Fully Adjustable Cycle and Vacuum Settings: Touch button controls allow you to easily adjust the cycle and vacuum levels until you find what works best for your body. Massage Mode: The Milk Genie features a massage mode to emulate the soft, fluttering movements that mimic the baby at the start of breastfeeding to stimulate letdown. Expression Mode: The Milk Genie s expression mode emulates the deep sucking rhythm that baby does after letdown occurs. 4

5 Programmable Memory: The Milk Genie allows you to save your favorite pumping program, making pumping as easy as possible. Timer: Never lose track of how long you have been pumping with the Milk Genie s integrated timer. Backlight: No need to fumble around in the dark to see your pump controls during those early morning pumping sessions; the Milk Genie s backlight emits enough light see in the dark. Battery: With 2.5 hours of battery life, you don t need to be tethered to the wall when pumping with the Milk Genie. Stylish, Portable Design: Weighing in at just 265 grams (.58 pounds) and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, your purse, or your pocket.

Important Safeguards HYGIENE The Milk Genie is a single user breast pump. It is not intended for multiple users. The Milk Genie breast pump is a closed system with the use of the backflow protector, preventing milk from entering the system tubing. Always follow the directions in this manual for cleaning and storage of your breast pump and parts. Failure to follow the guidelines provided or use of the Milk Genie with attachments not recommended by the manufacturer may pose a health risk and will void the warranty. PAIN OR DISCOMFORT You should not experience pain or discomfort when using your Milk Genie breast pump. Do not turn the suction level above your comfort level. Ensure that the breast shields are fitted correctly (see Breastshield Sizing on page 19). If you experience pain or discomfort, stop using the breast pump and seek help from your care provider, a certified lactation consultant, or the Pumpables team, as appropriate. GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES Close supervision is necessary when used near children. Use the product only for its intended use and with attachments recommended by the manufacturer. Handle the power cord, adapter and plug with care; do not leave on a heated surface, do not pull on or twist the power cord, do not wrap the cord around the adapter body. Do not use near standing water. 13

Do not use in the presence of concentrated oxygen or pressurized gases. Unplug and store out of reach of children when not in use. If you are pregnant, please consult your healthcare provider prior to using the Milk Genie. Pumping can cause contractions, and in extreme cases induce labor. If you are pregnant while nursing another child, please consult your healthcare provider prior to using this product. 14

Cleaning & Care Note: These guidelines are for use with a healthy, full-term baby and assume that you have access to potable water. If your baby is premature or has health challenges your care provider may supply alternative advice. If you live in an area without potable water, you should always sterilize parts before use. Always follow the advice of your care provider. You should sterilize all parts (other than the pump motor and tubing) before first use. Frequent sterilization can cause breast pump parts to wear down more quickly. Thorough washing with warm soapy water and air drying after each use is sufficient in most circumstances. You should sterilize breastmilk storage containers that will be used to store and freeze breast milk, such as bottles. Most milk storage bags come pre-sterilized - verify before using. WASHING BREAST PUMP PARTS 1. Wash your hands. 2. Disassemble all parts and wash in warm, soapy water and then rinse thoroughly in hot water. The top rack of the dishwasher is fine for all parts except the valve and backflow protector membrane. You may wish to soak the parts in warm soapy water for several minutes prior to washing, as well. 3. Use a bottle brush to ensure that there is no milk residue anywhere in the parts. Try to be careful with the membranes and valves, as they are the most fragile part of the kit. 4. Do not wash the valves or membranes in the dishwasher. Flush the valve with hot soapy water and carefully remove any milk residue with a bottle brush. 5. Place parts on a clean dish drying rack or clean power towel to air dry after washing. Do not use cloth to dry your breast pump parts 15

