INSTALLATION INFORMATION It is the law that all gas appliances are installed only by a competent (e.g. CORGl Registered) Installer, in accordance with the installation instructions and the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1994 as amended. Failure to install appliances correctly could lead to prosecution. It is in your own interest and that of safety to comply with the law. The fire may be fitted below a combustible shelf provided that the shelf is at least 200mm above the top of the appliance and the depth of the shelf does not exceed 7 50mm. The fire may be installed below combustible shelves which exceed 150mrn deep providing that the clearance above the fire is increased by 15mm for each 25mm of additional overhang in excess of 150mrn. If this appliance is fitted directly on to a wall without the use of a fireplace or surround, soft wall coverings such as wallpaper, blown vinyl etc. could be affected by the heat and may discolour or scorch. This should be considered when installing or decorating. The Model number of this appliance is KF 80 and it is manufactured by:- Mesina Fires Trentham Lakes Stoke-on-Trent Staffordshire ST4 4TJ

ABOUT YOUR NEW MESINA FIRE. The Mesina decorative fuel effect vented gas fire incorporates a unique and highly developed fuel bed which gives the realism of a loose coal layout combined with realistic flames and glow. The use of durable hard ceramic material in the construction of the fuelbed components ensures long and trouble free operation. When first using the new fire a slight smell may be noticed. This is due to small deposits of oil on the firebox, but will soon disappear. Any odour can be quickly reduced by operating the fire on full for a few hours to allow the heat to fully penetrate all components. Please take the time to fully read these instructions as you will then be able to obtain the most effective and safe operation of your fire. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ATfEMPT TO USE THIS APPLIANCE IF THE GLASS PANEL 15 BROKEN OR HAS BEEN REMOVED.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION WARNING This appliance has an extremely hot working surface and as with all heating appliances a fireguard should be used for the protection of children, the elderly and infirm. Fireguards should conform to BS 6539 (1984) (Firequards for use with solid fuel appliances). Sewicing should be carried out annually by a competent person such as a CORGT registered engineer We recommend that during the annual service, replacement of the pilot is carried out The sewice should include visually checking the appliance, flue terminal and fireplace for accumulation of debris around the firebox. The condition of the coals should be checked and if necessary the whole set should be replaced with a genuine replacement set. After any servicing work a gas soundness check and spillage test must allways be carried out. Any debris or deposits should be removed from the fuel bed from time to time, This may be carried out by referring to the cleaning section as described later in this book. Only the correct number and type of coals must be used and only complete and genuine replacement sets must be used. Always keep furniture and combustible materials well clear of the fire and never dry clothing or items either on or near to the fire. Never use aerosols or flammable cleaning products near to the fire when it is in use. The hard ceramic fuel bed remains hot for a considerable period after use and sufficient time should be allowed for the fire to cool before cleaning etc. The fire must only be operated with the brass fender and ash pan cover or cast iron front in position.

