Bill Young (NIST) will be added to the list of attendees in Fort Lauderdale on the online Meeting Minutes. 4. Staff Liaison Dave Trebisacci provided the NFPA report. An overview of NFPA rules and regulations was presented, the new Public Input process was demonstrated, a timeline for submittal of task group reports was discussed, and a proposed timeline for the development of the new LMR standard was provided. 2

5. In his Chairman s remarks, Bob Athanas noted an increase in committee membership, and welcomed the participation of all members and guests. The chairman reported on a number of topics that the Correlating Committee was addressing. Two task groups have been formed, one to develop Public Comments to NFPA1952 and NFPA 1953, and one to review the project s protective clothing and equipment documents with respect to possible consolidation, structure and cycle changes. The Supplemental Operating Procedures for Test Method Validation are also continuing to progress towards approval by the NFPA Standards Council. The Chair also updated the TC on the recent TIAs to NFPA 1981 and NFPA 1982. 6. Chairman Athanas solicited input on the possibility of devices and technology that may fall under this committee that may be used as a potential detonation mechanism for secondary explosive devices. He appointed the following task group to look into this: Task Group on Risk vs. Reward of the Use of Technology Gordon Sletmoe - Chair Jack Jarboe John Facella Kate Remley Matthew Shannon Ken Link Kamil Agi Bill Young Mike Hussey The purpose is to look at where we are and where we are headed and to determine if this is even an issue. The TG is to look at additional groups or resources that may have already worked on these issues (public, commercial, military), and look at UK experience and planning; there is a lot out there. 7. Peter Reed provided an overview of the First Net project. NFPA 1802 LMR Task Group reports were provided as follows (see following pages for task group member list): Kate Remley RF PASS update on test methods for next revision of NFPA 1982 Steve Townsend Intrinsic safety Mike McKenna Physical properties Mike Feeley Environmental testing Mike Gomez Feature set Bruce Varner Investigating new device compatibility 3

8. In an effort to provide a foundation for the standard and to better understand where the LMR industry is at with regard to testing and standards and their commonalities, Chairman Athanas asked that a task group be formed to include all the radio manufacturers to determine: 1. What testing is done 2. To what standard 3. Who does the testing 4. Who certifies the results This TG is to report its findings and recommendations to the committee. TG on Commonalities Between Radio Manufacturers Jose Velo Chair Mike McKenna Representatives from ALL radio manufacturers 9. Dan Rossos, Chairman of the Technical Committee on Respiratory Protection Equipment, updated the committee on the NFPA 1981 TIA and the continued coordination between the two committees with respect to interoperability. 10. The next meeting of the technical committee was scheduled for December 10-12, 2013. Probable location is San Diego. 11. The meeting was adjourned on Wednesday, August 7 at 5:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, David Trebisacci NFPA Staff Liaison 4
