Inspection, Testing and Certifications per NFPA-80 Standards National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards require building owners to have their rolling and Sliding fire doors inspected and tested annually, and to maintain written documentation of such inspections. Overhead Door Company of the Northland s Fire Door Drop Testing (FDDT) Program helps building Owners and managers stay in compliance with the most recent NFPA-80 standards, while maintaining the Proper operation and full closure of your facility s rolling and sliding fire doors. Fire Door Drop Testing Services Include The inspection, testing and certification of your facility s rolling and sliding fire doors to meet NFPA-80 Section 15-2.4.3-5 requirements by factory trained and certified technicians. A written Fire Door Inspection and Drop Test Report, which documents each FDDT service call For your facility s records along with recommendations for any needed repairs or product replacement. See the following pages for additional detail on inspection and drop test guidelines. A Fire Door Certification tag is attached to each tested fire door indicating the date the door was inspected, tested and certified. Copies of your facilities Fire Door Inspection and Drop Test Results are kept in our company s records in case of an emergency or any compliance questions. (see sample enclosed) You will be contacted on an annual basis to schedule future FDDT service appointments to help keep your fire doors in compliance with NFPA-80 section 15-2.4.3-5 and in good working order. Fire Doors play a key role in building safety. Properly operating fire doors help protect property and save lives in the event of an emergency. Defective, damaged or non-functioning fire doors can lead to tragic results and may subject building owners and managers to catastrophic losses and increased legal liability. Overhead Door Company of the Northland s FDDT Program provides for your facilities ongoing compliance with your NFPA-80 section 15-2.4.3-5 requirements, while establishing and maintaining FDDT records for your facility on an annual basis. INSPECTION AND DROP TEST GUIDELINES REFER TO THE MANUFACTURER S INSTALLATION / RESET INSTRUCTIONS AND NFPA-80 CAUTION: Every component of a door and its installation must be checked for determination of factors that may effect a door s intended operation and performance. The list below may be incomplete and is provided as a guideline only. VISUAL INSPECTION A) Proper Installation 1) Curtain, Barrel and guides are aligned, level, plumb and true. 2) Attachment to the jambs and proper bolts, washers, expansion anchors or as required. 3) Expansion Clearance. 4) Fusible link locations. B) Damaged, Incorrect or missing parts 1) Slats bent slats, cracked beads, torn ends. 2) End Locks missing, broken, bent or loose. 3) Bottom Bar Bent angles, loose bolts, correct starter slat. 4) Guide Assembly bent guides, loose bolts, missing fiber washers, bell mounts 5) Hood & Flame Baffle Bent, dented, rubbing curtain, holes, tears, attachment to wall, intermediate supports or missing fusible hood link. (when required) 6) Brackets & Operating Mechanisms worn, misaligned, or badly meshed gears, broken sprockets or bent drive / spring shafts. 7) Automatic Closing and Governor Assemblies Missing or broken parts, drop or release arms tied, blocked or jammed. 8) Fusible Links sash chain / cable, S-Hooks, eyes Fusible links painted or coated with dust or grease, kinked or pinched cable, chain twisted of no longer flexible, raceways. 9) Mounting and Assembly Bolts Missing fiber washer, loose or broken bolts. 10) Past replacement parts not from original door manufacturer homemade or mismatched slats and or bottom bar. C) Ancillary Equipment 1) Smoke detectors / release devices check batteries annually 2) Control Panel Check all functions. 3) Miscellaneous other equipment should be checked for proper operation and function. OPERATIONAL INSPECTION Roll door up and down in normal operation to check for spring tension and free movement of curtain in guides. DROP TEST If the door does not roll up and down properly in normal operation or if there are damaged or missing parts that will create a hazard or prevent proper operation or reset. THESE CONDITIONS SHOULD BE CORRECTED BEFORE CONDUCTING A DROP TEST. Drop Test per manufacturer s written instructions. Drop test should for automatic closing of the curtain at an average speed not less that 6 per second, nor more than 24 per second, and full closure of the curtain with the bottom bar resting on the sill or floor. Reset door per manufacturers written instructions. ULITMATE ACCEPTABILITY OF A FIRE DOOR IS THE DECISION OF THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION, AS DEFINED BY NFPA-80

ROLLING DOOR DROP TEST AND INSPECTION FORM NOTE TO OWNER: NFPA-80 and Model Codes requires the annual testing of rolling fire doors to demonstrate proper operation and full closure. Resetting of release mechanism must be done in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions. A written record must be maintained and made available to the authority having jurisdiction. NFPA-80 also requires that when damaged impairs the doors proper emergency function that it be repaired with parts obtained from the original doors' manufacturer and upon completion of the repairs that the door be tested to assure emergency operation and closing. WARNING: Severe injury or death may result through improper attempts at drop testing, repairing and or maintenance Drop testing repair and or maintenance should be performed by qualified personnel with a complete knowledge and understanding of this type of door. Before drop testing, conduct a visual inspection for damage or missing parts that may create a hazard during testing of effect proper operation or resetting. Verify proper installation. Open and close the door to check for correct spring tension. Smoke detectors and release devices working properly, batteries charged. (if applicable) OPERATIONAL INSPECTION Door operates freely up and down and has the proper amount of spring tension. DROP TEST Door operation dropped properly during simulated drop test. Reset door according to manufacturers' specifications. RECOMMENDED WORK The automatic release device has been tested to demonstrate proper operation and full closure. The door has been reset in accordance to manufacturers reset instructions and left in proper working condition, unless otherwise noted above.
