Introduction Selecting the right rooflight for your project depends on a number of factors, including: The desired thermal efficiency level Method of fixing the rooflight to the roof The ventilation requirements The type and specification of the glazing This step-by-step guide will help steer you through the process. First, let s take a closer look at the basics of thermal efficiency and rooflight construction. Thermal Efficiency In most cases it is advisable to first select the level of thermal efficiency you want to achieve. This will indicate the optimal product range from our five options. Thermal efficiency is indicated by U-value, which is actually a measure of heat loss through a building element. So the lower the U-value the higher the thermal efficiency. The statutory compliance for non-domestic buildings varies dependant on region. Please refer to the Xtralite Thermal efficiency document for relevant building regulations for your region. U value Options X-One X-Two X-Three X-Four X-Five
Rooflight Construction Rooflight construction comprises three key elements: Fixing arrangement Ventilation Glazing So, once you have selected the desired range type from the Xtralite X-Series, you can specify each of the three construction elements, starting from the bottom up. Fixing Arrangement Ventilation Glazing Step 1 - Choose your X-Series range Choose the range type for your project, based on your thermal efficiency requirements. All models in the X-One to X-Four ranges will achieve compliance with Part L. X-One will deliver an impressive U-value of just 1.0W/m 2 K. U value Options X-One X-Two X-Three X-Four X-Five Step 2 - Select the Fixing Arrangement There are three aspects to consider in selecting the roof attachment: 1. The shape of the opening, which can be rectangular, square or circular 2. The method of attaching the rooflight to the roof. You can choose from 7 standard attachment (or foot) types, which are labeled A to G 3. The inclusion of an optional intruder grid for added security. Intruder grids are a specifiable, extra cost option on all Xtralite rooflights Use the table across to choose your fixing arrangement.
