The HR55/25 system povides whole house mechanical ventilation to living aeas and edooms. Heat is ecoveed fom stale contaminated ai dawn fom athooms and utility ooms in conjunction with stail ai fom the kitchen; dawn though a cooke canopy if fitted. The HR25 uses a high pefomance heat exchange that ecoves heat and uses it to tempe the incoming fesh ai. IMPORTAT: It must e ensued that flue gasses fom fuel-uning equipment ae not dawn into a living aea. If any oom whee ai is extacted contains a fuel uning appliance, such as a cental heating oile, then: 2.. its flue must e of the oom sealed o alanced flue type, o, 2..2 allowance must e made fo an adequate supply of ai into the oom. 2. POSITIOIG. 2.. The unit is est installed in a kitchen aove the cooke, ut if this is not pacticale it can e positioned in the loft o any suitale location. OTE: Installation height is suject to local egulations, ut the height (H) of a cooke canopy must not e less than 5mm fom the top of an ELECTRIC cooke, o less than mm fom the top of a GAS cooke (efe to Fig. 6). 2..2 When the unit is installed in the loft o a heated aea, it may only e positioned on its ack (as shown in Fig. 5). 2.. It is not advisale to install the unit so that it is diectly aove a edoom o living oom ceiling, o in an aea that is pat of a living aea o edoom. If this is likely to cause a polem, please contact Johnson and Staley Ltd. 2.. Consideation must e given to access fo sevicing, as sevicing of the s and cleaning of the heat exchange, which should e caied out annually. 2.5 GEERAL PREPARATIO 2.5. The unit is supplied with /25mm spigots and fo satisfactoy opeation of the unit whee the aiflow ate is aove 2m /h, (see pefomance cuves on page 8) it is ecommended that the cente pat of the spigit is emoved and 25mm ducting used. 2 Fig. 2 Use a lock of wood and hamme to tap out mm spigots 2.5.2 The cente pat of the spigot can easily e emoved y placing a flat piece of wood (o simila) ove the cente pat and applying a shap tap with a hamme (see fig. 2) OTE: In situations whee it is eithe not possile o not desiale to use 25mm ducting, mm ducting can e used ut it MUST e noted that using the HR25 in BOOST mode might incease noise levels. 2.6 PREPARATIO FOR ISTALLATIO ABOVE A COOKER CAOP. 2.6. Remove the font deco panel y pulling it off the all catches and lift the panel clea of the appliance. Remove the electical cove panel to povide access to the electical connections. 2.6.2 With efeence to Figs. & decide whethe the unit is to e installed in the ight of left handed configuation. If the handing of the unit is to e changed, poceed as follows:

ZZ 66/ a. Remove the fou scews secuing the lanking cove on the ase tay and tansfe the cove to the othe extact apetue. Swap the positions of the condensate dain lanking gommet, and the condensate dain elow fitting complete with plastic washe. Access to the dain elow nut may e may gained though the extact apetue. c. Refeing to Fig., intechange the following connections on the teminal lock: ELLOW lead fom teminal 5 to teminal 6 BLUE lead fom teminal 6 to teminal 5 FRESH I STALE OUT FRESH OUT STALE I STALE I FRESH OUT STALE OUT FRESH I Fig. L/H Configuation. Fig. R/H Configuation. 2. CODESATE. IMPORTAT: At times the unit might poduce condensate which MUST e dained away. The unit is povided with a dain elow allowing a condensate dain hose with a mm oe to e push connected. 2.. The dain pipe, which must have a continuous minimum fall of 6mm pe m un, can eithe e chased into the wall o un downwads fom the unit, to teminate outside the uilding into the neaest dain o gutte. 2..2 In some instances a condensate connecting point will aleady e povided as pat of the uilding design. The position of this point, elative to whee the heat ecovey unit is to e installed, is to e checked fo any appeciale connection misalignment and necessay adjustment made efoe poceeding any futhe. 2.. Decide fom which exit the condensate dain pipe is to e connected and emove the knockout fom the appopiate side panel. If necessay, loosen the condensate elow fitting, otate it to face the knockout hole and e-tighten. ote: oth the HR55 & HR25 units ae pe-configued fo dainage fom the left hand lowe exit. 2.8 MOUTIG (without FV5 Cooke Canopy, in aeas othe than a loft). 2.8. Hang the unit onto the two top wall fixings. Mak though, dill and plug the emaining fixing holes. 2.8.2 Refeing to Fig. 5, detemine the method to e used and make the condensate dain pipe connection to the unit. 2.8. Secue the unit to the wall, using washes unde the scew heads if necessay, and complete the condensate dain system.

