Locate wires 9 and in the grid electrical box and carefully pull the wires through the flex conduit until they are completely removed from the conduit. Disconnect the wires from the heater connections and discard the wires. Figure 3 - Grid Electrical Box. Carefully remove the probe (, Figure 3) from the hole in the center of the grid electrical box. Clean the probe. Take care not to kink or make sharp bends in the copper capillary tube when removing the probe. Kinks or sharp bends will prevent the probe from functioning properly.. Separate the conduit nut (, Figure 3) from the 45-degree conduit fitting (3, Figure 3) and carefully pull the probe through the conduit fitting.. Remove the locknut (5, Figure ) from the control box end of the conduit. 3. Carefully slide the flex conduit over the probe until the conduit is completely removed. 4. Remove the screws (4, Figure 3) which secure the male sleeve (5) to the grid (6), and lower the male sleeve until it rests on the female sleeve. 5. Using a 5/6" wrench, remove the screws (, Figure 3) which secure the grid (6) to the hopper flange (8), and remove the grid, grid electrical box and upper and lower insulators (7 and 9). The grid electrical bclx may have to be removed from the grid to gain access to the screws. NOTE: Leave grid heaters and wiringconnected to the grid. The old grid heaters are not compatible with the new grid and grid wiring, and must not be reused. ISSUED 484 SUPERSEDES titw U S A. 8 / 8 3 @ NORDSON CORPORATION 984 All Rights Reserved

Atlanta, Georgia TECHNICAL PUB ICATION Clean the underside of the hopper flange and the top of the male sleeve, if necessary. A hot air gun may be required. Remove the male and female sleeves from the applicator cover. Using the screws provided (9, Figure l), install the new grid (5) and male sleeve gasket (8). Put the female sleeve and male sleeve and grid assembly back in place on the applicator. Using the screws provided (9, Figure l), install the hopper insulator (9) and grid and male sleeve assembly. Apply a l/3" coating of RTV sealant (, Figure ) to both sides of the enclosure insulator (3). Using the screws provided (7, Figure l), install the new heater enclosure assembly (, Figure 5) and the enclosure insulator (, Figure 5) onto the new grid (3,, Figure 5). ISSUED 4/84 LlTuO!! S A. SUPERSEDES tj/ 8 3 @ NORDSON CORPORATION 984 All Rtghts Reserved Atlanta, Georgia TECHNICAL PUBLICATION 59-8-5 NOTE: Mount the enclosure insulator between the heater enclosure assembly and the grid. Be sure the holes in the enclosure insulator and the heater enclosure assembly are properly aligned with the holes in the grid (Figure 4).. Apply a coating of RTV sealant to one side of the heater retainer plate (6, Figure l), and using the screws provided (7, Figure ), install the heater retainer plate onto the back of the new grid as shown in Figure 5 (with the sealant between the grid and the heater retainer plate).. Remove the locknut, washers, and ground wire from the ground stud (4, Figure ), slide the push-on tab (4, Figure ) onto the ground stud, and replace the ground wire, washers and locknut. Make sure the locknut is tight. 3. Locate the control relay (3, Figure ) in the control box. 4. Remove the two screws which secure the control relay to the control box. 5. Insert the overtemperature thermostat mounting bracket (, Figure ) behind the control relay. 6. Using the standoff screws (3, Figure ) and standoff spacers (7, Figure ) provided, reinstall the control relay and thermostat mounting bracket as shown in Figure 6. (Both use the same mounting holes.) NOTE: The standoff spacers MUST be in place to prevent contact between the standoff screws and electrically energized wires in the cabinet. Figure 6 - Control Box
ISSUED 4/84 SUPERSEDES f3 / 8 3 4 @ NORDSON CORPORATION 984 -..-. - 59-8-6 Atlanta, Georgia TECHNICAL PUBLICATION 7. Carefully uncoil the new overtemperature thermostat probe (, Figure ). Place the locknut (, Figure 7) over the hole in the control box, as shown. Route the probe (from inside the control box) through the locknut and hole. Make a gentle bend in the capillary tube at the back of the thermostat so that there is no more than 3/4" from the back of the thermostat to the probe. Take care not to kink or make sharp bends in the copper capillary tube when inserting the probe. Kinks or sharp bends will prevent the probe from functioning properly. 8. Using the screws provided (8, Figure I), install the relay cover (6, Figure ) onto the standoff screws as shown in Figure 7. Figure 7 - Control Box Assembly 9. Locate the MAIN SWITCH (, Figure 6) on the inside of the control box door.
. Atlanta, Georgia TECHNICAL PUBlICATlON 59-8-7 3. 3. 3, 33. 34. 35. 36. 37. 38. 39. Locate the knurled nut on the front of the control box door and remove it from the stem of the MAIN SWITCH. Carefully loosen the locknut on the threaded stem of the MAIN SWITCH inside the door of the control box. Remove the MAIN SWITCH from the door of the control box. Position the fuse postinsulator (5, Figure ) as shown in Figure 6, sliding the hole in the insulator over the stem of the MAIN SWITCH. Make sure the insulator flap is located between the fuse posts. Reinstall the MAIN SWITCH into the control box door, reinstall the knurled nut, and tighten the locknut and knurled nut. Install the conduit in the heater enclosure. Leave the locknut (, Figure 4) loose to permit more movement of the conduit. Remove the locknut from the flex conduit fitting (at the unused end of the conduit). Carefully slide both probes through the flex conduit and into the heater enclosure assembly. The probes slide more easily if their positions in the conduit are staggered. Take care not to kink or make sharp bends in the copper capillary tube when inserting the probes. Kinks or sharp bends will prevent the probe from functioning properly. Route the flex conduit wiring into the control box through the locknut. Carefully insert the probes into the holes in the grid as shown in Figure 4. For ease of installation, insert the new probe in the upper hole and the original probe in the lower hole. NOTE: Carefully straighten the probes if necessary and make sure they are inserted all the way into the grid. DO NOT use any tlools that will damage the probes. Take care not to kink or makle sharp bends in the copper capillary tube when insertinfg the probes. Kinks or sharp bends will prevent the probe from functioning properly. 4. 4. 4. Tighten the locknuts at both ends of the flex conduit. Attach the GND wire from the flex conduit to the push-on tab located on the ground stud in the control box. Using the screws provided (4, Figure l), install the new thermostat on the mounting bracket as shown in Figure 6. Close the control box and tighten the latches securely. Insert the new heaters (, Figure ) into the grid, as shown in Figure 5. NOTE: Be sure the heaters are inserted completely into the grid. 48. Connect the heater wiring to the appropriate terminals on the terminal block TBH in the heater enclosure assembly. Also, connect the ground wire to the push-on terminal on the side of the heater enclosure. A t Be sure to connect the heater wiring to the appropriate terminals indicated on the diagram directly below terminal block TBH. 49. Close the heater enclosure assembly and tighten the latch securely. 5. 5. Turn on external electrical power to the melter/feeder. Verify that the unit functions electrically. Do not heat the unit to application temperature without material in the applicator tank and refill melter hopper. 5. 53. Refill the hopper with material. Start up the applicator as described in the applicator service manual. 54. Allow the applicator to warm up to application temperature. 55. Turn the melter/feeder ON at the MAIN SWITCH. 56.
