Treatment: GEA gener enerates exquisite atmosph tmosphere Treatment stands for efficient heating, cooling and ventilation. GEA products are at home in many fields of application: in homes, offices, hotels, manufacturing companies and museums, people have confidence in solutions from Treatment, as do the owners of medical practices, hospitals or indoor swimming pools. Well-known buildings such as the Hotel Estrel in Berlin, the Dancing House in Prague or the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam are examples of comfortable and energy-saving air conditioning using GEA systems. Treatment covers all areas of air conditioning: ventilation, filtering, cooling and heating. Correspondingly broad is the product scope, from cold water chillers to central air conditioning, and extending to units such as the roof fans, warm-air curtains, fan-coil units, chilled beams and floor convectors. Even for homeowners or for small businesses, a mini air conditioning system opens up the technology of the "large" systems. GEA dehumidification devices are installed in innumerable private pools as well in notable hotels as well as in adventure and indoor swimming pools. GEA products are also used for industrial purposes as well: GEA air treatment units provide a pleasant work environment in many workshop halls. Exhaust ventilators from GEA bear expended air out of the workshop hall. The product line is rounded off with a broad spectrum of accessory parts as well as with the control system developed in-house, which establishes the communication between all components of Treatment and secures energy efficient operation permitting the integration in the building management system.

This flat unit, which has its place above a suspended ceiling, combines the exper- tise from the GEA Ventilation and Filtration business units. The key element in this air-handling unit is a compact, highly efficient elec- trostatic precipitator with a patented wave-shaped ionizer. Already valid VDI directives and European standards attach great importance to the topic of air quality. It is highly probable that future European Union regulations will soon define new limit values for the levels of pollutants in such facilities as office buildings. Cigarette smoke will consequently become a problem. Already today, however, GEA offers the effective solution: the ATpicco room-air purifier. The ATpicco system, based on the ATpicco range of flat units, measures only approx. 35 cm in height. As a result, it has plenty of room above a suspended ceiling. With an airflow rate of approx. 1,500 m³/h, it is capable, for example, of completely recirculating and filtering the air in a room with 30 m³ every 3 minutes. It is therefore an ideal choice for providing fresh air in smokers rooms or in areas with potentially dangerous concentrations of toxic substances in the air. A filter system has therefore been installed inside whose principle of operation has been effectively proven in the GEA Clarifair virtual smokers booth: A pre-filter holds back coarse dust and large particles. This stage also assures uniform air impingement of the air mixture in the downstream electrostatic filter. This electrostatic-filter stage separates the tiniest sold or liquid suspended particles including smoke particles. An activated-carbon unit removes unpleasant odours. hatches and a sophisticated system configuration simplify preventive and corrective maintenance work on the filter system. Despite the compact unit measurements, the patented wave-shaped ionizer assures top filter performance. The ionizer electrically charges aerosols (particles suspended in air), in order to deflect them in an electrical field in the downstream collector, and to separate them out. Removal takes place more effectively, the more intensive the previous charging of the particles. The wave-shaped ionizer assures this: its geometry enables longer dwell time of the aerosols in the ionization zone, and for systematic swirl of the air. Both of these measures intensify the ionization. The filtration effects of this system are accordingly one-quarter better in comparison to conventional electrostatic filters. The recirculated-air solution of the ATpicco room-air purifier offers an additional advantage over ineffective ventilation with opened windows: that no heat is lost from the room. This, of course, enables considerable savings potentials. The optional air-quality sensor of the ATpicco room-air purifier likewise contributes to energy savings. Its measured values make it possible for a closed-loop control system to optimally set the fresh-air share and the air flow rate in accordance with actual current needs. A prototype of the ATpicco room-air purifier is currently proving its qualities, and market introduction of the system is planned for the second half of 2008.
On the basis of the GEA ATpicco flat air-handling sysem, the GEA has developed a room-air purifier that effectively separates dust, cigarette smoke, and other toxic substances. The unit is installed above a suspended ceiling. An electrostatic filter is the key component of the ATpicco room-air purifier. It separates suspended particles (including smoke particles), and is designed for an airflow rate of approx. 1,500 m³/h.

They will supersede the previously offered units, and will offer an expanded performance spectrum. For both the GSAC models (chillers alone), as well as for GSAH types (with additional heat-pump switchover function), there are now for both model groups 5 new systems for 230-V and 6 new systems for 400-V connection. The cooling capacity for the smallest unit is now 4.6 kw (until now: 5.5 kw), and the cooling capacity for the largest unit is now 14.6 kw (until now: 11.1 kw). The heating capacity covers a range of 5.7 kw (until now: 5.9 kw) to 16.8 kw (until now: 12.4 kw). In spring and autumn the heat pump of the GSAH models can effectively heat rooms climatecontrolled by GEA acqua 2, since it functions at outside temperatures of -7 to 20 C. Each of the new chiller groups is now available in one version for outdoor installation (for locations behind buildings or on the roof, for example) or as a version for installation inside buildings. As a result, a total of 44 different units are available: which means that GEA acqua 2 will effectively cover requirements for single-family homes, or for the climate control of shops or other small commercial facilities. These new chillers adjust the fan speed as a function of condensation pressure. They also offer a speed-controlled water pump, as well as further features for energy-efficient and demand-driven operation. The chillers are also very quiet, so as not to disturb a quiet home. Systems may be installed without a refrigeration ion certificate The complete GEA acqua 2 system consists of chillers and quiet fancoil units for installation in climate-controlled rooms. During winter the fan-coil units perform the heating function, and cool the room air in summer. Depending on demand, the fan-coil units use the heating circulation system of the normal central-heating system, or they take their useful energy from the chiller or from its heat pump. Responsible: Director of GEA
Since the GEA acqua 2 uses water circulation systems to distribute its useful energy throughout a building, the system may also be installed by fitters who do not have refrigeration certification. As a result, heating-system installation staff can now enter the field of climate control with cooling features, since they are essentially installing a heating system that can also cool. The new chiller for the GEA acqua 2 smallscale climate-control system now offers a broader selection spectrum: from 4.6 to 14.6 kw of cooling capacity. They are available as versions for outside installation, or for installation inside buildings.

These systems have been optimized for energyefficient operation, and they exceed the efficiency of their predecessor models (which used refrigerant R407C) at partial load by up to 40% (depending on the model). The new models from series GLWH 0152 BD2 to GLWH 1204 BD2 offer a reversible circulation system, which enables simple switchover between cooling and heating operation by the use of a 4-way valve. With the predecessor models, moving from one mode of operation to the other was necessary hydraulically. The small chiller versions with heat pump and 2 scroll compressors in 1 refrigeration circulation system offer refrigeration capacity from 43 to 186 kw, and provide heat output from 50 to 215 kw. The large models have 4 scroll compressors in 2 refrigeration circulation systems, and deliver 173 to 371 kw of cooling, and 202 to 428 kw of heat, depending on model. The condenser operates at cooling-water outlet temperatures up to 52 C. Overall, the new series includes 19 different model sizes, which allows precise matching to the respective case of application. If required, integrated pump modules are also available. Beginning immediately, GEA Happel Klimatechnik GmbH is offering new water-cooled heat pumps for indoor installation. The new products operate significantly more effectively under partial load than did their predecessors. Responsible: Director of GEA
