Research arm of First Nation dealing with land claims, environmental protection, and heritage conservation!! Walpole Island one of the first Native communities in Canada to take leadership role in the field of environment and sustainable development

Walpole Island Land Trust In 2008, we established the Walpole Island Land Trust to enhance our ability to conserve and protect ecologically significant habitats and species at risk within the Bkejwanong territory. The Walpole Island Land Trust was born out of the desire to make sure that our legacy to the future is something that we and they can be proud of. We want the children of the future to be able to say Wow! They were really thinking of us! Not, What were they thinking?! The Walpole Island Land Trust is the 1 st First Nations land trust incorporated and registered as a charity in Canada.

Our Niche HOLISTIC, COMMUNITY- BASED APPROACHES Holistic approaches that benefit humans & wildlife. Healthy Plants and Animals Restoration of Language and Culture Ecosystem Conservation and Recovery WALPOLE ISLAND ECOSYSTEM RECOVERY STRATEGY prepared by Dr. Jane M. Implementing Our Aims and Objects WALPOLE ISLAND LAND TRUST PROTECTING LANDS IN TRADITIONAL TERRITORY Our 1 st habitat protection campaign was to acquire and protect an ecologically significant prairie remnant Pottawatomi Prairie.

Our 1 st Protection Project Special Thanks to Suncor Energy Foundation and Imperial Oil Foundation and the generous private individual donors who helped save this piece of the natural heritage that we all share in common.
