Safety Guidelines General Warnings Honeywell Hydraulic Interface Unit must be installed by qualified personnel in accordance with the applicable regulations and IEE Regulations. The end user is not authorized to work on the unit. Any contractual or extra-contractual responsibilities of the Constructor is excluded for damages to people, animals or things caused by an improper use or by installation mistakes or special maintenance as well as by not qualified personnel intervention and, in general, by non-fulfilment of what indicated in installation, commissioning and operating instructions. Honeywell take no responsibility for difficulties arising from failure to observe these instructions. Please read this manual before undertaking the installation. Upon completion of the installation, please hand these instructions to the user. These instructions should be retained for future reference. Honeywell EHIU1 is a wall hanging HIU with optional external casing. If installed without external casing it must be placed in a protected space not accessible by unqualified people. It has the capability to provide the central heating and to produce instantaneous domestic hot water. Hot water is always produced in priority to the heating service. The maximum temperature of the domestic hot water may be adjusted by accessing the digital display unit which is positioned within the casing. Risk of scalding! Even in normal operating conditions unit reaches high temperatures that can cause burns. It is risky to touch the pipes without protection. Risk of electric shock or equipment damage! Before installation and any maintenance operation disconnect electrical supply. For device disconnection use a circuit breaker or a plug. Do not reconnect the power supply until you have completed the installation. In general before any operation disconnect power supply. Device doesn t requires any maintenance. If installation instructions are followed, required water quality is provided and installed space is controlled. After 6 month of usage it is recommended just to clean the strainer. Before Installation 1. Unpack and remove the EHIU1 from carton. 2. Check the equipment and report any damage to a Honeywell representative. 3. The unit must be fixed to the wall by using no. 4 Ø 8 mm anchors (not included). NOTE: Anchoring materials must be suitable for the mounting surface which must comply with all local codes. Wiring The Installer has to check that unit fixing systems are suitable to mounting wall. This equipment must only be used for the purpose for which it was intended, improper use may be hazardous. M-Bus and electrical supply cables must be separated in order to avoid any interferences. All electrical connection must be compliant with local laws, rules and regulations. A suitable room thermostat clock/room thermostat with 230V 50 Hz output must be provided and connected by the installer. The electronic board is protected by a 1 Ampere fuse. The unit needs a 230V 50Hz electrical connection. If the unit is installed inside the apartment, power supply must be sourced from the apartment itself. On the contrary, if the unit is installed in common locals, it is supplied by a common central line. Description Notices about domestic hot water If the supply water hardness exceeds 15 f (dgh) it is recommended to install a suitable scale reducing device (softener). In order to reduce scale forming inside heat exchanger, set the sanitary water temperature to a value that is slightly superior compared to the operating one. ph value should be between 7 ~ 9. The figures/table below indicates k v values of the unit. Mounting External casing dismounting-mounting Before installation the external casing must be removed as indicated in the image. The external casing is a unique piece placed on the carrying structure: it is fixed by 2 screws on superior part and 2 screws on inferior part. After external casing removal and having placed it safely, it is possible to proceed with the hydraulic unit installation. k v (m 3 /h with Δp = 100 kpa = 1 bar) Circuit Heat exchanger type 24P 40P no meter no meter A-B primary heat 1.76mc/h 1.88mc/h exchanger Circuit Balancing type Static DPCV no meter no meter (B-F) + (G-A) heating 2.68 mc/h 2.18 mc/h Circuit C-D hot water C-E cold water 1.83 mc/h 5.06 mc/h *k vs values refer to the static balancing valve setted at 5.9 (pre-setting) and at 1.5 for the DPCV The general equation for calculating pressure drop, knowing flow rate value is the following Δp [bar] = (Q [m 3 /h] / k v) 2 The indicated k v are valid for water without glycol. Wall mounting The unit has to be installed indoors in suitable ambient conditions (see technical specification on page 3). The installer has to individuate the most suitable wall according to weight and overall dimensions indicated on page 3. For fixing unit it is necessary to use no. 4 Ø 8 mm anchors (not included), they have to be suitable to the chosen wall for installation. The position has to be compliant with hydraulic connections. It is suggested to leave a free space of 10cm on left side for an easier access to the strainer Before installing the unit, the centralised and apartment systems must be cleansed and flushed to avoid fouling of the unit with impurities or debris from the pipe work installation procedures. The presence of impurities in pipes can be the reason for unsatisfactory working and can cause possible damages to unit components. Therefore it is very important to carefully flush pipes before installing. Connecting the unit to centralized distribution system with interception manual valves (included) is strongly recommended. Thanks to this the unit could be quickly and without particular user unease de-touched from centralized plant in case of special maintenance. Take care not to damage or break the connection seals. Pipe connection torque must not exceed 50 Nm. EN1H-2615GE25 R0914 4 Honeywell Subject to change