as it may harbor bacteria that can contaminate breast milk. Try not to touch the inside of any parts that will encounter breast milk. 6. Once dry, store parts in a clean, closed container (i.e. snaplock bag or clean plastic tub with a lid). 7. Never immerse your pump motor in water. Wipe clean with a damp cloth as needed. 8. Never wash or sterilize the tubing. When used correctly, the backflow protector stops milk from entering the tubing. If milk should somehow enter the tubing, Pumpables recommends replacing the tubing. If tubing should become wet, make sure it is completely dry before pumping as not to damage the motor. 9. The backflow protector does not need to be washed after each use. If you notice moisture in the backflow protector, disassemble and wash each of the three parts separately. Allow to air dry before reassembly. Cleaning & Care Tips If pumping multiple times per day, you can save time by storing the kit in a clean, closed container (i.e. snaplock bag or clean plastic tub with a lid) in the refrigerator until the next use. Once a day, wash the equipment thoroughly with warm soapy water and rinse it well with hot water. STERILIZING BREAST PUMP PARTS You can use any method you like to sterilize the parts of your Milk Genie. Please remember that you do not need to sterilize the tubing or pump motor. In most cases, you do not need to sterilize after every use of your breast pump; over-sterilizing will cause your pump parts to wear and require replacement more quickly. Your care provider may have given you alternative sterilization instructions if your baby was born prematurely or has an illness: always adhere to your care provider s instructions. You do need to sterilize all parts (except tubing and pump motor) before first use. Please be aware that there is no method of sterilizing at home 16

which can ensure that milk collection kits are safe for use by multiple users. The Milk Genie is a single-user pump. Choose from any of the following instructions to sterilize pump parts: Boiling 17 1. Place all the equipment in a large sauce pan and cover with tap water. 2. Check that there are no air bubbles inside bottles or other parts. 3. Place the lid on the saucepan and bring to a boil. 4. Boil for 5 minutes, making sure that the pot doesn t boil dry and melt the equipment. 5. Turn off the heat and allow to cool. 6. Remove parts with tongs and air dry on a clean dish rack or clean paper towel. Chemical Solutions (i.e. Milton ) Follow the directions to make up the chemical solutions. Always follow the manufacturer s directions if they differ from the information below. 1. Make up a fresh solution every day. 2. Make up the solution in a large, clean plastic container. 3. Separate the equipment and place into the chemical solution, squeezing the solution through the teats to make sure they are not blocked. 4. Check that there are no air bubbles inside the bottles. 5. Completely cover the equipment in the chemical solution. If they float to the top, place something heavy (like a plate) over them. 6. Don t put anything metal (knives, spoons) in the chemical solution. 7. Remove and rinse off in cool water. Air dry on a clean dish rack or clean paper towel. Steam Sterilizer Follow the manufacturer's directions.

Sterilization Tips Tip: Frequent microwave sterilizing of breast pump parts and bottles may cause discoloration. This does not affect usability or safety of the parts. 18

Breastshield Sizing To ensure you pump with maximum efficiency and comfort, the Milk Genie comes with 3 different sized breastshields - 21mm, 24mm, and 27mm - to help you get the best fit. Follow the breastshield sizing guide below to determine your recommended size. After pumping in expression mode for 5 minutes, you will notice your nipple will swell. Measure the diameter of the nipple at the base, excluding areola. Select a breastshield that is 2-3mm wider than the nipple diameter. If you experience discomfort, try a different size. Your shield should be the ideal fit if no/very little areola is being drawn into the flange, there is no discomfort, and there is adequate milk being expressed. 19

Note: The above image is intended for guideline purposes only and by no means is representative of all women. Breastshield sizing is trial and error and a good fit may look different for every woman. SIGNS YOUR BREASTSHIELD IS TOO SMALL Painful rubbing of nipple in flange. Nipple not moving freely inside of flange. Redness of the nipple. Whiteness of the nipple and/or a white ring around the base of the nipple. Little milk is being expressed. General discomfort while pumping. SIGNS YOUR BREASTSHIELD IS TOO LARGE Excess areola is drawn into the flange (a small amount of areola may enter the flange for some women; however, it should never be uncomfortable or painful). Sensation of pulling and/or pulling pain. Nipple is pulled to the end of the flange. Shield falls from the breast while pumping. Little milk is being expressed. General discomfort while pumping. FOR YOUR INFORMATION Although the above instructions provide a good indication of the size of breastshield you will need, there are few things to consider: Pumping while pregnant: consult with your care provider first if you are pregnant. Every woman s body responds differently to pumping. It is possible your measurements before pumping might change during pumping, therefore we suggest taking measurements of the swollen nipple 5 minutes after pumping. 20

Your measurements might be different throughout the day. For example, you might be fuller in the morning after going a few hours without pumping and/or feeding at night, warranting a larger size. You might also be smaller in the evening after consistent pumping or feeding throughout the day. You might be larger at the beginning of a pumping session, and smaller after some milk has been expressed. Your measurements might change after your milk supply is wellestablished (about 10 weeks postpartum). One breast may perform better with a different sized breastshield than the other. This is why Pumpables includes three sizes of breastshields with the Milk Genie; so it s less likely you ll have to worry about finding the perfect size, and more likely you ll start your pumping journey without a hitch! PUMPABLES FITTING ROOM Think you need a larger or smaller size? Head over to the Pumpables Fitting Room for a free shield size consultation: pumpables.co/fittingroom Pumping should not be painful. If you are experiencing friction, pain, or discomfort while pumping, contact us or a certified lactation consultant for help. hello@pumpables.co 21

