HIGH PERFORMANCE GROWING MEDIA FOR PROFESSIONALS years

HISTORY FAFARD HAS COVERED A LOT OF GROUND SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1940. In business since 1940, Fafard has carved out an enviable position for itself in the horticulture industry. The family-owned company has not only succeeded in developing exciting new products that meet the highest standards, but has also secured the loyalty of its many, many customers. 1940 QUÉBEC PEAT MOSS founded by 10 Fafard s siblings and one nephew. Purchase of Saint-Bonaventure peat bog. 1940 1940 Beginning of the export of peat in the US. 1967 Company becomes FAFARD ET FRÈRES LTÉE. 1967 1973 Construction of first plant. Manufacturing of ready-to-use soil mixes begins. 1975 2 nd generation: Marcel Fafard 1975 1981 First composts. 1981 1984 1984 Acquisition of 2 new peat bogs (Lac St-Jean, in Quebec) and the Milot production facility. 1990 3 rd generation: Martin Fafard 1990 2002 Construction of physical and chemical laboratories and an experimental greenhouse. 2002 2002 2010 Fafard obtains Veriflora certification. (Responsible management of peatlands). 2014 Fafard is acquired by Scotts Miracle-Gro. 75 years of passion 2014 2015 Today, after 75 years in operation, Fafard plays a leading role in the industry among specialized nurseries as well as greenhouse growers. Fafard has always taken the success of its customers to heart. Helping you reach your goals has always been one of our priorities. years Thank you for your confidence in us and your continued loyalty year after year. We hope to remain a partner in your success for a long time to come.

PEAT MOSS THE SECRET BEHIND PERFORMANCE 43 Fafard s harvest and quality control specialists have always promoted the merits of peat moss. They constantly say that the key of blending really good soil lies in its primary components. Peat moss is the conerstone of a good mix and the secret behind performance. Fafard has several peatlands and some of them are very young. This allows to provide professional customers with a very fibrous peat moss, which is rarely found on the market. The company also provides more decomposed peat, enabling you to choose the options that best suits your needs. XC PEAT Very fibrous, blond peat Coarse grained Exceptional quality Unique on the market! This peat moss undergoes a vigorous screening process that ensures incomparable drainage and high gas diffusion. It promotes ultra-fast plant growth and reduces the risk of root-borne disease. PEAT Fibrous, blond peat Medium grained Superior quality Specially screened to provide excellent drainage and gas diffusion. Outperforms the average peat moss offered on the market. GERMINATING PEAT Blond peat Fine grained Perfect for use in multi-cell flats Offers an excellent balance between drainage and water retention. Promotes rapid growth. BROWN PEAT More decomposed peat Fine grained Offers good water and nutrients retention. Promotes strong and healthy plant growth. FIBRO MOSS PEAT Professional grade blond peat Medium and fine grained Perfect for creating custom blends Screened to provide good aeration and drainage. Promotes healthy plant growth. Peat moss is the key to a good mix. Both the rigorous selection and sifting of the peat moss not only allow to meet the specific needs of the different crops but also to exceed expectations in this respect.

4 ENERGY-SAVING SUBSTRATES REDUCE YOUR PRODUCTION COSTS Our research has shown that substantial reductions in growing times are entirely possible. By using a high performance substrate, you can actually reduce your heating and other costs related to production by reducing growing times while improving crop quality. Our studies have shown that using G10 promotes rapid root growth, particularly during the early stages. This kickstart allows growth to outperform growth curves exhibited with standard soil mixes all the way until the point of sale. They re what we call Energy Saving Substrates. Here is a trial putting G10 against two competing high-performance substrates. Made up of a blond, highly fibrous peat and produced using vigorous screening, G10 provides exceptional drainage and gas diffusion. No other product even comes close. TIME IS MONEY By using high-performance substrates, you can reduce growing times significantly. Economies in growth times were in the order of 10 days for poinsettias, 20 days for Patriot Watermelon Geraniums and 22 days for New Guinea Impatiens. That adds up to about 7% in cost savings over conventional growing methods. COMPETITION HIGH DIFFUSION FAFARD HIGH DIFFUSION Culture Times - Maximum Spreads Observed Days 120 100 Save 10 days 80 60 40 Save 22 days Save 20 days G10 20 0 Poinsettia Impatiens Geranium STANDARD Regular gas diffusion HIGH PERFORMANCE High gas diffusion Root quality is determined by both abundance and size as well as by the number of rootlets present. A plant s robustness, on the other hand, is determined by short internodes, sturdy stems and thick leaves. Speak with your representative today to learn more on the energy-saving substrates.
