Not in your recycle boxes! NOT Accepted In The Recycling Program! The following items should NEVER be placed in your recycle boxes - they cannot be recycled in the curbside program. Some of the items can be brought to the Public Drop Off Depot for recycling. WHY NOT IN THE RECYCLE BOX? PROPANE TANKS: Danger: If propane tanks are placed in the recycle boxes at curbside - they can cause fires or explosions in the trucks or at the Recycling Centre. Propane tanks must be brought to the Public Drop Off Depot for recycling. RECYCLE / DISPOSAL Bring to the Public Drop Off Depot for recycling. They will be recycled properly and safely. MATERIAL COOKWARE & BAKEWARE: Cookware and bakeware, pots, pans, etc. cannot go down the optical processing line at the Recycling Centre. These type of items cause stoppages and jam the machinery. Bring to the Public Drop Off Depot for recycling. There is a bin for these items. They are free to drop off. ELECTRONICS: Electronics must be sent to a different facility for recycling - therefore they cannot be collected in curbside collection. HANGERS: Hangers (Plastic or Metal) cannot be placed out for curbside collection. These materials cause jams at the Recycling Centre and for many reasons, they cannot be recycled in your Blue Box. Bring to the Public Drop Off Depot for recycling. There is an Electronics bin for these items. They are free to drop off. Plastic Hangers (once broken) go in regular garbage collection. Metal Hangers can be brought to the Public Drop Off Depot for recycling. STYROFOAM : Styrofoam is not accepted in our recycling program, for many reasons, including the lack of viable markets for the material. It is not recyclable in Essex-Windsor at this time. Throw out in regular garbage. Avoid purchasing. PLASTIC BAGS: Plastic grocery bags and plastic shopping bags should never be placed in your recycle boxes. They cause jams and blockages of recycling machinery - they are very problematic. Bring reusable bags with you when shopping. Return to the grocery store, where accepted. PLASTIC TOYS: Plastic toys, shovels, and Rubbermaid containers, cannot go down the processing line at the Recycling Centre. They cause jams and blockages in the machinery. Gently used toys can be donated - buy durable products. Broken toys should be thrown out in the garbage. ENVIROTIP: Recycle your plastic cups and fruit baskets! COMING SOON - December 15th! EWSWA welcomes Goodwill Industries as a Partner at the Public Drop Off Depot! Reuse is second only to Reduction in the waste management hierarchy. Beginning December 15th, EWSWA will be partnering with Goodwill Industries on a one year pilot project designed to divert gently used items away from the garbage and towards reuse. The conveniently located donation centre will operate at the Essex- Windsor Solid Waste Authority s location at 350 North Service Rd., East and will be open six days a week. The hours of operation will be: DEC - MARCH Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. 12:45 p.m. Employees will accept donations of good-quality clothing, gently used furniture, and other items like books, toys and dishes. It will be a convenient location for residents to drop off gently used goods, simultaneously diverting waste from the landfill and giving jobs to those who are unemployed or who have barriers to employment. These donations will then be used to fuel retail sales, funding additional employment programs and services, creating even more jobs. Goodwill s future plans for Windsor-Essex include two retail stores, a bookstore, and four donation centres over the next several years using retail store revenue to increase the number of jobs and training opportunities in the Windsor Essex area. Since 1933, Goodwill Industries Essex Kent Lambton has grown and evolved, helping the areas in which it operates by improving lives through the power of work. Every day, Goodwill is strengthening its communities, providing access to meaningful employment and promoting dignity and independence for people who need it most. Goodwill looks forward to a bright future in Windsor: reusing gently used goods, diverting waste from landfill, offering affordable products in retail stores, providing invaluable employment solutions and creating jobs. But this all starts with donations, so please donate at your newest Attended Donation Centre starting December 15, 2012.
