DC Swearingen attended the VCC Operating Board and Zone 3 Chiefs meetings on Thursday, August 8 th at VCC. The Finance Committee and Board of Governance held their monthly meetings on Thursday, August 8 th at Headquarters Station 31. Recruit Firefighter Andrew Drew Mattheis began the State Fire Academy in North Bend on Thursday, August 8 th. The fire training academy is a twelve week program. VRFA Board of Governance and staff participated in the Auburn Days Parade and Celebration on Saturday, August 10 th and Sunday, August 11 th. This Week: Command Staff will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 13 th Headquarters Station 31. 911 Requests for Services / Customer Service: Aid Call: (Lakeland Hills) On Monday, August 5 th at 8:45 a.m., firefighters assisted an elderly female complaining of back pain. The patient was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by private ambulance. Aid Call: (Algona) On Tuesday, August 6 th at 11:34 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to assist an ill adult female. Firefighters evaluated the patient who was transported to St Francis via private ambulance. Motor Vehicle Accident: (Lea Hill) On Wednesday, August 7 th at 4:00 p.m., firefighters and King County Medics responded to a T-bone motor vehicle accident with one (1) patient trapped. Firefighters extricated the patient using hydraulic tools. The patients were evaluated, stabilized and transported to Valley Medical Center by private ambulance. Aid Call: (Auburn) On Thursday, August 8 th at 2.22 p.m., firefighters and King County Medics responded to an elderly male with a decreased level of consciousness. Crews treated the patient and transported him to MAMC for further evaluation. Aid Call: (Pacific) On Friday, August 9 th at 10:19 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a male complaining of chest discomfort. Firefighters evaluated the patient, with King County Medics. The patient was transported to MAMC by private ambulance in stable condition for further evaluation. Motor Vehicle Accident: (Auburn) On Saturday, August 10 th at 9:51 p.m., firefighters responded to a two vehicle accident. One of the vehicles careened off the roadway and struck a tree. All patients were able to selfextricate from the vehicles. One adult male was treated for injuries at the scene and transported to MAMC by VRFA personnel. Minor Fire: (Lakeland Hills) On Sunday, August 11 th at 9:46 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a garage fire at a residence. Upon arrival, firefighters found the garage charged with smoke and fire isolated to one wall of the residence. Firefighters extinguished the fire and completed overhaul.

One new recruit firefighter reported to the North Bend Recruit Academy on August 8 th Zone-3 Truck Training at Renton Station 14. City of Auburn Emergency Operations Center Orientation Station Safety Inspections Training Activities Projected: Technical Rescue Friday 3 rd Quarter Defibrillation Zone-3 Training Officers Meeting One new recruit firefighter is attending the Washington State Recruit Academy Fire Marshal s Office: Business Inspections ICC certified Deputy Fire Marshals performed 22 initial and follow-up inspections of commercial and multifamily occupancies in Southwest and Southeast Auburn. This week we will continue the inspection program in Southeast Auburn. Deputy Fire Marshal Upton completed 3 rd quarter EMS training including his CPR refresher and Child airway obstructions. Deputy Fire Marshals followed up with local apartment complexes to track progress on compliance with common fire code issues such as fire lane markings and address markings. The FMO is starting a pilot project to improve response times to emergency calls by enforcing the address marking codes at multi-family properties. The basic goal is to have all apartments clearly marked so crews can quickly identify the correct address of an incident. Recreational Outdoor Burn Permits will not be valid during a Burn Ban.

Public Education PIEO staff participated in the monthly car seat check at the Auburn Medical Center. Car seat checks are sponsored by Safe Kids of South King County. PIEO staff conducted a fire setter intervention with a 13 year old boy. Crews from all five stations visited several National Night Out events. The antique engine and Sparky were both in the Auburn Days Parade along with Station 31 crews who transported former Auburn Fire Chief Bob Johnson in the ladder truck. Chief Johnson served as the parade grand marshal. Engine 38 attended family day at Dynacraft in Algona to talk to kids about fire safety.
Fire Investigation: There were 2 VRFA calls for service for SKFITF Fire Investigators this week. A 1955 Chevy Pickup rolled over on Highway 167 in Pacific and caught fire. A man who witnessed the accident pulled the two occupants out of the burning vehicle. VRFA and East Pierce Fire and Rescue crews provided medical treatment to the injured people and extinguished the truck. The value of the truck is estimated at $15,000 and the cause is deemed unintentional. A discarded cigarette that started a planter on fire outside the homeowner s garage caused about $2,500 in damage to the garage. The fire was quickly extinguished and damage was limited to a single wall in the garage. Planning and Logistics P&L received four facility maintenance requests and eight apparatus and small tool maintenance requests. Staff participated in CAD performance testing. NFPA required advanced inspection and cleaning of bunker gear was completed several weeks early by a contracted vendor.
