TARGETS FOR REDUCING CO2 EMMISSIONS: SIGNATORY OF THE CONVENANT OF MAYORS: 30% BY 2020. IMPLEMENTATION: SUSTAINABLE ENERGY ACTION PLAN (2011) - THE SET OF MEASURES WILL REDUCE CO2 EMMISSIONS BY 30% BY 2020. LJUBLJANA SMART CITY PROJECT (2011).
