More about our March 18 th Topic Emerald Ash Borer Millions of ash trees across Ontario have already been lost to the destructive pest, Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Last year, EAB was identified in some areas of Caledon. Untreated, infested trees will generally die in 2-3 years. Many people don t know if they have any ash trees in their neighbourhood or yard. The speaker will provide information about identifying ash trees and understanding what options are available. The goal of the meeting is to empower residents to take action in their own communities through treatment of existing healthy ash trees and planting of new trees. Speaker: Local Enhancement & Appreciation of Forests. L.E.A.F. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the protection and improvement of the urban forest. BDHS Budget for 2014 People join BDHS to learn more about gardening, and general meetings, where much of this learning takes place, are very important to our members. And so, since its inception, BDHS has organized meetings with educational speakers, the cost of which makes up a large part of the annual operating budget. Civic improvement projects are largely funded by directed donations and grants received for specific projects. BDHS has carried forward from its reserves $805 previously raised for planting projects to spend in 2014. Please help us save on costs by providing your email address for newsletters and other communication. The emailed version of the newsletter includes colour photos and active links to websites where you can get supplementary info about upcoming events, etc. The 2014 budget approved by the Board is as follows: INCOME 2014 2014 EXPENSES BUDGET BUDGET Donations to projects 33,250 Administration 300 Fund Raising, Plant Sale & Civic Improvement Planting 1000 Garden Tour Projects & Donor Recognition 33,650 Provincial Grant 1000 Meetings General, Board, AGM & Ontario Horticultural Association 300 Membership 800 OHA Fees & insurance 400 Awards 10 Program Rent & Speakers & Shows 1500 Interest 40 Publications (ads, newsletter, web) 450 From Reserves 805 Other 305 TOTAL $36,905 TOTAL $36,905 BDHS Board Contact List Email: bolton@gardenontario.org Chair Carol Good 905-880-2941 Vice-Chair Emma Ivancic 905-880-4828 Treasurer Kathy Mills 905 857 3098 Secretary & Membership Janet Manning 905-880-4692 Environmental Projects Richard Hunt 905-857-3228 Program Brenda Heenan 905-857-4741 Financial Reviewers Ron Clayton Lesley McCrimmon Photo (left to right): Richard Hunt, Brenda Heenan, Carol Good, Kathy Mills, Emma Ivancic, Janet Manning, Lesley McCrimmon, Ron Clayton Refreshment Committee volunteers wanted Did you enjoy the refreshment table at our meetings in 2013?
