General Evacuation Information for Lassen Hall When evacuation is necessary, occupants must leave the building immediately and quietly by the nearest designated exit or as advised. Appropriate Lassen Hall designees will direct building occupants to a safe area. Evacuation meeting areas for each floor are as follows: 1 st Floor: Large grassy area beyond the Roundhouse North of the Rose Garden. (Near to the distinct crooked tree). 2 nd Floor: Near the large concrete sculpture in the main quad area just outside of Lassen Hall North of the Rose Garden. 3 rd Floor: Area in front of the Rose Garden just past the Roundhouse. ** In the event the evacuation areas are not available the alternate site is just South West of the Yosemite Hall (YSM) DO NOT use elevators in the case of fires or earthquakes. When evacuating, building occupants should walk, remain calm, and grasp handrails on stairwells. DO NOT RE-ENTER building until instructed to do so by the appropriate authorities. IMPORTANT All emergency notifications and fire alarms will be considered genuine! Evacuation of Persons with Disabilities 1. Evacuation of persons with disabilities is the highest priority in all emergencies. 2. Any student with disabilities should prepare for an emergency ahead of time by instructing a classmate or co-worker on how to assist him/her in the event of an emergency. 3. If assistance is not immediately available, disabled persons should remain near the stairwell landing or in the elevator lobby; rescue personnel will first check all exit corridors and exit stairwells for trapped persons. He or she should continue to call for help until rescued. 4. Persons with visual impairments should learn the locations of exits and fire alarms in advance if possible and seek assistance of others as required. Additionally, they should be aware of designated meeting places and locations specifically for persons with special needs. 2

1st Floor Evacuation Procedures Meeting Place Lassen Hall Rose Garden Roundhouse IMPORTANT: The first Floor gathering area is the large grassy space beyond the Roundhouse (Java City) just left of the Rose Garden (between Douglass Hall and the Quad) close to a distinct crooked tree. Staff should leave by the closest and most convenient exit. In the event of an evacuation, the following actions must take place in this order: 1. All staff, faculty, students, and other non-staff must exit all first floor departments and all offices within each department. Building occupants must meet at the first Floor gathering area, the large grassy space beyond Java City just left of the Rose Garden (close to the Crooked Tree). If the primary rally point is not safe please proceed to the alternate rally point which is the intermural fields - West of the North Gym 2. A staff member assigned by the Building Coordinator must act as door monitor to prevent people from reentering the building before the evacuation order is lifted. The door monitor will monitor the main Lassen Hall building entrance (the east-facing doors closest to the Roundhouse). 3. Once the first floor is cleared and the door monitor assigned, the Building Coordinator must meet first floor staff at the gathering area. 4. Department Coordinators must confirm with the first floor monitor that all staff are accounted for and confirm that all areas of the 1st floor are clear of occupants. 5. Department and/or Building Coordinator(s) must ensure 1st floor staff remain in the gathering area and do not attempt to enter Lassen Hall before the evacuation order is lifted. 3

IMPORTANT NOTES AND TIPS Sign up for the Emergency Notification System, so that you can be informed of emergencies even when you are away from your desk by text message on your cell phone. Go to www.csus.edu/ens to sign up. In the case of an emergency, your desk phone will triple ring. You must speak into the phone (saying hello for example) for the message to start. You may grab your personal belongings before leaving the building, but only if it will not delay your exit. Second Floor Evacuation Procedures Meeting Place Lassen Hall Rose Garden Roundhouse IMPORTANT: The 2 nd Floor meeting place is the large concrete sculpture in the main quad area just outside of Lassen Hall. Staff should leave by the closest and most convenient exit as soon as possible In the event of an evacuation, the following actions must take place in this order: 1. All staff, faculty, students, and other non-staff must exit all second floor departments and all offices within each department. The second floor gathering spot is the large concrete sculpture in the main quad area just outside of Lassen Hall. 2. A staff member assigned by the Building Coordinator must act as door monitor to prevent people from reentering the building before the evacuation order is lifted. The second floor door monitor will monitor the Lassen Hall entrance closest to Admissions & Outreach just outside Lassen 1102 (north side of the building, exit faces east). 3. Once the second floor is cleared and the door monitor assigned, the Building Coordinator must meet second floor staff at the gathering area. 4. Department Coordinators must confirm with the first floor monitor that all staff are accounted for and confirm that all areas of the 2nd floor are clear of occupants. 5. Department and/or Building Coordinator(s) must ensure second floor staff remain in the gathering area and do not attempt to enter Lassen Hall before the evacuation order is lifted. 3 rd Floor Evacuation Procedures Meeting Place Roundhouse Lassen Hall Rose Garden IMPORTANT: The 3rd Floor meeting place is at the Rose Garden past the Roundhouse, near Douglass Hall. The third floor door monitor will monitor the Lassen Hall entrance closest to Services for Students with Disabilities (SSWD), near the elevator, on the south side of the building. 3. Once the third floor is cleared and the door monitor assigned, the Building Coordinator must meet third floor staff at the gathering area. 4. Department Coordinators must provide the Building Coordinator or floor marshal a list of staff that are accounted for and confirm that all areas of the third floor are clear of occupants. 5. Department and/or Building Coordinator(s) must ensure third floor staff remain in the gathering area and do not attempt to enter Lassen Hall before the evacuation order is lifted.
