The power output is selfregulating as a result of the incorporation of a material with a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC), increasing power as temperatures fall and decreasing as temperatures rise. It optimizes a costs by reducing the power emitted when the required temperature is reached. The cable can be cut at the required length, into pieces or dismantled on site. It can be superimposed in safe conditions, without the risk of overheated points. XCW family of parallel resistance wattage heating cables can be used for freeze protection, or temperature maintenance for piping, tanks and equipment. The distance between conductor contact points forms the heating zone length. This parallel construction allows it to be cut-to-length and terminated on-site, and provides consistent and reliable heat outputs regardless of circuit length. As the XCW cables are not subject to the inrush current associated with self-regulating heating cables, the need for over sizing power distribution equipment is eliminated. This heating cable is suitable for use in hazardous locations and in areas exposed to aqueous organic chemicals or corrosives, and can be used for continuous circuit lengths to 3659 m (12,000 m), powered from a single source. XLL heating cables meet the requirements of the U.S. National Electrical Code and the Canadian Electrical Code. The XMI family of alloy sheathed mineral insulated heating cables provides solutions for industrial freeze protection and temperature maintenance applications, withstanding continuous exposure to temperatures up to 1000 C (1832 F). This heating cable is suitable for use where high power output, high exposure temperature, or extreme resistance to environmental corrosives is needed. XMI heating cables can provide up to 190 watts per meter (58 watts per foot) of power output with area classification and design. The heating cables, coated by or combined with ultraviolet blockers, are configured to protect themselves against UV radiation.