Fit the lanking plate to the ase of the unit and secue using 8 of the self tapping scews povided. 2.9 MOUTIG (in conjunction with an FV5 Cooke Canopy) ote: Refe to the Instuctions povided with the Cooke Canopy. 2.9. Refeing to Paagaph 2.. and Fig. 6, detemine the height (H) of the cooke canopy fom the cooke top. Mak the ase datum line fo the Heat Recovey unit at H + 5 mm. 2.9.2 Position the HR unit such that the ase of the unit aligns with the ase datum peviously maked and mak the position of the 2 x keyhole fixing points. Remove the HR unit. ote: It is impotant that the unit is mounted pefectly hoizontally, in ode that the condensate dain shall function effectively. 2.9. Dill and plug the 2 x fixing holes and secue the Heat Recovey unit to the wall using suitale scews (not povided). ote: Fo wall types othe than masony, pepae the wall to suit a pupose made fixing. 2.9. Refeing to Fig., emove the font deco panel and gain access to the electical panel y emoving the electical panel cove. 2.9.5 Refeing to the Installation and Use Instuctions, fit the FV5 Cooke Canopy to the wall and the undeside of the HR unit.

ZZ 66/ 2.9.6 Refeing to Fig. 9, connect the canopy electical cale as follows: Bown connecto to Teminal Block TB teminal maked L, Blue connecto to Teminal Block TB teminal maked, Geen/ellow connecto to the common Eath Point. 2.9. Refit the electical panel cove and deco panel to the heat ecovey unit. 2. MOUTIG I A LOFT Mounting Kit MK5 is equied fo loft applications. These instuctions ae to e ead in conjunction with those supplied with MK5. 2.. Connect the dainage hose to the condensate dain connection (see paa. 2.. fo minimum fall) and ensue that steps ae taken to minimise the isk of mechanical damage to the dainage pipewok. Run the pipe intenally as fa as possile and insulate to potect against feezing. 2..2 The dain pipe must teminate outside of the uilding and must e un as nea vetical as possile into the neaest dain o gutte. IMPORTAT: Thee must e a sufficiently lage visile gap etween the condensate dain pipe temination and the collection point, to pevent ice uildup.. DUCT AD DUCT COECTIOS (Refe to design dawing). Fou /25mm nominal diamete spigots ae povided fo connection of the ducting (see paa. 2.5). These must e connected to the supply and exhaust ducts accoding to left o ight hand configuation (efe to Figs & ). ote: Flexile o igid ducting may e used, ut must fit OVER the spigots. If 25mm ducting is used, the mm section MUST e emoved as shown at paagaph 2.5.2 Whee ducts ae exposed in unheated aeas, they must all e insulated with at least 25mm of polyuethane foam o equivalent, except fo the exhaust duct fom the unit to the atmosphee.. The duct layout must e designed to suit the equiements of the ventilation/ecovey system and uilding layout, and suitale fie dampes MUST BE FITTED to potect against fie eing tansmitted though the ducting.. Whee igid ducting is used, it should e installed using the least nume of fittings to minimise esistance to ai flow. Whee possile, final connection to gilles and the unit should e made with a flexile connection..5 Whee flexile ducts ae used, ensue that:.5. ducting lengths ae kept to minimum;.5.2 ducting is stetched so that it is smooth and staight;.5. whee ends ae necessay, thei adius is as lage as possile to avoid shap cones;.5. whee ducting is un in esticted aeas, the ducting is not cushed..6 The inlet fo the fesh ai supply can e diect fom outside o fom within a ventilated oof space. If the supply is diect fom outside, it must have an extenal wall affle fitted if supplied though a wall, o a ecognised oof teminal if supplied though a oof.. The exhaust ai must exit to outside though eithe a wall o a oof and must e potected y a wall affle o ecognised oof teminal..8 Kitchen extacts must e filteed. . ELECTRICAL WARIG: THIS APPLIACE MUST BE EARTHED. ALL WIRIG MUST COFORM TO ISTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL EGIEERS (I.E.E.) REGULATIOS 88 (CURRET EDITIO).. The unit is suitale fo a 2V, 5Hz single phase supply fused at A..2 The unit is supplied with a mains flexile cod (PVC sheathed, -coe own, lue & geen/yellow.mm 2 to BS65,) connected to a teminal lock and exiting though a gommet and cale clamp at the ight hand top of the unit. ZZ 66/. A fused spu ox, o doule pole switch having a minimum contact sepaation of.mm, must e used to povide isolation fo the unit.. IMPORTAT: If the unit is equied oppositely handed to that supplied, then the BLUE ( ) and ELLOW ( 2) leads to teminals 6 and 5 (espectively) must e swapped..5 Installation notes fo JS6 (emote speed contol):.5. If the heat ecovey unit is to e loft mounted, a emote speed contol/summe switch (JS6) is equied (see section.). This will usually e situated in the kitchen and must e connected to the unit y -coe and eath (CMA Ref. 62) and 2-coe and eath (CMA Ref. 622) mm 2 PVC coveed cale in accodance with the elevant wiing diagam (Fig. 8 o 9)..5.2 The speed contol/summe switch must not e mounted aove, o close than m to, the