Air Handling Units 39FD, FX 220-7100 Quality Management System Approval 39FD, FX 280 l/s to 27000 l/s The comprehensive range of Carrier 39F air handling units is the result of detailed research in the areas of thermal technology, aerodynamics and acoustics. The wide range of 23 models offers air flows from 280 l/s to 27000 l/s. Flexible modular construction The unique modular unit design enables Carrier to offer the right technical solution for any application, using minimum floor space. The units can be delivered in sections for indoor or outdoor installation, completely assembled, partially assembled or knocked-down for on-site assembly. Technical on-site assistance from Carrier is available, if required. Solid construction With their profiled frames and vertical reinforcements the Carrier series 39FD, FX air handling units are extremely rigid, and suitable for high-pressure applications with increased air flow. Thermal and acoustic insulation in two thicknesses: 25 mm for model 39FD 50 mm for model 39FX. Simple connection The supply duct is directly connected to the air handling unit, without transition piece. Aesthetics The standard construction features profiled galvanised steel frames, and the panels are painted on the outside. Easy maintenance The standardised components are interchangeable. Access to these components is facilitated by easily removable panels and access doors. Optimum product design Carrier, world leader in air conditioning, has a research, production and laboratory test facility that enables Carrier to propose the best technical/quality/price compromise. The technical selection is optimised by the Flex-Air software. Conformity Conformity with applicable European environment and safety standards, and with the European performance standards. 1

Identification The 39FD, FX line of Carrier air handling units is based on a modular principle. The number of modules respectively in height and in width determines the cross-section available for air flow and encodes the unit size. The unit length is determined by the number and size of the component parts required. The service side (connections and access) is defined as right hand or left hand in the direction of the air flow. 39 F D 4 5 0 Carrier air handling unit Unit serial number Model F 0 = cooling coil (2) in the unit 4 = cooling coil (2) with external header D = insulation thickness 25 mm or X = insulation thickness 50 mm Width in modules M Height in modules M Module M = 315 mm n = number of modules P = 25 mm for FD P = 50 mm for FX Examples of nominal dimensions (without damper, without pipes): 39FD 450 - length 12 modules: L = 3830 mm; l = 1625 mm and H = 1310 mm 39FD 454 - length 12 modules: L = 3830 mm; l 0 = 1625 mm and l 4 = l 0 + 195 mm Note: For an installation with external header, the section to the right of the manifold is 155 mm longer, if the air handling unit has a length of l 0 4 modules, and 195 mm longer for l 0 > 4 modules. 4

Each row of channels is arranged perpendicular to the preceding channel, and the fresh air flow and return air flow cross across the heat exchanger. Standards compliance EUROVENT 10/1 ENV 308 Efficiency of 40 to 55% No electrical connection Air flow completely separate Low investment Low maintenance Diagram Construction The heat exchanger consists of aluminium plate assemblies, installed diagonally in the casing. Silicone seals assure complete air tightness. The lower part of the casing forms a water-tight pan to recover possible condensate. Freeze-up Direct intake of fresh air into the unit might cause freezing of the heat exchanger. The critical temperature at which freezing might occur depends on the temperature and the relative humidity of the return air, as well as on the proportion of outside air to return air. The freeze-up zone must not be exceeded. Freezing can be prevented by increasing the fresh air temperature, either with preheat or by recycling a part of the return air or by bypassing a part of the outside air. L = length in modules, directly linked to the size of the heat recovery coil used. Three models are offered ES: Standard efficiency EH: High efficiency EP: With air bypass 10

Rotary recovery systems The rotary heat recovery coil consists of several circular layers of wavy plates. The flows created are parallel to the air flow. Standards compliance EUROVENT 10/1 Construction The thermal inertia plate layers form a wheel. This wheel is driven by a geared motor. The rotation speed is determined by the temperature conditions and the required capacity.
