7 COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN DESIGNING YOUR KITCHEN 01 POOR DESIGN At Kich our priority is always functionality. While there is no ideal kitchen shape as every home is dif ferent, it s important to plan out the fridge, sink and cook top in a triangle with no more than 2 metres between each for maximum functionality. 02 NO STORAGE So many companies design you a kitchen that looks pretty but doesn t have the appliance storage you require. Poor storage often leads to devices being stored on bench tops and redesigns down the track. 03 NOT ENOUGH LIGHTING Unlike most rooms in the house, you don t want the light in a kitchen to only come from above where you will cause a shadow. In a kitchen, you are better of f having a light fall in front of you. Down lights above bench tops, hanging lighting and led light under cabinetry are all great options. DID YOU KNOW? We come to you to help understand what you are aiming to achieve with your beautiful new kitchen. 4 www.kich.com.au
04 MONEY SPENT POORLY When creating a kitchen, the stove is your statement piece. It is the most commonly used item and is always prominently on display. The best designers agree, if you were only to replace one item make, it the stove. It will make cooking more pleasurable and add the most value to your kitchen. 05 CRAMPED FOOD PANTRY Storage is everything in today s kitchen. With the ever growing supply of vitamins, supplements, condiments and other products it s important to plan your pantry s so that you can find things quickly and easily. Did you know that by removing shelves and adding stainless steel pull-outs you can increase storage by 30%? 06 HIGH OR LOW BENCHES Avoid back ache and ensure your counter height is optimised for you. If you don t, your body will quickly let you know about your mistake. The standard bench height is 900 to 950 millimeters. 07 INSUFFICIENT PLANNING If you re the social type or enjoy working in the kitchen, it will be imperative to ensure things like the island bench have enough clearance for your knees. We recommend an inset of 400 millimeters. Also, take into account each person will need about 600mm along the bench to sit comfortably. www.kich.com.au 5
KICH KITCHEN DESIGN TIPS. OPEN LAYOUTS ARE HERE TO STAY! 01 These days we re all about informal dining, so open layouts are here to stay. Open kitchens encourage interaction and entertainment with their breezy blend of living spaces and allow lots of space for cooking for large groups of people if necessary. LIGHT UP THE LED! Thanks to ever-evolving technology, LED lighting has lost its cold and unfriendly look. Use LEDs to brighten up an island or space underneath cabinets. The new-age lights are more ef ficient and longer-lasting than halogen and fluorescent bulbs too. 02 INTEGRATED APPLIANCES Sick of appliances sticking out like a sore thumb? Try integrating them into your kitchen with clever panelling and built-ins. Another great trick is to install power points in your pantries to make powering your devices easy and look clean and tidy. 03 6 www.kich.com.au
DID YOU KNOW? Our NO PRESSURE kitchen designers have been handpicked for their customer service? IT S ALL IN THE SINK 04 When it comes to sinks, you should always consider function. While more expensive initially, high-end, deeper and larger models contain splashes while simultaneously accommodating large pots and pans or other items that require handwashing. PLAN YOUR ISLAND 05 Island bench tops are the ultimate addition for many kitchens. They add space and versatility. For a kitchen island to be ef fective it requires a minimum of one metre clearance from all other items. www.kich.com.au 7
