Systems for Engineered Wood and Biomass
Responsible Innovation. TSI is an equipment manufacturer based in the Seattle area of Washington State in the US. We manufacture process equipment for the highly automated plants typical of today s Engineered Wood and Biomass Industries. We specialize in a few specific areas Dryer Islands, Torrefaction and Finishing Lines. Dryer Islands cover that part of the process concerned with the drying of wood chips or flakes and is a key part of the production of such products as Wood Based Panels or Wood Pellets. A Dryer Island typically includes the Heat Energy System, Dryers and Emission Control Equipment. TSI is one of very few companies that offer all this equipment from one source. Finishing Lines are the systems that convert Wood Based Panels from the Press into a cut-to-size, graded and packaged product ready for market. We recognize that productivity is paramount to our clients. The company motto Responsible Innovation reflects our goal of bringing innovative designs and solutions to the industry but in a responsible manner by using incremental improvements or new, but proven, components to increase performance or develop new applications. DRYERS TSI offers Single Pass Drum Dryers. The design has been continuously modeled, tested and developed since the 1980s making TSI one of the originators of this technology. The latest advanced systems will classify the product by size and moisture content as it dries, enabling the unit to produce highly accurate moisture readings for all product at the outlet to the drum, and improving the overall energy consumption of the process. With the addition of recycling, the systems become even more efficient and produce a better conditioned product that can enhance downstream process performance and product specification. HEAT ENERGY TSI supplies a variety of burners for their dryers. This includes Gas Burners, Fines Burners and Reciprocating Grate Furnaces. These are usually directly connected to the dryer & controlled as part of one integrated system. A Fines Burner will burn wood dust in a cyclonic cloud and can be supplied in single or staged combustion iterations. The furnaces burn wet bark on a stepped grate that moves the fuel across the grate area as it burns, then automatically de-ashes the grate. For the furnaces TSI has partnered with Sigma Thermal Inc. The Sigma Thermal engineers have a long track record of designing and building some of the largest furnaces seen in our industry. They bring that technical expertise to TSI projects and share in the manufacturing and installation of the systems to ensure seamless performance. Wet or Dry Fuel Systems Include: Reciprocating Grates Up to 90m2 Single or Staged Combustion Fines Burners Natural Gas and Syngas Burners Control Systems Fully Integrated with Dryer Site Installation of Equipment and Refractory Available Our passion for innovation led to new ideas and resulted in machines and systems that perform more effectively, reduce operating and maintenance costs, and create a better product in a more cost-effective plant environment. EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS TSI manufactures emission control systems specifically designed for dryers. Each dryer will have some form of cyclonic separation and this may be all that is required. For larger systems, or in areas where it is required, more sophisticated systems are available. These include Wet Electrostatic Precipitators (Wet ESPs) and Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs). Wet ESPs will remove the vast majority of particulate from the exhaust gas stream, while RTOs destroy volatile organics and other gaseous pollutants in a system that has high thermal efficiency. All these systems are original TSI designs built around the specific project and performance requirements. This concentrates the technical and commercial responsibility for system performance to one source. High Efficiency Cyclones Abrasion Resistant Construction Available Quench Ducts Wet ESP Upflow and Downflow designs with Condensing Tube Bundles RTOs with Saddle or Structured Media; options for Catalyst and Stainless Steel Construction
FINISHING LINES The Finishing Line includes all the equipment after the press in a Wood Based Panel plant. TSI has specialized in North American OSB plants where high productivity of commodity products and robust construction for maximum uptime are essential. TSI introduced several innovative designs that significantly improved productivity and quality in the industry over the last two decades, including Pusher Bar Saws and Primary Stackers. That innovation continues today with High Speed Grade Lines and new designs for Roll-fed Rip Saws. TSI also works closely with specialist, and value added machinery manufacturers such as Automated Grading Systems, Sanders or Robotic Paint Booths to put together fully integrated custom systems. High Speed Saw-lines Feeders Primary Stackers Grade Stackers T&G Saws Roll, Belt & Chain Conveyors Integrated Grading & Marking Stack Storage & Retrieval Systems Fully Integrated Programs TORREFACTION Torrefaction is a new twist on an old process that roasts wood chips (or other biomass) in a low oxygen environment. This boils off volatiles and low energy density elements such as hemicellulose to leave a visually darker wood chip that has a higher energy density than regular wood and a natural resistance to moisture. Applications for this product are still developing, but include High Energy Pellets, Gasification, Biofuel Feedstock and Advanced Materials. The TSI process is a patented system based on a rotary Drum. The heat energy is produced by indirectly heating the gas that circulates through the system. The process produces a form of Syngas that is ducted back to the burner and can make the process auto-thermal.
