Speaker s CV/Bio and Synopses Presentation and Sharing of ABC Waters Best Practices on Greenwood Sanctuary@Admiralty Speaker s Profile Ms Tay Bee Choo currently heads the Landscape Unit in Housing & Development Board (HDB), which oversees the landscape design in new housing estates as well as estates undergoing upgrading. Amongst her many responsibilities is the pivotal role of guiding the consultants in the design of outdoor spaces and related facilities. She and her team are also responsible for ensuring the greenery in all HDB estates are maintained and all requests for tree felling are accompanied by tree replacements. Under her leadership, she has helped transformed HDB s landscape environment. A Landscape Architect by training, she has demonstrated that high rise high density public housing does not necessary translates into a concrete urban jungle. Rather, the greening of public housing has become her new challenge as HDB looks forward to creating environmentally-friendly and sustainable green homes for people to live, work and play Abstract To be furnished Presentation and Sharing of ABC Waters Best Practices on Kg Admiralty To be furnished Presentation and Sharing of ABC Waters Best Practices on Oasis Terrace Speaker s Profile Koh Jiann Bin ABC Waters Professional Jiann Bin leads a specialist consulting team in design, engineering, and construction of integrated solutions for such systems as ABC Waters, stormwater management &detention, rainwater harvesting, non-potable water treatment for reuse, auto-irrigation, and monitoring &control. He has excellent technical experience in the projects for condominiums, public housing, as well as institutions. As a landscape architect, he was intensively involved in the design work and site implementation of landscape design for hotels, resorts and condominiums. He is an invited speaker for the ABC Waters Professional certification courses at The Institution of Engineers, Singapore and has spoken at the Centre of Urban Greenery& Ecology, National Parks Board on Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) subjects.

His expertise in environmental engineering design and implementation coupled with his landscape design experience and horticultural knowledge allow him a unique insight into the WSUD approach to stormwater management. He applies these synthesised skills and knowledge rigorously to all his works from broad strategies to design details. Abstract LANDSCAPE CONCEPT The landscape concept of Oasis Terraces has three key elements: the inclined gardens, roof garden, and the rain garden. These are designed to communicate, educate and inspire the general public and specific user groups. The trapezoids of the inclined gardens will be display spaces that maximize the recreational aspect of passively looking out to the waterway. Moreover, they will exhibit horticultural design spaces with a dynamic color scheme using variegated foliage of plants species with different colors and sizes. Toddler playground and water playground will be on the 4th and 5th storey. The walk-up along the trapezoids will finally end at the roof garden on the 6th storey where the adult fitness corner and community farming will be located. At the rain gardens, the general public can find respite in the quiet outdoor space. They can learn about the ABC Waters initiative of Oasis Terrace through the educational signage located around the area. Similar to the gardens, planting within the architectural spaces such as corridors and facade planters will also have a variation of plants species and small trees that will attract birds and butterflies to the building, thereby bringing people closer to nature.

Presentation and Sharing of ABC Waters Best Practices on Paya Lebar Quarter

Abstract Paya Lebar Quarter, developed by Lendlease, is the first mixed use development in Singapore by a private developer to receive the PUB ABC Waters Certification. Centrally located in the heart of an upcoming regional business hub and a pedestrian-friendly new city precinct, Paya Lebar Quarter will offer an exciting mix of progressive Grade A workspaces, mid-to-mid plus retail mall and private residences, set amidst a generous and lush green public spaces. At this session, Ms Michelle Lee, Sustainability Director, Paya Lebar Quarter, will share the holistic approach taken towards Sustainability at Paya Lebar Quarter, and how this was demonstrated in its landscape design as well as the pursuit of the ABC Waters certification for the development. Mr Richard Outhwaite, Director, Web Earth Pte Ltd and consultant for ABC Waters Design at Paya Lebar Quarter, will then introduce the ABC Waters Strategy adopted at the development and how ABC Waters design features were innovatively integrated into the landscape, by providing drainage cells to create a detention zone below the rain gardens. Since 2010, 62 projects have been certified with the ABC Waters Certification. PUB has been successful in encouraging the adoption of the ABC Waters Concept by both public and private sectors.
