The supervisory and management staff attended the WCIA sponsored Legally Sufficient Discipline and Discharge training on Tuesday, March 15 th at Headquarters Station 31. This is the third and final session of the professional development series regarding human resources practices. Those who did not attend this session will attend the repeat session on Tuesday, March 22 nd. On Wednesday, March 16 th, Chief Laatsch attended the monthly King County Fire Chief s Associations monthly meeting. The management team attended the annual ACAP fundraising breakfast on Friday, March 18 th at Grace Community Church in. This Week: Administrator Robertson will attend the monthly Area Chamber of Commerce membership meeting on Monday, March 21 st at Emerald Downs. On Tuesday, March 22 nd, Chief Laatsch will attend the monthly Zone-3 Operation s Chief s meeting. Senior Staff will hold their weekly meeting on Tuesday, March 22 nd at Headquarters Station 31.
On Thursday, March 24 th, Chief Laatsch will attend the King County Fire Chief s Association Executive board Meeting. The monthly Labor Management Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 24 th at Headquarters Station 31. IAFF Local 1352 will hold their annual banquet on Friday, March 25 th at the Dieringer Gym in Sumner. 911 Requests for Services / Customer Service: Aid Call: (Algona) On Monday, March 14 th at 8:00 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to an ill male at the Boeing facility. Firefighters arrived to find the patient short of breath and lightheaded. A private ambulance transported him to Regional Medical Center (ARMC) for further evaluation. Car Accident: (Lea Hill) On Tuesday, March 15 th at 11:54 a.m., firefighters responded to a three car accident on SE 312th Street. Two patients were transported to ARMC by private ambulance. CPR: () On Wednesday, March 16 th at 6:02 p.m., firefighters responded to a female vomiting. Firefighters found the patient unresponsive; King County Medics and firefighters honored the patient s written desire to not be resuscitated. Firefighters assisted family members in handling the family death. Aid Call: () On Thursday, March 17 th, at 3:13 p.m., firefighters along with King County Medics assisted a female having chest pain. It was determined that the patient was having muscular/skeletal pain. The patient was transported in stable condition to ARMC by firefighters. Aid Call: (Pacific) On Friday, March 18 th at 5:12 a.m., firefighters assisted a patient experiencing anxiety. The patient was transported to Madigan Army Medical Hospital by private ambulance. Sprinkler Activation: () On Saturday, March 19 th, at 8:17 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire alarm / sprinkler activation. Some residents at the Gentry Walk Apartments were cooking with hot oil and accidentally ignited the oil. They tried to extinguish the hot oil fire in the sink with water, which caused a violent reaction, spreading the fire across the ceiling. The heat tripped a sprinkler head. Firefighters found no extension into ceiling or other areas of the unit. Aid 31 was called to the scene for one of the residents who suffered a minor burn injury to the back of the hand. The scene was released to a complex maintenance person on location who had already lined up a water removal company.
CPR: () On Sunday, March 20 th, at 9:28 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to assist a patient with shortness of breath and chest pain. On arrival firefighters found the patient not responsive with intermittent gasping respirations. CPR was initiated on the patient and additional fire units and King County Medics were added to the response. The patient regained a pulse and was transported to ARMC by King County Medics in critical condition. Deputy Fire Marshal s Upton and Stewart attended International Building Code classes Means of Egress and Mixed Occupancies in Leavenworth sponsored by Washington Association of Building Officials. Public Education PIEO Staff conducted Public Education update meetings with A and B shifts. Topics covered included the bicycle safety citation program, bicycle helmet fitting, citizen fire escape planning, Fire Stoppers Intervention program and the new station tour outline. Station 32 crews installed two smoke alarms for senior residents in South. Work continued on planning a regional workshop on safely transporting pediatric patients in emergency vehicles. A partnership with the Central Region EMS and Trauma Council was formed to combine efforts to host a joint workshop to address several pediatric patient issues. Facebook, Twitter and Website posts were completed regarding several safety topics.
Station 32 and 34 personnel taught fire safety to kindergarten classes at Buena Vista and Arthur Jacobsen Elementary Schools, and scheduling continued for the first and third grade elementary school fire and life safety education program classroom visits. Fire Investigation: During this reporting period, the South King Fire Investigation Task Force (SKFITF) responded to one (1) call for service in the VFRA response area. Unattended cooking was the cause of a kitchen fire in a NE condominium unit. A fire sprinkler activated; thus controlling the fire until fire suppression personnel arrived. Fire damage was limited to the area around the range cook top. No other condominium units were involved. Planning and Logistics: P&L is now facilitating the process of scoring the new fire engine RFP responses. Warranty work continues on Fire Station 32 with vendor visits this week. The water heater in the Maintenance building was replaced due to age. The main boiler at Station 31 was recertified by Labor & Industries. An estimate to repair aging and rotting siding on Station 31 is being prepared for consideration. Warranty work continues on Ladder 31 with the truck going to Valley Freightliner for diagnosis and repair. The truck was out of service for a short time.
