Introduction Thank you for purchasing a Wahl Surface Plate Black Body Calibration Source. We appreciate your business. Wahl Black Body Calibration Sources are used to quickly and accurately calibrate and verify non- contact IR temperature instruments such as infrared thermometers, optical pyrometers, area- measuring thermometers, and thermal imaging cameras. Wahl Black Body Calibration Sources feature: v An intelligent, high precision processor temperature controller. v A radiating surface with special high- emissivity coating. v Available in 220V AC input only (- 2 model). v All controllers operate in C. Caution: v DO NOT touch the Black Body radiating surface! v DO NOT attempt to change the factory default settings. v This product must be properly grounded to prevent electric shock accidents or equipment damage due to improper grounding. v For accurate results, the temperature of the target area must fully stabilize before beginning calibration. v Calibration equipment should only be used by trained personnel. Unpacking you Blackbody Calibration Unit Unpack the Blackbody carefully and inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during shipment. If there is any damage, please notify the carrier immediately. Put the Blackbody on a steady workbench and DO NOT touch the target surface. Always carry the Blackbody in an upright position. DO NOT operate the Blackbody in excessively wet, oily, dusty, dirty, or chemical environments. DO NOT operate near flammable materials. Allow at least 50 cm of clearance around the blackbody. Remove fan dust cover for regular cleaning with a soft brush. Clean enclosure with neutral detergent. The Blackbody operates safely under the following conditions: Temperature stable environment with ambient temperature range 0 to 40 C (32 to 104 F). Ambient relative humidity: maximum 80%. Vibration in the calibration environment should be minimized. Indoor use only. Safety Information DO NOT use this Blackbody for any application other than calibration work. The Blackbody was designed for temperature calibration. Any other use of the Blackbody may cause unknown hazards to the user or equipment. This Blackbody is intended to operate at ambient temperature 0-40 C. DO NOT exceed this temperature by placing the Blackbody in an environmental chamber. This Blackbody must be plugged into a 220V AC /60HZ outlet. The power cord of the Blackbody is equipped with a three- pronged grounding plug for your protection against electrical shock hazards. It must be plugged directly into a properly grounded three- prong receptacle. DO NOT touch the IR target surface as it is a burn hazard. DO NOT change the values of the calibration constants from the factory set values. The correct setting of these parameters is important to the safety and proper operation of the calibrator. 3
DO NOT turn off the instrument at temperatures higher than 80 C, as this may create a hazardous situation. Select a set- point less that 80 C and allow the instrument to cool to below 80 C before turning off. Handle unit with care. Avoid knocking or dropping the unit. Always carry the Blackbody in an upright position. DO NOT disassemble the components under any circumstances. Operating Steps 1. Connect the Blackbody and the controller with the control cable. Connect the controller and a mains outlet of the proper voltage, frequency, and current capability with the power cable. Be sure it is a grounded outlet of 220V/10A. 2. Turn on the power switch (red Button) on the front of the controller. 3. The temperature controller displays the present temperature value (PV). 4. On the temperature controller panel (see Figure 4) the " ", and " " keys adjust the Set Value (SV). Set the desired temperature. The instrument will begin to operate normally and heat to the designated set point. Wait until the Process Value (PV) and the SV Value are stable and consistent before taking measurements. 5. Keep PV value and SV value stable and consistent, for the unit to work normally (see Table 1 for controller code definitions). 6. The fans do not work unless the PV is above 110 C, to ensure high uniformity at 100 C and below. 7. Do Not turn off the unit if the PV or SV value is higher than 80 C. Set the SV value to 0.0 until the temperature is lower than 80 C, before shutting down. Figure 8: Temperature controller panel scheme 6
