Preamble: Wastu and Critical Thinking Wastu (Vastu) = Form giving in its totality Landscape architecture is the forming of ambience for human living in equilibrium with the natural world Critical thinking involves determining the meaning and significance of what is observed or expressed, determining whether there is adequate justification to accept the conclusion as true. Critical thinking employs not only logic but broad intellectual criteria: clarity, credibility, accuracy, relevance, depth, breadth, significance and fairness.
Simpler = more sustainable
Exercise 1 What do you see in this photo of a man-hole cover? Is the message clear? Is it fair to place these gigantic sculptures in an urban open space?
Exercise 2 Is the tall doll appropriate to this passageway? Is it attractive enough to draw peoples attentions? Is the state of the urban features in this photo chaotic or orderly?
Exercise 3 What message does John Pollack try to deliver in this painting? Why this advertisement is presented in this size in an atrium of a train station at Nagoya?