OPERATING THE FIRE The controls are located behind the brass cover below the fender. The controls, comprise a control valve to adjust the gas flow and a push button piezo igniter. To light the fire proceed as follows:- 1) Depress the control knob and turn anti-clockwise to the position marked pilot. Hold in the control knob for a few seconds to allow the gas to reach the pilot. 2) Continue to hold-in the control knob and press the igniter button. If the pilot does not light, continue to press the ignites button until ignition occurs. The pilot flame can be seen by looking across the front line of the burner. When the pilot has lit, continue to hold the control knob in for 5-10 seconds to allow the thermocauple to heat up, if the pilot goes out when the cont~o! knob is released, repeat the lighting sequence. In the unlikely event of a failure of the igniter, the fire can be lit as follows. Remove the Ashpan cover, Fret, Trim and Pilot Head Shield. which is held in place with two screws. Depress the control knob and turn anti-clockwise to the position marked pilot. Hold in the control knob for a few seconds to allow the gas to reach the pilot. Insert the tip of a lit taper close to the tip of the pilot. This will light the pilot flame. When the pilot has lit, continue to 'hold the control knob in for 5-10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat up, if the pilot goes out when the control knob is released, repeat the lighting sequence. Once the pilot is lit replace the Pilot Heat Shield, Trim, Fret and Ash pan cover 00 NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ATTEMPT TO USE THIS APPLIANCE FF THE GLASS PANEL IS BROKEN OR HAS BEEN REMOVED. 3) After lighting, turn the control knob in the anti-clockwise direction to the high position and the main burner will light. To gain the most efficient performance, it is recommended that the control is left in the high position for 5 to 'l0 minutes 4) The gas control can be turned clockwise from the maximum position to give the desired heat output. 5) To turn the fire off push in and turn the control valve fully clockwise in to the off position. The burner and pilot will go out. WARNING If the fire goes out for any reason or is turned off and it is necessary ta re-light the dire it is impo~ant to allow the fire to cool for a full 5 minutes before attempting to re-light it. CLEANING WARNING Before attempting any deaning operation ensure that the fire has been allowed to fully cool. - CLEANING THE FUEL BED We do not recommend cleaning the fuelbed other than at annual service intervals. If carbon or soot accumulates on the coals or fuelbed, this should be removed by carefully brushing the fuelbed components using a soft brush. For instructions on how to remove the glass pane! please see page 7. Coals are made from a form of refractory ceramic fibre and should be handled carefully to avoid generating dust, as this may be harmful if inhaled. As with some fibrous materials, handling coals without gloves could cause skin irritation. If coals are found to be very dirty or are damaged they should be replaced with a complete set of replacement coals of the correct type. The old coals should be placed in a sealed plastic bag and disposed of as normal household waste. None of the fuelbed components or coals must be washed or exposed to any cleaning agents or water. Any damaged parts must be replaced by contacting your dealer or telephoning Kinder Fires on the number stated on the rear cover of this book. Coals must only be replaced with a complete and genuine replacement set and the fire must never be run with the wrong number or damaged coals. The fuelbed must be carefully reassembled as stated in the following section. CLEANING THE GLASS PANEL To clean the glass panel, first ensure that the fire is cool, please note that the glass panel will remain hot for a considerable period when the fire has been switched off. To remove the glass panel, follow the instructions overpage for removal and re-fitting. The glass panel should be cleaned gently with a soft damp cloth and glass cleaner PO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES AfTEMPf TO CLEAN THE GLASS PANEL WHEN THE APPLIANCE 1S RUNNING.

FOLLOWING USE OF THE ALLEN KEY, ALWAYS REMOVE IT FROM THE FIRE AND REPLACE IT INTO ITS LOCATION IN THE CLIP AT THE B017QM RIGHT HAND SlDE OF TME FI'REBOX.

ASSEMBLING FUEL BED AND CERAMICS FIlTING THE FUELBED Place the fuelbed centrally onto the fuelbed support. Ensure that the fuelbed is located centrally in the firebox, and that the rear face of the fuelbed is flush to the fibreboard which is mounted on the rear face of the firebox. See below. Fig. 2x Warning: Use only the coals supplied with the fire. When replacing the coals remove the old coals and discard them. Fit a complete set of coals of the correct type. Do not fit additional coals or any coals other than a genuine replacement set.

FIITFMG OF THE COALS Select bolh the large coals and four of the small coals and arrange as shown below -the large coals are located at each end of the front row and the four small coals are placed along the middle of the front row. Fig. 3x NOTE :- Ensure that a small airgap is left between the glass frame and the front edge of the coals

Select the remaining five small coals and arrange across the rear of the fuelbed as shown below, Ensuring that there is sufficient gaps to allow the flames to travel between the front and rear rows of coals. NOTE : The rear row of caals should 'be placed immediately behind and in-between the coals on the front row, not in the "W" shaped depressions, which are intended as a guide for placement. Fig. 4x When all the coals have been fitted, check that gaps are available to allow the flames to travel through the fuelbed as shown on the drawing below, then refit the glass frame as detailed in the installation and maintenance instruction book, then light the appfiance as detailed on page 5 of this book. Check that the flame picture is as shown below with a row of flames between the front and rear coals. Flames should not pull between the front coals and glass.