Assembling the Milk Genie Before using your Milk Genie for the first time, you will need to sterilize all parts, except for the pump motor and tubing (sterilizing the pump motor and tubing can cause irreparable damage). For more information on sterilizing and washing the parts that come with your Milk Genie, please refer to the Cleaning & Care section of this manual (page 15). ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS ❼ ❻ ❹ ❷ ❺ ❶ ❸ 22

1. Attach the silicone duck valve to the underside of the connector. 2. Attach the breastshield to the connector. For more information on selecting the correct breastshield, refer to the Breastshield Sizing section of this manual (page 19). 3. Screw the milk collection bottle into the connector. 4. Assemble the backflow protector by inserting the membrane into the base, then inserting the top into the base and turning clockwise to secure. 5. Fit the backflow protector into the connector. Use a screwing motion to attach and remove this part to avoid damaging it. 6. Insert the tubing connectors into each end of the tubing as shown below. 7. Connect the tubing to the backflow protector. 8. Connect the tubing to the Milk Genie. For double-pumping, remove the cap on the airport (see below, left). For single-pumping, make sure this cap remains in place (see below, right). 9. Insert power adapter, if necessary. 23

POWER ADAPTER The power adapter comes with interchangeable parts for localization to your region and for travel (US, AU, UK, EU and Asia). Connect the power charger and the appropriate adapter by sliding the adapter down into the charger (see below). You will hear a loud click once they are fully assembled. To remove the adapter, press down on the button labeled Push and slide it back up and out. Note: The power adapter is for internal use only. The adapter is FDA compliant and adheres to US and Canadian component requirements. 24

Preparing to Pump Prior to pumping, make sure your pumping kit has been sterilized. Refer to the Sterilizing Breast Pump Parts section of this manual (page 16) for information on proper sterilization of parts. Wash your hands thoroughly in warm soapy water prior to handling parts that encounter the breast or breast milk. Inspect parts for damage. Do not use parts if they are damaged. Do not use silicone parts such as membranes or duck valves if they are torn. Replacements are available on the Pumpables website (pumpables.co); contact us if you need assistance. hello@pumpables.co 25

Operating the Milk Genie The Milk Genie is designed to operate as either a single-pump or doublepump. The pump can be operated either on battery power, or while plugged in. The Milk Genie comes with an integrated timer so you can easily track how long you have been pumping. After 30 minutes of operation, the Milk Genie will automatically turn off. This safeguards against depletion of battery life should the unit be left on. When the Milk Genie is powered on, it automatically starts at the vacuum intensity and mode you most recently used. The Milk Genie has integrated Memory in which you can store your favorite pumping program. BUTTONS The following buttons control the functions of the Milk Genie. FUNCTIONS AND CONTROLS 29

MASSAGE MODE & EXPRESSION MODE The Milk Genie comes has Massage Mode and Expression Mode to best mimic the sensation of your baby s suckling. The Massage Mode is a fast method of pumping designed to initiate your letdown, the start of milk flow. Expression Mode mimics the slow, deep suckling of your baby once the milk has begun flowing. Instructions for use: 1. Press the power button to turn on your Pumpables Milk Genie. 2. Press the Mode button to switch to Massage Mode. The screen will display the icon. 3. Once your milk is flowing, press the Mode button again to enter the Expression Mode. In Expression Mode, the screen will display the icon. 4. You may find good results switching between Massage Mode and Expression Mode multiple times throughout the pumping session. 30

