Landscape Design Contest at Hoffman Nursery, Inc.! Would you like to design a project and see it through to installation? Hoffman Nursery is looking for motivated, enthusiastic, and creative students to submit designs for the landscape around the entrance to our main office. It s a chance to get your name out to the horticulture industry. Send us a design (individuals only no teams for this, please) and show us all your skills! If your design is chosen, landscape contractors and design professionals will see your handiwork when they pick up plants. Tours for industry professionals will start in front of your design. And 2018 offers a unique opportunity: during the Perennial Plant Association (PPA) s annual symposium in late July, we expect between 400 and 500 industry professionals to tour Hoffman Nursery! What to submit: 1. A planting plan for the bed in front of the office. We suggest including a plan view and perspective or elevation drawing, but send what you think best represents your design. The scale is up to you. 2. A separate document with the plant list. 3. A text document that explains the ideas behind your design (no more than one page of text). 4. The completed Entry Application available at http://hoffmannursery.com/landscape-designcontest. Keep in mind: - Grasses should feature prominently in your design, but feel free to add in other herbaceous perennials. You can use any of our grasses in your design. To see what we grow, check out our availability at hoffmannursery.com. - We are looking for a design that s eye-catching but also welcoming for visitors. - The Acer (maple), Styrax (snowbell), and Liquidambar (sweetgum) need to stay and be integrated into your design. - The small walkway needs to be removed and replaced with a safer, wider surface. The shape, size, placement, and materials are up to you, but safety is a top priority. - Right now, the bed is edged in wood, and that s open for redesign, too. - We love exciting, innovative designs, but the project should be manageable. You may want to look at our website to get a feel for our nursery (and check out the link below under More info for pictures). If your design is chosen, you win: - If you choose to, the opportunity to serve as project manager during the installation (planned for Spring 2018, but no later than May 15 th ) Landscape Design Contest Page 1 of 8
- Professional images of the project taken by our marketing team for your design portfolio (great for future job applications!). - A showcase for your design skills. We would like you to present your project to participants on the landscape design tour during their visit. This will be a terrific opportunity for you to show prominent and respected industry people your skills. - A scholarship of $500.00 for registration at this year s PPA symposium in Raleigh.
