Frequently Asked Questions 1. How much do bag tags cost? Bag tags are purchased in sheets of 10 tags at a cost of $25.00 ($2.50/tag). (Refer to the current Tariff of Fees By-Law for up to date cost). One bag tag is required for each bag of waste, but is not required for recyclables. 2. Can I use clear or translucent blue bags for setting out my recycling? No, the only recyclable item that may be placed in a clear or clear blue translucent bag is shredded paper. 3. Do I put my glass in the one stream recycling system? No, glass shall be included with your regular household waste. 4. How do I prepare cardboard for recycling? Cardboard that will not fit into the specified containers shall be flattened into pieces not more than one metre in length and placed in another cardboard box no larger than one metre cubed. The weight of such box shall not exceed 15kgs in weight. 5. Can Styrofoam packaging and containers be recycled? No, styrofoam is not accepted in the Municipal recycling program. Reuse styrofoam for packaging products and gifts. 6. Can I put reusable items out for curbside collection? No, consider posting items on Red Lake Buy and Sell or contact Second Chance on Howey St. 7. Can disposable coffee cups be recycled? Tim Horton s coffee cups can!! Other coffee cups paper is chemically treated. Bring your own mug! Household Hazardous Waste Household hazardous waste is hazardous materials used during the normal operation of a household. If the hazardous material is unknown or mixed with another hazardous material it will not be accepted at the Waste Transfer Station. Household hazardous materials shall be in its original container. Bags shall be placed in either a covered container or securely covered with a blanket. All waste & recyclables shall be placed within 1 metre from the curb. Waste and recyclables shall not be placed at the curbside overnight. All dumpsters located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner for the collection and removal of such waste and recyclable materials. All waste bags shall have a bag tag attached. Curbside Recycling Guidelines Acceptable Paper Newspapers, magazines, paperback books, telephone books, computer paper, shredded paper (placed in a clear or blue translucent bag), brown paper bags, envelopes (with windows removed) & flyers Place papers in a recycling container or cardboard box Boxboard Boxboard & juice/milk cartons, cereal boxes, tissue boxes, cracker boxes, shoe boxes, cardboard egg cartons, paper bags and Tim Horton s coffee cups Remove liners or bags, flatten & place inside a recycling container or cardboard box Steel & Aluminum Food & Beverage Cans Rinse and place loose inside recycling container or cardboard box Metal lids can also be recycled Plastic Plastic bottles, jugs and containers with the following numbers are accepted: 2-7 in a recycling symbol (turn upside down to find number on bottom of container) 1 in a recycling symbol on clear plastic (water bottles etc) Rinse containers and place loose in recycling container or cardboard box. Lids are also recyclable but must be removed.
