VOLVO NOOK SWAPNIL DESAI INDIA
CONSUMER TRENDS. The 20 th century has seen some major changes in the economies which define the way we live. The 21 st century is more of a opposite of what happened during the agricultural and industrial economies. The term COLLABRATIVE CONSUMPTION is just something we do daily. Automotive industry is also seen this change recently.
CURRENT TRENDS IN AUTOMOTIVE INTERIOR The current automotive interior concepts define only the way we would travel in the future but the major problem lies in the fact that many of the concepts have a very traditional take on what cars of the future could look like.

DESIGN INTENT. To design a grand tourer in a autonomous future where the Intent was to design a emotional space with a attributes of a compact house or a personal space which is very emotional and relaxing for the mind and body.
CHOOSING A BRAND WHY VOLVO? Designed around you Volvo Stands for SAFETY SWEDISH FAMILY ORIENTED Stemming from Scandinavian Origins and safety is the perception of Volvo being Family Oriented, rather than being business oriented or driver oriented. Less Machine and More Human.
A space generally says a lot about how you feel and brings in good vibes into our daily lives. I wanted the space to reflect the same values of a house. SPACE CHARACTERSTICS The space had to have a very cosy feeling unlike cars of today which have a very functional interior, I wanted to create a very emotional and cosy space as good as being in a house on wheels.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT INSPIRATION SCULPTURE DIFFERENT POSTURES UNUSUAL DIVISION OF SPACE Unusual division of space leading in a personal usage space and a sleeping area. Reading nook or a personal cosy space
CONCEPT LAYOUTS LAYOUTS The space layout 1 had a problem of accessing the bed for the other passenger. As it was disturbing 2 people in order to get out of the car. The space layout 2 had a central access to the space but it made the access to the children's area a little difficult and also the couple had to sleep apart. Giving a feeling of less bed space
LAYOUTS The space layout 3 had from both the sides of the car but here the car was becoming too huge and wide also, I wanted to have a normal seating posture too which none of the previous layouts had.
The 4 th layout solved the problem of seating position so the next step was to make the package feasible without losing the core idea. The corridors were dropped as the seating position was normal now and the single huge chunk of flap was divided into two which made it a easy to use, so also access to the children's area was now possible FINAL LAYOUT The space layout 4 had from both the sides of the car but here the posture was divided into two resulting in a big chunk of the hammock folding up which was not a good idea as either both passengers could sleep or sit There was no personal opinion or choice. Also the car was again becoming wide. TECHNOLOGY USED

WELLBEING ASPECT The zero-pressure point ergonomics and the ability to slightly elevate your upper body are the keys to a healthy sleep that no flat surface or mattress can truly provide. Hammock style seating comes With zero Pressure points. 30 degree angle is postulated to give the brain optimal blood circulation rather than congestion and also allows for more unobstructed breathing.

SWISS KNIFE PHILOSOPHY The lower space had a reading nook and a space for the children which could be used by them to play or just read a digital magazine sitting besides the glass door. SKETCHES The swiss knife philosophy is applied in aircraft first class compartments, which believes in giving as much amenities and functions in a very compact space, Here I kept in mind the bedding, accessory box, refrigerator and digital magazines reading lights which were needed for entertainment and spending some good time on board.
