EVACUATION PROCEDURES
FIRE / BOMB THREAT 1. Notify the Principal / Assistant Principal immediately, who will make a judgement as to whether to raise the alarm. 2. In the event that contact of the bomb threat is made by phone, the phone line is to be left open so Police may trace origin of call. 3. The P.A. System will be the means by which the alarm is raised. In the event of an electrical failure, loud hailers and hand bell will be used. 4. The SSSO will ring the Fire Brigade on 000 or 112 from any mobile phone. 5. The Assembly Point is the top oval away from all fire hydrants. If the top oval is an unsuitable place for the assembly point, the front concrete area will be used. ADMINISTRATION EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. In the event that contact of Bomb Threat is by phone, SSSO to phone police and leave the phone off the hook so call can be traced. Use other line to call police. 2. SSSO to ring Fire Brigade on 000 and advise location of fire and that evacuation of school is the top oval or front playground. 3. SSSO / Administration Staff to check all administration offices, storerooms, staff toilets and staffroom and close all doors and blinds. 4. Depending on where fire is situated, Administration Staff to close windows and doors. 5. Turn off electrical appliances eg., lights, fans etc. 6. SSSO / Administration Staff to collect Visitor s Sign on Register, Staff Sign on Book, mobile phone and class lists. 7. Assemble at the top oval. If this is an unsuitable assembly point, the front concrete area will be used. 8. An Ancillary Staff to wait at the staff driveway gate and also the back gate to direct the Fire Brigade / Police. 9. After an all clear SSSO / Administration Staff may return to the office. 10. The first class to reach both gates to the top oval will open the gates wide for easier access. 1
PROCEDURE FOR STAFF / VISITORS WHEN CLASS IS OUTSIDE If a fire alarm is raised while the children are in the care of the teacher outside the classroom, the children will proceed to the top oval. If the top oval is an unsuitable assembly point, the concrete area in front of the school will be used. After an all clear Staff / Visitors may return. PROCEDURE FOR CANTEEN HELPERS 1. Canteen Helpers are to leave the canteen quickly and assemble on the top oval. 2. Turn off electrical appliances eg. lights, fans etc 3. Close all shutters and doors 4. Exit via back door of the Canteen up onto top oval / front concrete area. 5. After an all clear Canteen Helpers may return to the Canteen. RESOURCE CENTRE EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. Children will leave the building under the supervision of the teacher via exit door. 2. Children will then proceed to the top oval. 3. Teacher or Library School Support Officer to check Library building including AV Room, Teacher s Resource Room, Computer Area, Reading Recovery Rooms and School Counsellor s Office. 4. Depending on where fire is situated the teacher or Library School Support Officer to close doors and windows. 5. After an all clear children and staff may return to the Library. KINDERGARTEN EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. Children will leave the building via their classroom doors, past Year 2 rooms, through the gates to the top oval. 2
YEAR 1 EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. Children will leave the building via their glass doors adjacent to the Shelter Shed, then through the gates to the top oval. YEAR 2 EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. Children will leave the building via their external classroom doors through the Shelter Shed then through the gates to the top oval. YEAR 3 EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. Children will leave the building via the Shelter Shed then through the gates to the top oval. 3
YEAR 4 EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. The children will leave the building via the demountable to the parish carpark to the top oval. YEAR 5 EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. Children will leave the building via their back doors into the Quiet Area via the Resource Centre leading to the parish carpark to the top oval. YEAR 6 EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. Children in Year 6 Red will leave their classroom via the Quiet Area into the parish carpark to the top oval. Year 6 Blue will leave their classroom via the concrete steps in front of their classroom through fire escape doors to the Kindergarten classrooms, through the shelter shed to the top oval. 4
HALL EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. Children will leave the building via fire exit doors facing Tongarra Road and proceed past Presbytery / Parish Meeting Room to top oval. 2. Teacher will close doors and windows. SSO (Library Mrs Robyn Warton) EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. To check hall, boys and girls infants toilets and inform anyone there to evacuate to the top oval. If the top oval is not a suitable evacuation point the front concrete area will be used. SSO (Classrooms Mrs Lynne Arblaster) EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. To check boys and girls primary toilets and inform anyone there to evacuate to the top oval. If the top oval is not a suitable evacuation point the front concrete area will be used. OFFICE STAFF SSSO (Ms Lisa Payne) and SSO (Mrs Lisa Burton) EVACUATION PROCEDURE 1. To leave the office area after checking the sick bay, staff and disabled toilets, the staff room, the conference room together with Kindergarten classrooms via the shelter shed to the top oval to undertake the all clear procedures and return to the office. 2. To escort sick children to safety. DEMOUNTABLE 1. Students using the demountable will be escorted via the Parish carpark gate to the top oval. If the top oval is not a suitable evacuation point the front concrete area will be used. ST JOSEPH S ROOM 1. Students using the St Joseph s room will use the doors near the primary boys toilets, via the Quiet Area to the back gate and assemble on the top oval. If the top oval is not a suitable evacuation point the front concrete area will be used. 5
SCHOOL HOSES School hoses are situated in both boys and girls toilets (both Primary and Infants) as well as in the cleaners storeroom. FIRE HYDRANTS The fire hydrants are situated near the front driveway gate on Tongarra Road. FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Please see attached map indicating the location of the Fire Extinguishers. They are located: in the corridor outside the Office in the Staffroom inside the Canteen in every Classroom in the Resource Centre in the Hall 6
