DEFINITIONS AND GUIDANCE The diameter of a pot is the inside measurement taken at the top of the rim. A Miniature Zonal is grown in a pot not exceeding 90mm (3½") in diameter, with the plant in proportion to the size of the pot. It is recommended that the foliage should not exceed 130mm (5") in height above the rim of the pot. A Dwarf Zonal is grown in a pot exceeding 90mm (3½") but not exceeding 120mm (4¾") in diameter, with the plant in proportion to the size of the pot. It is recommended that the foliage should exceed 130mm (5") but not exceed 180mm (7") in height above the rim of the pot. A Basic Zonal and a Basic Regal are grown in pots exceeding 120mm (4¾") in diameter, with the plant in proportion to the size of the pot, and a recommended minimum foliage height of 180mm (7"). The usual pot size for a basic is 150mm (6"). Standards are plants grown on a straight, clear stem, the height of which stem (measured from soil level to the point of the first branch) should exceed the height of the foliage above (measured from the first branch or lowest leaf, whichever is the lower, to the highest point of the foliage. A plant grown as a trailing standard would be acceptable even though the trailing foliage obscures the clear stem and in such cases the height of the clear stem (whether visible or not) should be a minimum of twice the diameter of the pot. A Floribunda is a miniature or dwarf plant grown in a pot larger than 90mm (3½") or 120mm (4¾") respectively. Decorative regals are not exhibited in the basic regal classes. They are shown in class 34 (one plant, any pelargonium). Deacons may be also be exhibited in the Dwarf Zonal classes, subject to dwarf zonal pot and height requirements. Plants which fail to comply with the above requirements will not be disqualified (unless in breach of the scheduled wording) but will be penalised by loss of points. Beginner: an exhibitor who has never won a prize in a pelargonium show. Novice: an exhibitor who has never won a First Prize, with the exception of a Beginners' Class, in a pelargonium show. 5

Single flowered basic zonal: normally has no more than five petals. Double or semi-double basic zonal: normally has six or more petals but is not hearted like the bud of a rose. Distinct: meaning visually different. Discreet staking of a plant is permitted. Hanging Pots: leave on the plastic hangers, although the pot is not hung. A stand will be supplied. Half Baskets: the basket is hung from a support that is supplied. Hanging Baskets: the hangers can be removed, as the plant is supported rather than hung, but provide the necessary support eg a metal stand or large plant pot. RULES The show is judged according to the National Rules as published by the Pelargonium Judges Panel. The judge's decision shall be final. Members may exhibit in every class in the show, non-members in the Open Classes. One entry, per exhibitor, per class, is allowed. All exhibits should be correctly named. In close competition a judge will consider correctness of naming as telling in favour of an exhibit. All plants must have been grown by the exhibitor and have been in his or her possession for at least three months. Plants should be free of pests and diseases. Only standard, tapered pots may be used, which must be terracotta in colour, except for hanging pots. Terracotta-coloured saucers are provided but exhibitors may use their own. Hanging pots must have been commercially manufactured for that purpose and have solid sides. They can be any colour. Exhibits may be staged between 6pm and 8pm on Friday and 8am and 10am on the Saturday of the show. The hall will be cleared of competitors at 10am so that judging may commence at 10.15am. No persons other than stewards or officials of the show will be permitted to remain in the hall during judging. 6

Points, where awarded, are: 3 for 1 st, 2 for 2 nd, 1 for 3 rd. In the event of a tie on points, the exhibitor with the most first prizes will be declared the winner. No points are awarded for the non-competitive, hospice class. Prize cards are awarded for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd places in competitive classes. Certificates are awarded at the judge's discretion. Trophies may be held for up to one year and should be returned, clean and in good condition, in time for the next show. Crested spoons need not be returned. Any contingency not covered by these Rules shall be dealt with by the committee whose decision is final.
