MODEL NO. SFH460 SALTON FAN HEATER Thank you for purchasing our Salton Fan Heater, model SFH460. Each unit is manufactured to ensure safety and reliability. Before using for the unit for the first time, please read the instruction manual carefully and keep it for future reference. IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including the following: Before connecting and switching on the appliance, ensure that the voltage indicated on the units rating label corresponds to the mains voltage in your home. Read the instructions carefully, in conjunction with any illustrations, before using the appliance for the first time. Always ensure that the unit is connected to an earthed mains outlet. Do not connect the appliance to an extension cord or multiple plug outlets. If it is necessary to use an extension cord, ensure that the cord is rated not less than 15amps and can carry the current load generated by this appliance. Use only an approved extension lead as use of an unsuited extension cord may result in overheating and/or fire. Do not operate the appliance directly below a mains outlet. Do not leave your home while the appliance is in operation; ensure that the unit is switched off. Always unplug the appliance when not in use. Do not pull on the cord to unplug the unit. Ensure that the appliance is switched off and unplugged before cleaning and allow the appliance to cool down for at least 5 minutes before handling. Keep combustible materials (such as furniture, cushions, bedding, paper etc) at least 100cm away from the heater. Do not hang anything in front of or on the heater. Do not cover the unit or the power cord as this imposes the risk of overheating. This heater is intended for household use only. It is not designed for use as the main source of heating. Use the appliance only for its intended use, i.e. as an extra source of heating in the home/office. The manufacturer does not accept responsibility for any eventual damages or injury arising from misuse. To avoid the risk of fire and electrical shock, select a safe place for the heater. Do not insert any objects in to the heater. Ensure that children do not play with or operate the appliance. Elderly people and children should be supervised should they be in the vicinity of the appliance. 2

The front grille gets hot during usage. Do not touch the grille while the heater is switched on, nor immediately after switching off the heater since the grille requires time to cool down. Only handle the heater with dry hands. Do not expose the appliance to atmospheric conditions (e.g. rain, sun etc) Always ensure that the power cord is unwound properly to prevent overheating. If the cord of this appliance is damaged, discontinue use of the product and contact the manufacturer for further instructions. The cord must only be replaced by a service representative of the manufacturer, since special tools and/or parts are required. This heater is not intended for use in wet or moist locations such as bathrooms or laundry areas. Do not use the heater near bathtubs, showers, wash basins or swimming pools. Place at a minimum distance is 1m from any of these areas. If the heater becomes wet, unplug it from the mains socket before touching it as a wet heater may result in electrical shock even if turned off. PARTS DIAGRAM SAFETY POSITIONING The heater must not be located immediately beneath a socket outlet. For your own safety and that of others, do not use the heater in the immediate surroundings of a bath, shower or swimming pool. Ensure that the appliance cannot fall into water (bath wash basin, shower cubicle etc). Do not use the heater in rooms with explosive gas (e.g. petrol) or while using a flammable solvent or glue (e.g. when gluing or varnishing parquet floors, PVC etc). Allow ample space around the heater. A safe area to be left clear is 50cm at the top and at the sides, and 120cm at the front. To prevent the risk of fire, do not hang anything on, in front of or above the heater when it is switched on. 3

Do not allow aerosols, inflammable substances or materials sensitive to heat to be in the flow of hot air. Do not put the cable onto the appliance when it is still hot. This appliance is not intended for use outdoors. Do not use the heater on extremely deep-pile carpets! OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Remove the appliance from the outer packaging and ensure that the appliance is intact. Do not leave packaging materials such as bags and staples within reach of children or animals/pets. Set the heat on to a firm, level surface. With the power switch in the Off position and the thermostat set at Min, plug in the appliance. Ensure that the outlet has at-least a 10amp current carrying capacity. Turn the power switch and select: Fan only/1000w/2000w Turn the thermostat control and set it from SAFETY DEVICES This appliance is fitted with two safety devices: 1. The first safety device switches OFF the appliance when the radiator is tilted or when it is tipped over. This is achieved by means of a switch situated in the lower part of the radiator. 2. The second safety device switches OFF the appliance should it overheat. This is achieved by means of a built in thermo-fuse. If either of the above situations should occur: First ensure that it is not the thermostat that has switched off the heater. Turn the power to maximum. If the heater does not switch back on, the safety device has been activated. Unplug the heater at the mains socket. Allow the heater to cool down for 30 min. Check if the heater has been placed correctly (refer section 3- Safety Positioning). Ensure that nothing is obstructing the airflow. If necessary, clean the grilles with a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust build up or manufacturing dust. Replace the plug into the wall socket and switch the heater ON again. If the safety device again switches OFF the heater: Unplug the heater from the mains wall socket Have the heater inspected by an authorised service agent or by the supplier. 4