cooke whee it could e affected y excessive heat and/o moistue..5. If the speed contol/summe switch is to e fitted to a suface mounted contol ox, the ox must not e mounted on a conductive uneathed metal panel o decoative tile, and must include a suitale eath teminal fo teminating the cale..5. The wiing to the switches incopoated in the unit must e emoved in its entiety and the emote switched wied to the teminal stip, via the knockouts in the top of the unit (efe to Fig. ), using the gommets supplied in the JS6 kit. Connections ae to e in accodance with the elevant wiing diagam. ote: The switch teminal makings diffe accoding to manufactue. COMMISSIOIG 5. The unit opeates y extacting wam, stale ai fom kitchens, toilets/athooms etc., passing it though a heat exchange and out to atmosphee. Refe to Tale 2 fo switch functions. 5.2 The unit must e set up as detailed in section 5., so that the ORMAL setting on the speed contol (see Fig. ) enales the ILET to delive the designed volume aiflow. The switching fom ORMAL to BOOST allows the unit to extact at a geate ate to cope with any incease in the uild up of condensation o foul ai, e.g. when cooking etc. 5. Befoe commencing the commissioning pocedue, efe to the design dawing fo coect ai flows. ote: Extact ai and supply ai volumes will not always e equal, theefoe, when setting up, the extact system should e the datum. 5.. Ensue that the exhaust and supply gilles o valves ae open. 5..2 Tun the electical supply O, and set the speed contol to ORMAL. ote: If the s do not stat, efe to the defect diagnosis chats on page 5.. Check the aiflows at the gilles o valves, and adjust to suit the design figues y tuning the cente of the gille clockwise to decease the aiflow, and anticlockwise to incease the aiflow. 8

ZZ 66/ 5.. If the aiflow is still too low (the unit is factoy set to povide a minimum aiflow), poceed as follows: a. Tun the electical supply OFF,. Remove the electical cove panel, c. Locate the voltage selecto (see fig. ) and tansfe the flying lead to the next connection on the teminal lock, d. Refit the electical cove panel, e. Tun the electical supply O. 5..5 Re-measue the aiflows at the gilles o valves as detailed in paa 5.., and epeat the pocedue until the coect aiflows ae achieved. 5..6 Set the speed contol to BOOST and ensue that the aiflows incease. 5.. If the unit is installed with a Johnson & Staley wam ai heate, the aiflow is to e set y taking measuements at the extact gilles o valves. 6. SERVICIG IMPORTAT: Befoe commencing any sevicing o component eplacement, ensue the ELECTRICAL SUPPL to the unit is ISOLATED. Cleaning of the extact and supply s and heat exchange is equied annually.filtes on the cooke canopy o kitchen extact may equie cleaning moe fequently. Clean in accodance with thei elevant instuctions. 6. HEAT EXCHAGER REMOVAL AD SERVICIG: 6.. Remove the font deco panel. Release the 6 scews secuing the sealing cove, swing the electical cove panel fowad and emove the sealing cove, taking cae to avoid damage to the gasket. 6..2 Release the heat exchange y withdawing the wedge at the ottom of the heat exchange, and emove the heat exchange fom the unit, taking cae to avoid damaging the heat exchange ai passages. 6.. Check that all the ai passages ae fee fom ostuction. If not, clean y washing in a soapy solution, o with a light ush. ote: Unde no cicumstance must any shap implement, that is likely to distot o punctue the ai passage walls, e used. 6.. Refitment o eplacement is in evese ode. Ensue that the etaining wedge fimly secues the heat exchange. 6.2 FA ASSEMBL REMOVAL AD SERVICIG: 6.2. Refeing to section 6., emove the heat exchange. 6.2.2 Disconnect the wiing fom the electical panel to the, at the teminal lock. 6.2. Release the scews secuing the assemly to the heat exchange compatment, and withdaw the assemly. 6.2. Remove all dust etc. fom oth the impelle and the moto, taking cae not to distu the alance of the. 6.2.5 Refitment o eplacement is in evese ode. 6. TRASFORMER REMOVAL: 6.. Remove the font deco panel and electical cove panel. 6..2 Disconnect the tansfome conductos fom the electical panel teminal lock, noting thei positions. 6.. Release the 2 scews and washes secuing the tansfome to the electical compatment, and withdaw the tansfome. 6.. Refitment o eplacement is in evese ode. 6. SWITCH REPLACEMET: 6.. Remove the font deco panel and electical cove panel. 6..2 ote the position of the thee conductos to the switch fo econnection puposes, and disconnect the conductos fom the switch. 6.. Remove the switch y depessing the etaining spings at the top and ottom of the switch and withdaw the switch fom the electical cove panel. 6.. Replacement is in evese ode. 6.5 SSTEM MAITEACE: 6.5. Clean any in-line filte that may e fitted in accodance with the filte s instuctions. 6.5.2 Clean the kitchen extact gille filte (if fitted) y washing in a soap solution. 6.5. Clean the filte in the cooke canopy (if fitted) in accodance with the instuctions povided with the cooke canopy. 9
