A difference from traditional cycle reverse heat pumps is that the heated water is produced in a different heat exchanger from the one used to produce cold water. This separates the two hot-cold sections that are required for four pipe systems. The cold side is dedicated to cold production and the hot side is dedicated to hot production. If the utility requires simultaneous hot and cold water the unit acts as a waterto-water heat pump. This controls condensation and evaporation across the two distinct plate heat exchangers associated to circulation of cold and hot water in the system. The system is capable of modulating the percentage of water-to-water recovery and air-to-water heat transfer, providing a 0 to 100 percent range of recovery.
