Museum s spaces rental for private events
MEAM Museu Europeu d Art Modern The Palau Gomis The MEAM (Museu Europeu d Art Modern) was inaugurated in June 2011, in the location of the old Gomis Palace, at Barra de Ferro Street, near the Picasso Museum, at the corner of Moncada and Princesa streets in Barcelona. The building is an old Palace of the 18th Century, built by Merchant Gomis in 1792, when Princesa Street did not exist yet. During the Napoleon invasion, the Marshall of the French troops set his headquarters in the palace. Later, and because of the French protests (also applied in the Parisian boulevards) the Princesa Street was created to allow fast connection between The Rambla and Ciutadella Park, via Ferran and Princesa streets. This is when the building was sliced, and remained divided in two at the beginning of the 20th Century, when dwellings were reformed and they built the unique Modernist porch of the Old town. The year 2000, the building was bought by a Dutch Artist Millionaire who started the renovation of the Noble floor and received a FAD Award. In 2006, it was acquired by the Foundation of Arts and Artists directed by Architect Jose Manuel Infiesta who completed the whole ensemble with Architect Jordi Garcés, author of other museums remodelling such as the Picasso, The Godia Foundation, etc. In 2011, it was opened to the public. Initially, a collection of Contemporary Figurative collection of paintings and sculptures is presented, including 230 artworks of actual artists who have realized their work in the 21st Century. Later, this collection will rotate with other collections of the Foundation such as the 20th Century European Sculpture or the Catalan Sculpture. Moreover its activity as plastic arts museum, its directors wish is to link with the town, by steady organization of activities, concerts (Blues cycle, World music, classic music) school visits and a long etcetera. In this way, space rental for citizenship activities, companies, societies, entities, etc. for local acts, private activities or any other initiative, is part of the Foundation s priorities.
