Kettal Cala by Doshi Levien In 2016, the Cala chair established a new design language for Kettal that combines large natural curves with a latticed rope weave creating a majestic spatial presence with transparent and light surfaces. The idea evolved and Doshi Levien created additional pieces to make a collection including a dining chair, a series of tables and low foot stools. The Dining table has a monolithic and bold presence, providing contrast to the lightness of the chairs. Set in to the table frame are different tops including wood and marble. The same frame construction can be recognised in the low tables and foot stools, that complete the Cala family. 4

Kettal Bela ropes by Doshi Levien Following the introduction of a new textile design and metal coating colours for Kettal in 2016, Doshi Levien were asked to design the ropes that are a quintessential ingredient of many Kettal products, first introduced in the Landscape collection in 2009. Bela ropes was inspired by a fabric with a twill weave structure. Wrapping this fabric around an existing rope immediately revealed the direction for the new Kettal ropes. Taking the lead from the Terrain fabrics, the ropes play on the tonal differences between colours. The challenge was to use the elegant thin lines of the twill as a way to mix colour; from a distance the ropes look visually rich and textural and on closer inspection we discover it is provided by the twill pattern. The name Bela, which in Hindi is a flowering creeper, describes the lively colourful expression of this reinvented rope material of which there are now 18 different colours to combine with the Kettal palette of materials. 14

Kettal Parallel fabric by Doshi Levien The concept for Parallel fabric design originated by looking closely at the structure of the fabric. Considering this new fabric was to be used as screens for Pavilions, Doshi Levien created a weave that would allow light to pass through and cast a pleasing check shadow pattern. The same fabric is also applied in tension as a cushion support for the Kettal furniture. Doshi Levien used a combination of two colours to create visual texture and align the fabric more closely to the Kettal colour way. 18

Kettal Geometrics Rugs by Doshi Levien Diagonal lines and geometric shapes feature in the Geometrics fabric collection designed by Doshi Levien for Kettal. As a development of this abstract theme, Doshi Levien created a series of rugs that explore the interplay of different geometries. In the first design, lines are laid over solid colours to make a spatial and layered effect, while in the second design, tiny rectangles or blocks of colour are spaced apart and repeated to create a fine mélange. The two different rug designs, Block and Line, share the same weave technique in common which means they lie well in combinations. The sizes available are 2 by 3 metres and 3 by 4 metres. 24

Kettal Mia outdoor lamp by Michel Charlot Mia is a family of nomadic lamps designed and engineered for the Spanish outdoor furniture company Kettal. The lamp is built around an acid-treated glass diffuser which is protected by a large polypropylene lampshade. Both are held in place by a clever wire structure. One of Kettal wishes was to have the lamps completely waterproof, which was achieved allowing for a wide range of applications and making it suitable for outdoor use. The Mia series comprises multiple variations, including a small battery powered lamp. 32

Kettal Bitta by Rodolfo Dordoni Kettal Bitta is a warm, comfortable collection which features a combination of aluminium frames with braided polyester cords. The new extendable table is available with a teak, marble or aluminium top. My aim was to create dense braiding that would still let the air through, reminiscent of the braiding of the ropes used to moor boats (hence the name Bitta, which means mooring in Italian), which makes the pieces look lightweight but, at the same time, they look just like cosy nests in natural colours to sit back and relax in.
