Headland Relay P A selective herbicide for control of broad-leaved weeds in grassland Contains 200 g/l (16.5% w/w) mecoprop-p, 200 g/l (16.5% w/w) MCPA and 25 g/l (2.0% w/w) dicamba Crops: Pack size: Grass leys and permanent pasture 5 litres Packs/pallet: 40 x 4 x 5 litres Introduction: Headland Relay P is a powerful selective herbicide for control of annual, biennial and perennial weeds in grass leys and permanent pasture. It offers the flexibility of programmed spraying regimes covering both spring and autumn treatments. However Headland Relay P should not be used where clovers or other legumes form an important part of the sward Headland Relay P is active at low concentrations. Do not spray when wind could cause spray drift and damage to neighbouring crops. The following crops are particularly susceptible: beet, brassicas (e.g. turnip, swede, oilseed rape) and market garden crops including lettuce, tomatoes, peas, potatoes, top fruit vines and ornamentals. Cautions: DO NOT roll or harrow crops within 7 days before or after spraying. DO NOT spray in the rain or if rain is expected. DO NOT CUT OR GRAZE for at least 7 days after spraying or, if poisonous weeds such as Ragwort are present, until the foliage of the poisonous weeds has died and become unpalatable. In fields for hay or silage, delay spraying until after the crops have been taken. Directions for Use: Application rate Apply Headland Relay P at 5.0 litres/ha in at least 200 litres water/ha. For improved control of listed Dock species, Common Ragwort and certain other biennial/perennial weeds and where grass leys have been established for at least 18 months, use 7.0 litres/ha in at least 200 litres water /ha. Apply as a Medium spray (BCPC definition). Spraying Conditions For best results, spray in good conditions when the soil is moist, grass and weeds are actively growing and the weeds are at their most susceptible stage.

Weeds which have over-wintered or have become hardened by cold weather or poor growing conditions may be less susceptible. Poor crop competition may result in reduced weed control. Rain within 12 hours may adversely affect results, as will drought or cold conditions. Foliage should be dry at the time of application. Application timing Spray grass leys and permanent pasture from the fully tillered stage. Grass should have been established at least 18 months before using the higher rate of Relay P. Apply during the period April to mid-october, selecting a period when the grass and weeds are actively growing and the weeds are at their most susceptible stage but before the grass provides cover for the weeds. Do not spray where clovers or other legumes form an important part of the sward. The growth of Cock s-foot, Timothy and Meadow Fescue may be temporarily suppressed in the period immediately following spraying. Where grass has been grazed beforehand, it is advisable to remove the livestock at least 10-14 days prior to spraying to allow re-growth of weeds to occur. Programmed Spraying Improved control of biennial and perennial weeds may be achieved with Headland Relay P by applying in two successive seasons: First application Second application Programme 1 Spring Spring # Programme 2 Spring Autumn Programme 3 Autumn Spring # # In the year following the first application Weed Susceptibility Annual Weeds Mayweeds up to 2.5 cm Forget-me-not up to 5.0 cm Cleavers up to 10 cm Charlock up to 25 cm Common Chickweed up to 15 cm Fat-hen up to 10 cm Knotgrass up to 2.5 cm Small Nettle up to 10 cm Shepherd s-purse up to 10 cm Scarlet Pimpernel moderately resistant

Weed susceptibility Biennial and Perennial Weeds (at 5.0 l/ha) Broad-leaved Dock MS Bulbous Buttercup MS Common Nettle MS Common Ragwort MR Creeping Buttercup S Creeping Thistle MS Curled Dock MR Daisy MS Dandelion MS Plantains S Soft Rush MR Spear Thistle MS For improved control of listed Dock species, Common Ragwort and other less susceptible weeds where the grass has been established at least 18 months, use 7.0 l/ha of Headland Relay P. S = susceptible consistently good control MS = moderately susceptible aerial growth usually killed and a useful measure of long-term control obtained under suitable conditions. MR = moderately resistant variable effect on aerial growth, appreciable long-term control unlikely. Susceptible Stages of Perennial Weeds 1. Broad-leaved Dock spray when actively growing or in full leaf but before the formation of flower stems. Regeneration may occur from the crown of well-established docks and a second application will be necessary. The timing of this second application should be in accordance with the Programmed Spraying recommendations given above. 2. Common Nettle spray when 15-25 cms high. 3. Common Ragwort spray when second-year and older plants are still in the rosette stage (normally late April to late May). 4. Curled Dock spray as for Broad-leaved Dock. 5. Creeping Thistle spray at the early flower bud stage. 6. Soft Rush spray when actively growing before flowering. Cutting the rushes 4 weeks before spraying improves control. 7. Spear Thistle spray before flowering when the plants are growing strongly. 8. Other biennial and perennial weeds spray at the rosette stage. Mixing: Before spraying, make sure the spraying machine has been completely decontaminated following any previous use. Half-fill the spray tank with clean water and add the required amount of Headland Relay P whilst agitating. Top up with the rest of the water, maintaining agitation. Agitation should be maintained during travel to the field and throughout the spraying operation. After spraying, thoroughly clean the sprayer. Storage: Keep dry and cool in a suitable pesticide store. Protect from frost.

Safety Precautions: a. Operator Protection Engineering control of operator exposure must be used where reasonably practicable in addition to the following personal protective equipment: WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS), when applying by vehicle-mounted equipment. WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS), SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND FACE PROTECTION (FACESHIELD) when handling the concentrate. However engineering controls may replace personal protective equipment if a CoSHH assessment shows they provide an equal or higher standard of protection. WASH CONCENTRATE from skin or eyes immediately. WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN before meals and after work. WHEN USING DO NOT EAT DRINK OR SMOKE. IF YOU FEEL UNWELL seek medical advice (show the label where possible). b. Environmental Protection HARMFUL TO FISH OR OTHER AQUATIC LIFE.
