New York Times 15 Oct 1891 James Shier, a prominent resident of East Orange, N. J., died at his home on North Grove Street yesterday of consumption, aged sixty-five years. He was born at Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, was graduated at Marschal College, Edinburgh, and emigrated to Canada thirty years ago. He received the degree of M.A. at King s College, Kingston, Ontario. Ten years later he moved to Newark, N. J., and established a large private academy. In 1877 he moved to East Orange.