Fixing electrical cables Power electrical and ambient thermostat cables enter the unit thanks to cable glands on unit bottom side. Cable maximum diameter: 8 mm. Cable terminals must be connected to related board inside the electrical box ( see electrical connections ). Between cable glands and electrical box, cables must be positioned in a way that avoids contact with copper pipes. Please use the specific cable glands supplied. Electrical connections Before carrying out electrical connections, please read general instructions at page 1. Isolate the unit from the electrical supply before removing the cover of the electrical box. THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE GROUNDED. Ground wire connection must be secured against releasing. The electrical installation must only carried out by competent persons in accordance with the current edition of the IEE regulations. Activation Once the installation is completed and after checking that all electric and hydraulic connections have been correctly made, it is possible to activate the unit by moving the bipolar switch on electric box to ON position. Display and keypad The LED lights on the right side of the digital display indicate the actions of the hot water temperature control system. Red LED = Valve opening/open - the temperature of the hot water is required to be raised Green LED = Valve closing/closed - the temperature of the hot water is required to be reduced In order to turn it off, press the ON/OFF button: if the equipment is still powered, the OFF sign will appear. When the unit is electrically powered, the installed software version is shown on the display for a few seconds. Immediately after, if the equipment was off the last time it was powered (default condition at the time of purchase),the OFF message appears. In order to turn it on, press the D -ON/OFF button once. The display shows the temperature detected by the sensor which is placed at the outlet of the domestic hot water delivered to the dwelling. Programming for Technician Access to programming menu. When digital display shows OFF, push simultaneously A and B buttons. When display shows P1 release buttons. A and B buttons scroll main menu and increase or decrease value in under menu. ENTER button goes into sub menu and save data itself. Main menu Under menu Function P1 X.X (sec) Where X.X indicates time of sampling temperature. Regulation range 1.0 ³ 10.0 sec (default 1.0 sec) for 24 plates heat exchanger and 1.3 sec for 40 plates heat exchanger P2 X (sec) Where X indicates delay time ordered to activation of sanitary hot water production by flow meter signal (eco function) Regulation range: 0 ³ 5 sec. (default 0 sec) P3 XX ( C) Where XX indicates the Δ temperature to be added to the setpoint to obtain the maximum permitted temperature beyond which the sanitary valve closes. Anti-burns function*. Regulation range 5 ³ 50 C (default 5 C) P4 XX (sec) Where XX indicates delay time ordered to anti burns function intervention. Regulation range 0 30 sec (default 0 sec) P5 X Where X is a Boolean variable that can be: 0 = warmed heat exchanger function activated ** 1 = warmed heat exchanger function deactivated (default 1) (*) Anti-burns function intervenes when the sensor, positioned on hot sanitary water delivery, feels a temperature superior to set-point + P3 value. In this condition the modulating 2-way valve, positioned on heat exchanger primary, is forced to complete closure and interrupts the erogation of thermal energy. When temperature goes down to set-point + P3 value, the system automatically starts normal production of sanitary hot water again. (**) When warmed heat exchanger function is activated (P5 =0) the primary circuit of the heat exchanger is constantly maintained in temperature (even in absence of sanitary drawing) thanks to the passage of a small quantity of hot water in primary circuit. This function can be activated when the unit is away from distribution columns to reduce the DHW production delay time. The anti-burns function helps to avoid supply of hot sanitary water with dangerous temperatures. Installing devices for thermal safety for sanitary uses to be placed below the unit is advised. If the hot sanitary water temperature sensor is damaged or not connected the display shows the allarm ALt. The modulating valve of the plated exchanger primary circuit is forced to closing; the flashing "AL t" is displayed. When the damage is restored the unit start again with its normal functioning. Deactivation of unit functions During summer time, in order to deactivate heating function you have to set the minimum temperature value on room thermostat or selecting OFF mode, if present. Regarding sanitary function, excluding all takings is sufficient and the module will automatically stop any energy inflow from centralized plant (if the warmed heat exchanger is deactivated). Besides, pressing ON/OFF button on keypad is possible to deactivate hydraulic unit functions. On display you find OFF and all functions are deactivated:both motorized valves are on complete closing Unit electrical disconnection To disconnect the unit from electrical network follow these instructions: 1. Electrically disconnect ambient thermostat 2. Press ON/OFF button on keypad 3. Wait for about 30 sec. in order to give time to motorized valves to close. 4. Check that the motorized valves are in closed position by checking directional arrow position 5. Move the bi-polar switch on electrical box to OFF position Electrical power coming from ambient thermostat is NOT interrupted by bi-polar switch. In order to complete disconnect the hydraulic unit form electrical power interrupt ambient thermostat power. A disconnection from electric network made without operating as described above does not grant the complete hydraulic isolation of the module from the whole plant. As a consequence the module could still take and regulate heat even though not requested. Control and regulations DHW temperature When the unit is activated and the display shows the temperature detected by the probe, it is possible to adjust the set supply temperature of the hot sanitary water. Use the buttons on the keypad: Press the A button to decrease the temperature value. Press the B button to increase the temperature value. The display will show a value ranging from 0 to 10. 0 corresponds to approximately 40 C, 10 corresponds to approximately 60 C. Then, press ENTER to accept the value. Balancing The unit is equipped with a static balancing valve. In addition can be added the diaphragm for differential pressure balancing (not included with HIU). A probe is already installed on pipe "f" to facilitate the installation. See in picture below the suggest installation. Metering The unit can be equipped with energy and water meters. Stub pieces are arranged on the unit to facilitate the installation: remove the stub piece install the meter (max torque 50Nm) - original sealings installed with stub pieces must be replaced - When installing display of ultrasonic heatmeter take care to use not too long screws to avoid touching the pipe under connect temperature sensors in the pre-arranged probes Heatmeter 1 will measure the total energy consumtpion both for heating and domestic hot water production. Heatmeter 2 will measure the energy consumption of apartment heating only. Energy consumption only for domestic hot water production can be measured as difference between heatmeter 1 and heatmeter 2. Sharp edges could cause injury. The Heat meter should be installed before the impulse copper tube of diaphragm unit for dynamic balancing. Don't bend the tube to the sharp angles - it may cause breaks. Before installation of any meter take out the old washer, clean the sealing surface and use new washer (not included). Backflow preventer As required by regulations insert a backflow preventer on the domestic cold water inlet. Backflow preventer is not included with the unit.
