Name of Project Environment Management Plan for East Kolkata Wetlands (EKWL) Year 2005-2006 Location West Bengal, India Client CEE-ICMA-USAID in association with DOE, GoWB Main Project Features East Kolkata Wetlands, spreads over nearly 12000 Ha, is one of the largest sewage fed wetlands in the world and now, a ramsar site. As a part of the EMP team, main responsibilities handled were, assessment of compatible landuses, land use zoning as per the ramsar framework as well development of DCR framework for the EKWL area. The department of Rural Development, Govt. of Gujarat has identified 12 villages around town Dahegam for implementation of pilot PURA scheme in the state.

The assessment included level of urbanisation & Ground water (taluka level), ULB wise situation of water, drainage & MSWM. planning vis a vis water shed management etc. The training also had component of field visits and case studies of water shed management projects and plans. Nodal Training Officer Activities Performed CPCB-HRDP involved activities towards strengthening the capacity of state pollution control boards and academic institutions in the field of GIS based Spatial Environmental Planning in India.
