If the flower vines are not cut, the tubers will double and they are perfectly adapted to our area. They will take full sun, good drainage. It is dormant until May and then produces green, strappy leaves until it blooms in August. The stalks are up to 5 feet (60") tall and the tall foxtail shaped blooms are incredible in flower arrangements as they turn and twist in creative ways. It needs good drainage and little or no summer water. Clay soil is unsuitable as are areas with standing water.
