Marshall Township, along with Pine Township, is currently contracted with Vogel Disposal, Inc., for the automated curbside collection of waste, recycling and yard waste. Under this pay-as-you-throw system, you, the customer, will take an active role in diverting recyclables into separate collection containers while limiting the amount (and cost!) of waste deposited in the land fill. Your cost of collection is determined by the size of the garbage container you select: (95, 65, or 35 gallon capacity). By depositing recyclables and yard waste into separate containers, you can reduce the size of your garbage container and your collection charge while directing these materials to recycling centers. The program allows for various recycled materials: plastics numbered 1 through 6; corrugated and pressed cardboard, cereal, tissue and shoe boxes, white office and computer paper, magazines, junk mail, envelopes, catalogs, phone books, paper and plastic bags, while continuing to accept glass and metal products. A separate collection of yard waste (including grass clippings, leaves, brush, pruning, sawdust, tree trimmings, tree limbs to a 4 diameter, flowers and roots) will be included 8 months out of the year (April 1 through the 2 nd week of December). Holiday trees will be collected for recycling during a two week period each January. Each cart will be number stamped and a record will be kept on file at the Township. Carts are the property of Marshall Township and come with a ten year manufacturer s warranty on normal wear and tear.

Your cost will depend upon the size of garbage cart you chose: 35 gallon cart $72.00 per quarter 65 gallon cart $74.08 per quarter 95 gallon cart $77.12 per quarter For extra 32 gallon bags, small items less than 25 lbs:, floor/table lamps, bikes, large toys, lawn chairs. Use a separate tag for each item. Make sure the tag is easily visible from the street. Tags used for use in disposing of mattresses, upholstered furniture. Tag each item separately. Not to be used for major appliances. For pick up of large appliances you must call Vogel ahead of time (724-625-1511). Attach tag to each appliance where it is easily seen by the driver. See below for special info on Freon, refrigerator/freezer disposal. This tag is for collection of multiple items outside of carts - approximately the volume of fifteen 32 gallon trash bags. Place tag where it can be easily seen. Not for use with major appliances, furniture, or other large items each of which must be tagged separately. NOT for construction/demo material. Call Vogel Disposal ahead for scheduling: 724-625-1511.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Appliances containing Freon or other refrigerants required that the refrigerant be removed by a licensed technician before disposal. You can call your own heating/air conditioning service or Vogel Disposal offers this service at an additional fee ($80 which includes the removal of appliance). When purchasing a new appliance make arrangements for removal of the old appliance some stores offer this service for free. If your store does not offer this service, compare prices on having the Freon and old appliance removed. For refrigerators and freezers you are required by state law to remove the doors. **GARBAGE RATES & STICKER PRICES WILL CHANGE OCTOBER 2014. Yes, unless you live in the Blueberry Hill Community. Q: I own a business and take my garbage there to dispose of in my dumpster, do I still need to pay the quarterly fee? Yes, there is no longer an exemption for business owners. Q: If I do not recycle or use yard waste, can I get a discount? No, recycling and yard waste are built into the base fee and recycling is mandatory for our community. Q: What happens to the carts if I move? The carts are the property of Marshall Township and are assigned to your address. Leave the carts at the house for the next tenant or owner. Please advise you buyer to contact Marshall Township for information on how the automated service works. Q: Will the Township provide a leaf collection? Leaves placed in your yard waste cart will be collected from April 1 through the 2 nd week of December. In addition, bagged leaves (biodegradable bags only) may be placed curbside for collection from April 1 through the 2 nd week of December. Q: What about Christmas Tree pickup? Trees will be picked up the second and third week in January. Q: What about us Snowbirds? Customers who vacate their homes for a minimum of two months may temporarily discontinue service.

THINKING AHEAD CAN SAVE YOU MONEY When making purchases of large objects, make arrangements to have your old furniture or appliances removed from your home by the store where you make your purchase. Donating usable objects is another way of recycling and helping those in need. REMINDER: It is very important that you place the carts 2 ft. apart from each other with wheels against the curb. They must also be two feet from any mailbox, tree, or fence post.
