we are storytellers At the core of any McKinley Burkart project is an immersive and authentic experience. This is essential to successful workplace design. We leave no stone unturned as we discover your brand and hone in on your core values. We then take this information and weave it into a physical space, resulting in a built environment that is inherently you. Our expertise from a variety brings a wealth of influence and inspiration from restaurant, residential, and hospitality design, all of which contribute to a layered and thoughtful office design. Our ultimate goal is to tell a story through a space that embodies your company, reflects your brand and maximizes employee happiness.

entuitive calgary 7,500 sf
the entuitive calgary office called for strength, simplicity, and edge. Entuitive, a group of energetic and innovative structural engineers, came to us looking to design a workspace that promoted the collaborative nature of their work and embodied their brand and corporate culture. Our goal was to create a space that was on-brand, but decidedly noncorporate, while communicating a smart sophistication to their clients. We used subtle cues to tie back to the essence of their business, by exposing the structure in the ceiling and incorporating accents of their corporate orange in unexpected places, such as the exposed pipes in the boardroom. We created dedicated break-out areas for easy collaboration. These areas have a distinctly residential feel in comparison to the industrial aesthetic carried through the rest of the space. A fresh approach to an established industry breathed new life into the firm and re-energized the team.

shaw court executive floors 40,000 sf
we harnessed the legacy of this strong family brand and gave them a space that promotes connecting with history and one other. Shaw Communications, one of Western Canada s major telecommunications and broadcasting corporations, selected McKinley Burkart to redesign the company s two executive floors in their Calgary headquarters. We believe that telling the story of a company serves to create community within corporations. We paid homage to the company s home town by showcasing their extensive Canadian art collection and highlighting the company legacy. A feature staircase, for example, incorporates tyndall stone salvaged from their original office that was damaged in a fire. The resulting concept includes meeting rooms dedicated to influential artists, each room with its own distinct character. Open spaces and corridors feel more akin to an art gallery than a corporate office, with vistas carefully framed and casual breakout areas strategically placed throughout the space. This paired with a colourful palette and layers of residential-vignettes creates a warm and welcoming feel throughout the building.
taking care of busi ness made for you The workplace should not only improve the way people work and think, but also be your brand personified. McKinley Burkart s approach to office design is characterized by the tailored deisgn for each individual company. Each space embodies the brand and the people who create it. We believe that the workspace can completly change the way buisness is done.
IHS Markit McKinley Burkart was approached by information technology giant, IHS, to design an office that reflects their business practice: developing cutting-edge information technology. We used the existing global brand as a springboard, focusing on their industry of information, analytics and the technology of the future. We then distilled these core values into a simple, easily scalable design centered around efficiency and communication. Within this practical approach, we drew inspiration from our restaurant expertise to layer additional types of experiences within the space. In doing this, we developed new design standards, such as the cafe-style staff kitchen, that are now being implemented on a global scale. mckinley burkart established a cross-market, global design standard for $2.7 billion software giant, ihs markit.

embracing the true principles of modernism, we emphasized simple form and inherent beauty for the perfect mix of business and pleasure. annapolis capital Annapolis Capital, a Calgary-based boutique investment firm, demonstrates a design that embraces the true principles of modernism: simplicity of form and celebration of the beauty of natural materials. We believe that good office design reflects corporate culture while still offering world-class design. Unlike a typical corporately branded office space, the Annapolis Capital offices feel like someone s private penthouse. This is due in part to the collection of residential furniture and original artworks procured by the owner and his wife. The space is a true reflection of the ownership group and their appreciation of art, classic furniture, and fine materials.
I loved working with McKinley Burkart they were accessible, reliable and responsive. The project was on time and budget and we get spectacular comments from anyone that sees the space. It is for sure a showcase. Jodi Roworth CFO, Annapolis

the building is the ultimate symbol of a company s strength and permanence. McKinley Burkart was approached in 2002 by M-Tech (now Hitachi) to design a head office for their growing internet security software company. The firm challenged us to redefine the office building typology to create a vibrant and inspiring work place for their staff. Our numerous accolades on the project - including the Prairie Design Award of Excellence tell us that we succeeded. Situated on a busy thoroughfare at the edge of downtown Calgary, the M-Tech building creates an image of quality, precision and technological competence through the organization of both communal spaces for discussion and exchange and personal spaces for focused thought and invention.

we envisioned the bank of the future. We designed a conversation around what banking means in today s digital world. In this time of advancing technology, many people are using the online banking exclusively, so we conceptualized the physical bank of the future. With traditional banking methods and physical branches quickly becoming obsolete, McKinley Burkart repurposed the branch for new uses. Conceptualizing the ATB branch to act as a small business incubator, we imagined a new model that would serve as a place where entrepreneurs and bank users could network, learn, and conduct business.

embassy bosa 2,500 sf For Embassy Bosa s Calgary office, we designed an office that suited their smart and forward-thinking attitude. We strengthened the brand for their satellite office in a booming city, giving them a memorable space for clients and staff alike and setting them up for success. In the following two years, Embassy Bosa merged with Bosa Development Corporation, and our familiarity with their brand and team were huge assets when we designed their Vancouver headquarters for the newly formed Bosa Development.
The head office of Embassy Bosa is the picture of laid-back cool. This contemporary office space is smart, artful, and handsome, a clean white space with a masculine vibe. Architectural details such as stunning custom millwork and screens denote pathways through the space while creating texture and rhythm, framing views of stunning artwork. This space promotes professionalism while maintaining a relaxed corporate culture. These office interiors are not your typical corporate space: they are confident yet approachable; trendy, yet relaxed, the epitome of style.
Our new office has played a huge part in the transformation of our corporate culture and has become a talking point for anyone who visits. I gave specific direction on how I wanted the office to feel and operate; McKinley Burkart took that and created a master piece of form, function and inspiration. We couldn t be happier! inspirational aspirational We believe that our offices allow people to work and think differently; it is a unique work environment that promotes creative thinking and collaborative work. Designed to be two things simultaneously, the space is both inspirational and aspirational. The inspirational side of our workplace is meant to encourage our staff to work as a team in a space that feels good everyday. The aspirational side of it is for our clients because it demonstrates how a space can change the people feel and work.
