About Us At Cyclone we know that you work hard all day and we strive to make your work in the kitchen a little easier. We are as committed to providing products that are modern and stylish as we are to incorporating state-of-the-art technology. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that aesthetics and home décor do not need to be sacrificed for performance and efficient ventilation. They share equal value. The kitchen is the heart of your home, and you should be proud of it. Nothing helps keep it fresh, clean, and odour-free like a Cyclone. Cyclone is a proudly Canadian company established in Toronto, Ontario in 1991. We have been committed to providing innovative home improvement products of the highest quality and value for more than two decades. We know the importance of effective ventilation for not only you and your family s physical health, but the maintenance and structure of your home as well. Smoke, grease, bacteria, moisture and airborne contaminants caused by cooking are the cause of some major health problems in North America and will damage your house and the finish of your cabinetry. Efficient ventilation is the first step in protecting your home and family. Cyclone was created by a frustrated engineer who could not find a range hood on the market with sufficient power and decided to design his own. His creation had a unique filter-less system and self-cleaning features, and was more powerful than anything previously available. His friends and family were so impressed that word spread of his design, and soon he couldn t keep up with the demand. Since its inception Cyclone has steadily grown, expanding across Canada with distribution centres throughout the country, and broadening our product line to include other innovative products. We are continuously seeking to improve and increase our manufacturing capabilities and are excited to have begun production in our brand new state-of-the-art facility near Shanghai, China, completed in 2007. All of our products are designed in Canada to adhere to North American standards and regulations and are manufactured at our factory near Shanghai. 3

Operating Instructions Classic Collection: For models starting with NA/CY/CYS: Each fan can be controlled independently of the other with high and low speed settings via the corresponding left and right rocker switch located on the front of the machine. A third rocker switch turns the light on and off. (Picture A) Your new fan features a unique, completely filter-less design. Oil and grease are separated from the airflow via Teflon-coated fan blades. The grease is then pushed through a rubber tube into convenient easily-removable grease cups for hassle-free, environmentally-friendly cleaning. Simply remove the cups when grease builds up and clean them in the dishwasher. (Picture B) A. B. While cooking it is best to have both fans running at the same time. One fan should not be on without the other as there is a possibility of air blowback through the fan that is off. When cooking on one side of the stove, you can either have both sides on high, both sides on low or have the fan on the side of the stove that you are cooking on high and the other side on low, depending on how much you want to exhaust. The last option of having the cooking side on high and non-cooking side on low is commonly preferable because it helps save on energy consumption when cooking smaller meals or when cooking on one side of the machine and helps keep the noise level low. 4

For CY3000R: There are six speed settings. The screen will light up once the touch sensitive control power button has been pressed. The first button beside the screen to the left is low and on the opposite side is the high button. Use either side to choose your desired fan speed. (Picture C). The last button on the right is your light control. There are two light settings, simply press once for high intensity and twice for lower intensity. Clock and timer control: While the machine is off press down the power bottom until the screen begins to flash. Once it begins to flash set clock by using the high and low power buttons. The button to the left of the screen controls the hours and on the opposite side is the minute button. To set your timer, while the machine is running at your desired speed level, press down the power button until the screen begins to flash and then use the high/ low buttons to set your desired timer. C. 5

Alito Collection: Three speed settings give the customer total control of their fan at the push of a button. (Picture A) A. The Alito collection feature a time-delayed off feature which automatically shuts the fan off after anywhere from 1 to 9 minutes to conveniently clear the smoke and grease after cooking. Simply press the button with the clock icon while the machine is on (Picture B) and than use the lowest speed setting button to toggle between 1 to 9 minutes. (Picture C} B. C. These fans use standard machine washable mesh filters, however when cooking with heavy grease the filters can be removed to increase the machines suction power. Teflon-coated fan blades will separate grease from the air and the grease will then be deposited into a grease cup for easy, convenient disposal. (Picture F) You will find the grease cup in a bag with the bracket and screws in the box. The grease cup can be used in conjunction with the mesh filters with certain models, while others can only use one or the other. F. 6

Changing Light bulbs Classic Collection: Make sure all electrical power leading to the range hood has been disconnected prior to changing the light bulb. NA900`s and CY1000`s: Slide lamp cover to the right and remove light bulb. Please use compact florescent light bulbs only. All light bulbs are not to exceed 50 watts CYS/CY3000`S: Make sure light bulb is cool prior to handling. Do not touch the light bulb when it is hot. Firmly press your fingers against the light bulb and twist until loosened (Picture A) A. Alito and PRO Collection: Make sure all electrical power leading to the range hood has been disconnected prior to changing the light bulb. To change the light bulb, remove light case from the light socket. The light case can be accessed from the body of the machine. Step one: Remove grease filters and push light case outward away from the machine (Picture A and B) 7

A. B. Step two: Once the light case has been detached from the range hood, use a flat screw driver to remove the glass cover of the light case (Picture C, D and F). C. D E. Step three: Detach light bulb and replace with a new bulb (Picture F).. 8

