Holding the cleat upright, insert and secure screws into the cleat to securely attach it to the wall or window frame. Top Down/Bottom Up (Not available with all styles and sizes) The right cord is to lower the top of the shade. The left cord is to raise and lower the bottom of the shade. Hold-Down Bracket (optional) Hold-down brackets are used to secure the bottom hem of the shade in situations where excessive movement may be a problem. Lower the shade completely and mark the position where the holddown bracket will be mounted. Attach the hold-down bracket with the screws provided. Step 3 Loop Control Cord Tensioner Step 4 Operating the Shade Attaching the Loop Control Tensioner The cord tensioner device reduces the hazards of strangulation and entanglement of young children and pets by limiting access to the control cord. IMPORTANT In compliance with national safety regulations shades will not operate unless the cord tensioner is installed correctly! After the shade is installed, the cord tensioner must be secured to the wall. 1. Locate the tensioner as close to the shade as possible without interfering with the shade. 2. Make sure the screw hole (A) on the cord tensioner is pulled half way down before mounting. This will ensure the cord can move freely through the cord tensioner. 3. For Inside Mount installations (B) attach the cord tensioner directly to side of window opening with a screw through the screw hole or use provided bracket. For Outside mount (C) installations use the supplied mounting bracket. LOOP CONTROL CORD TENSIONER Cord Tensioner Installation Your window shade has arrived with the cord tensioner positioned near the head rail to comply with current child safety standards. The cord tensioner must be mounted and secured before the window shade will operate correctly. To position the tensioner, grasp the screw hole and pull down to release the lock. Pull the cord through the tensioner until the tensioner is at the bottom of the cord loop. NOTE: The cord tensioner MUST be installed to make the shade fully operational. Please read the instructions included in the cord tensioner mounting hardware packet prior to installation. (included separately). Operating the Shade Pull the rear cord down to lower the shade. Pull the front cord up to raise it, until it s at your desired height. NOTE: The shade will not operate unless the center screw hole is pulled into the down position. Then the cords will move freely. Screw Hole Mounting Bracket Mounting Bracket To prevent the cords from tangling in the headrail, make sure the shade does not encounter any obstructions when lowered. Please see cord tensioner guide (A) INSIDE MOUNT (no mounting bracket) (B) INSIDE MOUNT (C) OUTSIDE MOUNT (included separately) for how to install tension device. 7 smithandnoble.com 800.248.8888 8

Hold Down Bracket Troubleshooting Hold Down Bracket (optional) Hold-down brackets are used to secure the bottom hem of the shade in situations where excessive movement may be a problem. To install, pre-drill the pin holes in each end of the hem dowel using a 7 64" drill bit. The depth of the holes should be half the length of the pin. Lower the shade completely and mark the position where the hold down bracket will be mounted. Attach the hold down bracket with the screws provided. PROBLEM The shade will not raise or lower. Only one side of the shade moves when the loop cord is pulled. The shade is not raising evenly. SOLUTION Make sure tension device has been installed properly. The shade may be caught on an obstruction such as a window crank or latch; if this is the case, feel free to untangle it. If one of the lift cords has come untied, simply re-tie the cord. Check that the cords are not tangled as they wrap around the rod shaft at the headrail. If these suggestions do not work, then please give us a call at 800.248.8888 or visit www.smithandnoble.com.