VACUUM & CYCLE SPEED The Milk Genie s vacuum intensity and cycle speeds are codependent. You will notice that as you increase the vacuum level, the cycle speed will lengthen. This mimics how your baby nurses. Some women find that faster cycle speeds work better, and subsequently find that using Massage Mode rather than Expression Mode in conjunction with different vacuum speeds achieves the best results. We recommend trial and error to find your best program. Instructions for adjusting vacuum intensity: 1. Adjust the vacuum intensity by pressing the and buttons between levels 1 and 10. Start off with the vacuum on low, and then gradually increase the vacuum setting to your comfort level. 2. To achieve best results, we recommend trying to pump with the vacuum set to your maximum comfort level. You may try switching between your maximum comfort level and a lower intensity to stimulate more milk let down as well. Do not pump above your comfort level as that may cause injury. 3. Since the Milk Genie automatically starts back up where you left off, we recommend slowly decreasing vacuum intensity at the end of your pumping session (this eliminates any surprises when you go to pump the next time). ADJUSTING THE CYCLE SPEED The cycle speed of the Milk Genie can be adjusted between three different ranges while in expression mode. Simply hold down the button for 1 second to increase the cycle speed - you ll see display for a few seconds. Press the button again to get to, which is the fastest range. To decrease cycle speed, hold down the you ll see displayed; repeat, and you ll see. button for 1 second; The Milk Genie defaults, which is the slowest range. The Milk Genie will remember your cycle setting for each vacuum level. For example, if you use 31

in Vacuum 4, and then you change to Vacuum 5, if you change back to Vacuum 4, it will still be in The available cycle speeds decrease as vacuum level increases within each range. Refer to the Performance Characteristics (pg. 42) chart for a detailed CPM overview. MEMORY MODE The Milk Genie has an integrated Memory feature to make pumping easier by storing your favorite pumping program. To utilize the Memory feature, follow these instructions: 1. Press the Power button for 2 seconds to activate the Memory function. The pump will start adding the pump program you choose to memorize. 2. When activated, the Memory icon will flashes. 3. Adjust the settings during your pumping session as best suits you. 4. Press the Power button for another 2 seconds to stop recording. 5. When your program is stored, the Memory icon will always be displayed. 6. To use your stored pumping program, press the button (the same button you press to decrease vacuum intensity) for 2 seconds. 7. Press the Mode button for 2 seconds to delete the stored pump program. 8. When there is no stored program, or you delete your stored program, there will be no icon displayed. 32

BATTERY LIFE The Milk Genie has up to 3 hours of battery life, enabling you to pump on the go. The Milk Genie performs best when the battery is fully charged. You may experience a decrease in vacuum intensity as the battery is near depleted; this means it s time to plug in your Milk Genie to a power outlet. The Milk Genie takes approximately 2.5 hours to charge. To prolong battery health, we recommend reaching a full charge prior to unplugging the Milk Genie. You can pump while the Milk Genie is charging. Fully Charged 75% 50% 25% 5% Empty (flashing) When the Milk Genie needs to be charged, the battery icon will flash. The screen will also display Lo bt when fully discharged. When charging, the icon will display. 33

Breastmilk Storage This chart describes how and where to safely store your expressed breast milk, based from recommendations outlined by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Thawing Frozen Milk Here are three ways to thaw frozen breast milk safely. If your caregiver has given you alternative instructions, always adhere to those. Move the bottle or bag to the back of the refrigerator 24 hours prior to feeding. Hold the bottle or bag under warm running water until the milk is thawed and reaches room temperature. Place the bottle or bag in a bowl of very warm water and gently move it around in the bowl until thawed, refreshing the warm water as it cools. Note: Breastmilk is still considered frozen if it contains any amount of ice particulates. Feeding Breast Milk We recommend waiting until breastfeeding is well established prior to feeding your baby expressed breastmilk. Always follow the advice of your care provider. WARMING MILK Some babies prefer warm milk. To warm the milk, set bottle in a mug of hot tap water for several minutes. Gently shake the bottle periodically. Test the temperature on the inside of your wrist prior to feeding it to your baby. Do not heat milk in a microwave. Microwaving can cause severe burns from hot spots that develop in the milk during the heating process. Do not heat in boiling water or water that is too hot to touch. 36

Do not reheat milk above body temperature as it can negatively impact the nutritional components of the milk. Do not reheat milk in a bottle warmer as it can negatively impact the nutritional components of the milk. Bottle warmers are typically designed for formula, which is not as susceptible to heat damage. SAFELY BOTTLE-FEED To ensure safe use of your breastmilk bottles, adhere to the following guidelines: Always inspect the bottle, nipple and other feeding accessories for defects prior to feeding your baby. If the nipple appears cracked or torn, discontinue use and discard immediately. Always supervise infants when bottle feeding. Periodically test the nipple by tugging on it to prevent potential choking hazards. Do not modify the nipple or bottle components. Do not use nipple or bottle components for anything other than their intended purpose, i.e. as for pacifiers, teething surfaces, or toys. 37
