Mónica Santos Studio BRAND PROFILE Monica Santos Homeware is a Product Design studio in Porto, Portugal. Time and happiness are key here, and each object is seen as a moment in life, one to be experienced. Founded in 2015, fruit of the passion and know-how of the Creative Director and Product Designer Monica Braga dos Santos, it specializes in the research and development of creative projects in the areas of tabletop, decorative accessories and upholstery furniture. Firm in the belief that a product only comes to existence when a relationship with its user is established, at Monica Santos Homeware Studio work stems from a comprehensive analysis of history, heritage and culture, thus creating a path to explore new ways of interacting with everyday objects. More than attributing objects a functional significance, there is a focus on developing the social potential of products that generate positive emotions. Combining traditional with contemporary concepts and manual with industrial production, the creative process at the studio entails a strong practical component and frequent visits to factories and crafts workshops, thus promoting contact with new technologies and raw materials. Known for being an old soul with a taste for contemporary, Monica Braga dos Santos is a Creative Director and Product Designer from Porto, Portugal. Inspired by History and its expression in arts & culture, by the simplicity and timelessness of Mid-Century Modern style and by the Japanese sensitivity to things, she creates delicate, authentic and sensorial designs, which have a life beyond their functional character. Monica believes objects now, more than ever, must generate emotions while promoting experiences. The way she sees it, each object represents a moment in time. This is why all her projects stem from a thorough, critical research and analysis of the history, social evolution and potential of each product typology, so that they can adapt to new social, cultural and contemporary experiences. Since graduating in 2000 from ESAD College of Art and Design in Matosinhos, Portugal, Monica has developed homeware products for luxury and retail brands such as Munna, Vista Alegre and Zara Home. Besides her extensive network and expert knowledge of the international market, she has developed deep, hands-on understanding of all the phases product development entails and a strong practical background in project management, from planning to implementation. In 2015, driven by the motivation to contribute to the promotion of the Portuguese design and its Industry, she founded her own Monica Santos Homeware Studio. While still providing services for other brands, Serendipity was her homonimous brand s first and awarded tableware collection.
