G5: INTRODUCTION The introduction of Heat Interface Units to the communal heating market has revolutionised the level of efficiency, control and comfort achievable within apartments and multi-use dwellings. Unlike individual conventional boilers that are traditionally used to provide a dwelling s heating, Heat Interface Units offer an effective and fair solution to providing heating and instantaneous hot water for communal properties. Compact in size and simple to install, the G5 is a versatile unit that controls and measures hot water and heating in apartments based on the individual s energy consumption. There are three G5 models available, the G5 Eco Twin, G5 Eco Plus Twin, and G5 Eco Single. The Twin Plated models offer instantaneous hot water to all apartments, and are therefore the perfect solution for the new build market. The G5 Single Plated Heat Interface Unit is ideal for the refurbishment and replacement market, offering direct Domestic Hot Water (DHW) to apartments where cylinder storage is preferred or where a cylinder is already in place. Our Heat Interface Units provide all the hot water demands for a multi-use dwelling from the central boiler plant, this eliminates the need for a gas supply, flue or a hot water cylinder, making it an eco-efficient solution suitable for all the requirements of modern living. This communication is merely for information purposes. Giacomini U.K, Ltd. retains the right to make modifications for technical or commercial reasons, without prior notice, to the items described in this communication. G5 ECO & ECO PLUS HEAT INTERFACE UNITS FEATURES & BENEFITS Built-in dynamic balancing and commissioning valve. This balances the system throughout the apartment block when a large number of units are installed, maintaining optimum performance at each apartment and making commissioning a simple low cost task. The New Giacomini G5 Eco & Eco Plus Heat Interface Units for communal heating systems. Unit can be shut down when no demand is present (or a trickle bypass can be set). This creates greater diversity (coincidence factor) within the whole building leading to smaller overall boiler plant and pipe sizing, which leads to significant cost savings. Modulating pump. Results in improved economy (can save up to 30 per year compared with standard central heating pumps) and in line with new EU energy efficiency directives. Low pressure switch. The unit will cut power to the pump in cases of low pressure protecting the pump from running dry, therefore reducing maintenance costs. Domestic hot water (DHW) priority as standard. Heats water where you need it, when you need it, giving greater efficiency and fuel economy, reducing heating & hot water bills. Also allows for primary pipework dimensions and main boiler plant size to be reduced. HIU housed in a lockable metal, powder-coated casing, with viewing window. The metal, powder-coated casing is both aesthetically pleasing and offers good security from vandalism. The addition of the viewing window on our HIU casing allows water and energy meters to be read easily. Thermostatic mixing valve (TMV 2) The G5 unit uses a thermostatic mixing valve (TMV 2) to safely and accurately control domestic hot water temperature. The valve can be locked to provide TMV3 protection. Jig bracket available with a 60mm offset. This leaves a 60mm void at the rear of the unit so pipes can be run behind the main body of the unit making installation, faster, easier and aesthetically pleasing. Jig bracket supplied as standard with all relevant isolating valves, strainer, Part L compliant, WRAS approved filling loop. This complete package guarantees no hidden additional charges. The initial fix of the jig bracket can be completed prior to the Heat Interface Units arriving on site, preventing any unnecessary site thefts or damage. The inclusion of the strainer stops any debris in the system entering the unit, preventing damage, blockages or any reduction in the efficiency of the plate heat exchangers. Stainless steel heat exchangers. Stainless steel is less likely to suffer from limescale corrosion which would reduce efficiency and may even block the waterway completely, therefore increasing the units longevity. Energy meter available as an optional extra. This allows each apartment to be individually billed for the energy they consume, making the occupant responsible for their own energy usage. The client can either use a Giacomini supplied meter or use a preferred metering system. The G5 can also be set up with a pre-payment system. Twin heat exchanger and single heat exchanger models available, in two outputs. Flexible CH & DHW solutions. Twin heat exchanger models give indirect CH and indirect DHW. This offers instantaneous hot water and requires no storage or cylinder. Should the property develop a leak on the system, only the water inside the property would be expelled, causing less damage. Single plate only supplies indirect CH and allows for direct DHW where a cylinder /storage on DHW is preferred or if a cylinder is already in place i.e. replacement market. Water meter available as an optional extra. Water meter can be housed securely inside the unit s casing where the unit is fitted outside the apartment. Lightweight and compact. Can be housed inside a cupboard, and is easy for one man to handle, potentially reducing installation costs. Giacomini G5 manufactured in Italy. Offering a single point of responsibility. Giacomini control the continuity of supply and quality of the product, giving the customer confidence to work with a European manufacturer. PAGE: 6