MAINTENANCE/CLEANING To clean and maintain your Alito or Classic collection Cyclone range hood there are a number of options. Classic Undermount: 1. Spray a mixture of dishwasher soap and water into the fan blades while the machine is running. (Picture G) The soapy water will run the same path through the machine as the grease, effectively cleaning all of its internal components, and be dispensed in the grease traps for convenient disposal. (Picture H) G. H. 2. Manually take the machine apart and thoroughly clean each part by hand or place in the dishwasher. Make sure to disconnect the power every time before you proceed to take apart and thoroughly clean the machines parts. Alito and PRO Collection: 1. Remove filters and either soak in the sink or place in the dishwasher. * (Picture I) 2. Attach clear plastic grease cup and proceed to spray soap and water mixture into the fan blades while the motor is running to clean the machines interior. Soapy water will be dispensed in the grease cup for hassle-free disposal. (Picture J) I. J. *all of our range hoods have removable parts that are machine washable 9

As for the exterior of the machine it is as simple as wiping the surface areas. If the machine is stainless steel make sure to use a stainless steel cleaner and a very gentle cloth. If the fan has a coloured finish than use Windex or some other gentle cleaning agent with a damp cloth and buff it to a nice shine. (Pictures K) Classic Collection Alito/PRO Collection K. 10

GREEN FEATURES At Cyclone we are committed to providing products that are environmentallyfriendly and energy efficient. Cyclone Classic Collection: Our line of filter-less range hoods remove more air faster than filtered range hoods, while also consuming less energy. Every part of our filter-less hoods is machine washable and does not ever need to be replaced, saving space in the landfills and saving money for your family. Compact fluorescent light bulbs are accepted. Uses 2.4 amp bulbs. Cyclone Alito and Pro Collection: Cyclone s stylish Alito collection of stainless steel island and wall mount fans have thin filters that are machine washable and do not need to be frequently replaced, saving space in the landfills and saving money for your family. All Alito and PRO models feature a time-delay off feature, allowing you to set a time between one to nine minutes to keep the fan running before it shuts off, just in case you forgot, preventing unnecessary use of energy. 11

Frequently Asked Questions: When do I need a Cyclone range hood? People s cooking habits vary, but getting rid of airborne contaminants and odours that are lingering in your cooking area is important for everyone. Whether it is bacteria from cooking meat or fish, or just grease and oil from frying food, it is important for everyone to have efficient ventilation in their kitchen. Can I install a Cyclone range hood myself? Installing a Cyclone Range Hood is fairly straightforward and each machine does come with detailed installation instructions. However, installing a range hood on ones own is not recommended for those who are novices in electrical or handy work. What is the minimum mount height between range top to hood bottom? Minimum mount height between range top to hood bottom should be no less than 28. The maximum mount height should be no more than 36. The hood must be installed at the correct mounting height. Hoods mounted too low could result in heat damage. Hoods mounted too high, on the other hand, will be less effective and performance will suffer. Are there different requirements when installing a range hood for a gas range? Yes, when installing a range hood for a gas range you must mount the range hood at a minimum of 30 above the cooking area and a maximum of 36. Any lower could result in heat damage. What is the difference between an under-mount and a canopy range hood? An under-mount range hood fits underneath the cabinetry, secured to the bottom of the lower shelf. The ductwork is hidden by the cabinetry and vents through the shelves and to outside of the house. A canopy range hood is secured to the wall above the stove, and has a large venting shaft that extends upwards into the ceiling. There is no cabinetry as the canopy hood takes up all of the space above it. How can I tell the relative power of a range hood? The power of a range hood is measured by how many cubic-feet-per-minute (CFM) of air the machine can draw. Cyclones undermount fans are capable of removing air at a maximum rate 680 cubic-feet-per-minute. 12

What is the difference between a round and a rectangular opening? The difference is simply whether the venting hole on the top of the range hood is round or rectangular, to fit with the ductwork and perhaps the pre-cut round or rectangular hole in the cabinetry. Also, Cyclone range hoods with a rectangular opening have an optional opening in the back of the machine that can be popped open to vent directly out the back, as required in some homes. What type of things should I look for in a range hood? There are many factors to consider when purchasing a range hood. The power, i.e. the amount of cubic-feet-per-minute (CFM) that the machine can draw is very important along with the relative noise level. The style, colour, material, and overall aesthetics of the fan should be considered, as should the functionality of the fan, such as whether or not it requires a filter. The specific features that a particular fan boasts are important as well such as the warranty, digital control panels, the number of fan speeds, and self-cleaning features. How do I clean and maintain my Cyclone range hood? To clean and maintain a Cyclone range hood there are a number of options. First, you can spray a mixture of dishwasher soap and water into the fan blades while the machine is running. The soapy water will run the same path through the machine as the grease, effectively cleaning all of its internal components, and be dispensed in the grease traps for convenient disposal. Second, and most effective, is to manually take the machine apart and thoroughly clean each part by hand. As for the exterior of the machine it is as simple as wiping the surface areas with a damp clothe, buffing it to a nice shine. What makes Cyclone range hoods different? Cyclone s range hoods are different because they are completely filter-less, with Teflon-coated fan blades that separate grease from the airflow and deposit it into plastic grease traps located on the outside of the machine for convenient hassle-free disposal. Also our under-mount range hoods are far more powerful than average with 680 CFM of drawing power. Cyclone is the sole manufacturer and wholesaler of every product that bears our name, allowing us to offer prices unparalleled in value. What is the difference between filter and non-filter range hoods? Filter range hoods have a tightly coiled mesh filter that traps grease and oil, but reduces the fans power. Also the grease and dirt builds up and the filter becomes smelly and ineffective until replaced. Charcoal filters recycle the air rather than having it vented outside of the house, and are much less effective and powerful than both filter-less range hoods and those with mesh filters. 13
