Set in Hout Bay, in a beautiful, tree-lined environment with panoramic views of the Twelve Apostles, this grand-scale home has everything and more. Originally built as a holiday home from abroad, it was designed to allow for every conceivable pleasure, both in and outdoors when enjoying the local summers. The tree-lined plot accommodates a large swimming pool and tennis court, positioned within close proximity and perfectly visible from the outdoor verandas and entertainment areas around the house. The magnificent garden stands out as one created with much appreciation for colour, texture and local water resources. The project manager says the owner's wish was to create a home that provided easy flow from the indoors outward, and as a result, the luxury-sized gunnited swimming pool is raised completely out of the ground and built on a series of columns for extra support. This 600m2 family home on a 4 OOOm2plot was essentially a renovation, and now also boasts a newly added 140m2 master bedroom suite upstairs. The spacious ambience of the interior is enhanced by a restful decor theme in whites and creams that is complemented by warm timber tones and the rich textures of the fabrics. The generous proportions of the interior are striking when entering different living areas. The bathrooms, in particular, 90 SA HOME OWNER MAY 2010
provide spacious bathing areas positioned in front of window spaces, where striking mountain views are visible from many different angles. The owners' desire to create a holiday home for comfort and relaxation is further emphasised by the large lounges and other entertainment spaces, such as the cosy undercover veranda with a braai and fireplace suited to all weather conditions. While the outdoor living spaces were given every consideration, the interior comfort reflects a selection of state-ofthe-art technical installations. Fine finishing touches include the hi-tech audio and visual system by Sound & Vision @ Home, as well as a value lighting control solution. The combination of a luxury home in a prime location makes for many world-class holidays from abroad. i CONTACT: Sound & Vision @ Home- Custom Audio-Visual 083 687 3333, charles@svahome.com, www.svahome.com The bathrooms, in particular, provide spacious bathing areas positioned in front of window spaces, where striking mountain views are visible from many different angles, SA 0 EO ER MAY2010 91

Iy talented people to assist her in creating -..;:!!--''''''''~dream home. "It was a huge pleasure undertaking this project from start to finish, and I am extremely delighted with the results," she says. The intriguing story of how this remarkable home came into being started with the owner's decision to relocate to Cape Town and bring with her her three horses. "I wanted to start an exclusive riding business for experienced riders on American Quarter horses, and Noordhoek was the ideal location," she says. The owner explains that this location enables her, her family and guests to ride horses across the wetlands onto the beautiful seven kilometre beach nearby. She adds that the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and across the wetlands to the sea beyond all add to the special appeal of this alluring property. It took two years to complete the project and, at the end, Centaur Lodge was opened to family and riders. The house stands on nearly four acres of green paddocks with white post and rail fencing, and horses graze peacefully within view of the house. "It is very private and quiet, and the local village has a wonderful centre with shops and restaurants," adds the home owner. The house was designed around entertaining guests and friends, and offers very comfortable accommodation. "My favorite thing about the home is that it is wonderful for entertaining. It is open-plan and, when the doors are all open onto the veranda, the spaces flow seamlessly between the inside and outside," she explains. The residence is a spacious thatched house that combines an African twist with touches of the UK. "It is finished to a very high, creative standard and gives off a luxurious appearance that is coupled with a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere." Adding to the warmth of the home is a
log burner, an open fire and a traditional English Aga that is perfect for cooking on, ensuring that this space is warm throughout the day and night. There is also an abundance of natural wood finishes throughout the house and a sandstone floor in the main areas, The property doubles as a guest house, using the self-contained two-bedroom cottage as accommodation for guests. The bedrooms in the main house are used only for friends and family who visit frequently. "I specialise is having experienced horse riders from around the world come to stay and share the joy of riding quality horses on long outrides to the beach, local mountains or the nearby forests. This home is very much a family home, and all the animals here create a lovely, home-from-home experience for those who come here." The owner says that moving to her current home was a dream come true and that she enjoyed the challenges that she faced when creating a place for her guests and family to stay and enjoy a holiday in the sun. "My seven horses have also brought so much enjoyment to many people, and it's a pleasure to be able to share all of this," she states., ~y ~ I! SA HOME OWNER MAY 2010 119