G4 Eco Twin Great Homes Limited has been behind some of the most innovative retirement, family and commercial developments in the region, and as such has an absolute commitment to excellence at every stage of the conceptual design, construction and aftercare process. As a responsible developer, it uses the finest environmentally-friendly materials and ensures its developments blend sympathetically with their surroundings. The company engages the skills of respected crafts and tradesmen and women at every stage, and for these reasons it was obvious that Giacomini UK was the perfect match to bring the expertise and quality in heating that the project required. THE MAIN AIM for the project was to offer both luxurious and environmentally-friendly apartments, that had been developed and built to comply with the Code for Sustainable Homes, a government standard that encourages maximum energy and resource efficiency the added benefit being low overheads for residents. Giacomini Heat Interface Units offered an ideal solution to this, as being both a high quality product and built to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. Compact in size and simple to install, this versatile unit controls and measures hot water and heating usage in apartments supplied from a communal boiler system. It delivered major benefits to everyone concerned, from the Great Homes building contractors and installers to the High Elms management team and tenants. The use of our HIU s on this development has provided a number of benefits for both Great Homes and the residents, in particular, the use of the energy meter has enabled accurate billing for each flat, read remotely via M-BUS link, the meters have enabled the residents to significantly lower their own energy costs. G5 SINGLE HEAT INTERFACE UNIT

G5 ECO SINGLE HEAT INTERFACE UNITS GE556171 (17.4kW) SMALL HEAT EXCHANGER IN SINGLE CONFIGURATION The G5 Single Plated Heat Interface Unit is ideal for the refurbishment and replacement market, offering direct Domestic Hot Water (DHW) to apartments where cylinder storage is preferred or where a cylinder is already in place. The DHW is generated within the heat exchanger, and then supplied in a sealed system that includes a pump, expansion vessel, 3 bar safety valve and low pressure switch, to an indirect hot water cylinder and heating system via a traditional or S plan system. As the G5 single plated HIU is not required to produce hot water instantly the unit requires a much lower nominal power of 17.4 kw (GE556171). GE556171 (17.4 KW) FEATURES INCLUSIVE COMPETITOR CHECK Use this table to compare the G5 with our competitors. Fixing jig bracket Low pressure switch Modulating pump (ErP ready) Internal pipe work insulation panel Filters Differential pressure control Dynamic balancing valve Heating - heat exchanger Heating temp control user adjustable Lockable metal cabinet Primary heating requirement valve Programmable thermostat 3 bar saftey valve Filling loop Pressure gauge Service valves Upward connection Dimensions (mm) Optional (on all heat exchanger inlets) Optional Optional (w) 450/(h) 630/(d)180 HEATING RETURN HEATING RETURN DOMESTIC HOT WATER STORAGE PLAN UFH MANIFOLD OR RADIATOR HEATING FLOW HIU HEATING FLOW PRIMAR FLOW PRIMAR RETURN FROM MAIN BOILER HEATING FLOW Plan systems are designed to provide independent control of both heating and DHW circuits in fully pumped central heating installations. This allows for both systems to be operated at the same time. In an S plan system the domestic hot water cylinder and heating are controlled by separate two port zone valves. This means the heated water from the boiler is diverted to either the hot water storage or the UFH manifold/radiators depending on which service is required. Plan & S Plan PAGE: 11

G4 Eco Twin The aim of the scheme was to resolve the problems previously reported with the properties, including insufficient hot water on the higher floors and provide an accurate and fair fuel billing system that reflected the usage of the individual customer. Martin Hay, Operations Director @ McGill Electrical Ltd. QUOTE CASE STUD: (Single plate heat exchangers) HILL TOWN MULTI-STORE DEVELOPMENT (DUNDEE CIT COUNCIL) THE PROJECT A NEW LEASE OF LIFE FOR DUNDEE S AGING APARTMENTS G4 Eco Single Giacomini UK Ltd is proud to announce their involvement in the large-scale Government Home Energy Saving Programme taking place across Dundee. The programme aims to create energy saving solutions for low income areas, such as the recently refurbished Hill Town area in Dundee. Giacomini teamed up with McGill s (one of two contractors selected by Dundee City Council to oversee the community energy saving programme CESP), to help supply the Hill Town development with a state of the art district heating scheme. The Hill Town development consists of four multi-storey properties (Bonnethill Court, Hilltown Court, Tulloch Court & Dallfield Court) each containing 84 apartments. So a total of 336 Giacomini Heat Interface Units were needed to be able to implement the district-heating scheme. THE MAIN AIM: The new scheme will help resolve previous problems reported with the properties, such as insufficient hot water to 13th and 14th floors, whilst offering a more affordable heating system. The HIU s will take the place of traditional boilers, providing a highly efficient and realistic solution to cutting carbon emissions and heating bills, targets which would not have been achievable with individual electric hot water and storage systems. Instead heat is generated from one main boiler house and distributed to the individual Heat Interface Units in all of the flats within the four blocks. The main gas boiler is located in between Tulloch Court and Bonnethill Court. Each individual Heat Interface Unit is then connected to a pre-payment energy meter. This is a major benefit for all the tenants as it dramatically cuts wasted energy levels and ensures tenants only pay for their own usage. The Governments Home Energy Saving Programme estimated that the scheme would help tenants save up to 300 a year on their heating bills, along with reducing their carbon footprint and improving their level of comfort. Since the successful completion of The Hill Town development, Giacomini and McGill s have moved on to the next development in the Lochee area of Dundee. Everyone involved is working extremely hard to ensure the city meets the Scottish Housing Quality Standards (SHQS) targeted for 2015. PAGE: 12

Traditionally systems would need to be proportionally balanced, a process which is not only highly time consuming but also very costly. By including a dynamic balancing valve the commission process is simplified, through the valves ability to automatically adjust its flow coefficient (kv) when the pressure changes within the system, this ensures a constant flow rate can be maintained at the unit. Main features Balances the system throughout the apartment block ensuring optimum performance at each apartment. Makes commissioning a simple low cost task. Giacomini s G5 Eco & Eco Plus Heat Interface Units include a state-of-the-art onos PARA circulation pump. This glandless circulation pump is extremely efficient, due to its low electricity consumption, making it a key component in helping reduce energy usage. Unlike traditional circulation pumps which come without a speed control, the onos PARA circulation pump help users lower their carbon footprint and increase their potential savings on energy bills (can save up to 30 per year compared with standard central heating pumps) Compliant with the ErP directive, this pump is ErP ready for the environmental market changes in 2015. 1 Automatic air vent 2 Dynamic balancing valve 3 Motorised heating 2 way zone valve 4 Spacer pipe for energy meter 5 Temperature probe housing for energy meter 6 Primary by-pass 7 Thermostatic head R462L for temperature control of heating 8 Priority valve for domestic hot water function 9 Heat exchanger, domestic hot water function 10 Flow switch 11 TMV2 & TMV3 thermostatic mixing valve 12 Spacer pipe for domestic water meter 13 Check valve 14 Heat exchanger, heating function 15 Sensor of thermostatic head R462L 16 Automatic air vent 17 Pressure switch 18 Expansion vessel 19 Ball valve for circulator maintenance 20 High effciency circulator 21 Pressure gauge 22 Safety valve 23 Electric box Pressure Switch The low pressure switch allows the control of the minimum pressure of a hot water system, according to 97/23/CE (PED) Directive. It is used to interrupt the heat supply from the thermal generator when a default threshold of system min. pressure is reached, reducing the units maintenance costs. The pressure switch has two electrical contacts, normally open. When the system is pressurised both of the contacts close. Both contacts will open when the set minimum pressure is reached. Which is right for your building can depend on factors such as: the use of the property, billing requirements and data analysis needs. G5 Eco & Eco Plus Energy Meters: Water Meter M-BUS M-BUS Metering offers a cost-effective method of collecting readings from multiple meters. Domestic cold water meter (M-BUS): GE552190 An M-BUS module is installed within each Heat Interface Unit; which are connected via cables to a master system (M-BUS Master). All M-BUS meter readings are collected at this main central point (M-BUS Master). This central data logger collects both group and individual data, which is saved in its memory. This data is then accessed directly or remotely via a computer through the use of a modem. Pre-Payment Heat Interface Units can be adapted to work with Pre-Payment Metering Systems. Each apartment is fitted with a pre-payment unit (module) which uses smartcard technology to allow customers to topup credit to their heating systems. Credit can be purchased at a local shop or post office, allowing each tenant complete control over his or her energy expenditure. To install a pre-payment metering system an additional motorised valve needs to be fitted to the HIU s. When all credit has been exhausted the valve will shut off the primary heat supply to the unit, ensuring that the tenant doesn t accumulate any bad debt. Wireless Wireless Metering uses Bluetooth technology to transmit data from individual apartments to a mobile device (PDA) for data analysis and billing. With the wireless module installed within the Heat Interface Unit, an individual meter reading can be captured using a walk-by radio receiver. This hand held reader is used to collect individual readings from each Heat Interface Unit within the building, and then transfers the information in to a database to allow for analysis of the energy usage and for personalised billing. Mechanical Water Meter with remote reading output. The water meter is used for the monitoring of domestic water consumption. This single jet mechanical meter is pre-set for MBUS communication through an (REED) impulse outlet. The inclusion of these water meters within our G5 Heat Interface Unit s offers advantages to both the tenants and the landlord. Tenants of the property will be aware of bills linked directly to their own consumption, whilst landlords can remotely monitor and analyse consumption of both individual users and the overall system. These water meters are intended for use with our M-BUS Wired Energy Meter (GE552159) M-BUS Wired Energy Meter MBUS energy meter for monitoring energy consumption by sending data to a central collection point via M-BUS. Please note: GE552190 (M-BUS water meter) & GE552159 (M-BUS energy meter) are optional components. PAGE: 21
