Hanging Verses Pack Hanging fill is installed in some manufacturers factory assembled towers when originally built in the factory. Most manufacturers, including BAC and Marley, offer pack fill on many of their towers as a field replacement option. The hanging fill is used in the factory with ease due to the cooling tower not being fully assembled. Fill is installed on pipes, then set in with a crane. In the field, this most likely cannot be done unless towers hot water basins are removed. In order to install the hanging fill in an existing tower, the tower structure would have to be compromised by cutting large holes in the basin and end-walls to slide fill support pipe in or options two would be; the support pipes would need to be cut and a smaller pipe slide inside the now two pipes, therefore, compromising the strength of the hanging supports of the fill itself. Crossflow Fill Kits are strong, glued PVC bundles that are of the same material as the factory-installed product, but is put together in a way that is stronger, superior, and maintenance friendly, long with strong FRP bottom supports, to promote a long tower life. Some salesmen try to enforce the idea of only using hanging fill in their towers. And because it is only meant to be installed during tower erection it is only available to them, not available aftermarket. These salesmen offer bottom-supported fill for their rebuilds, also.

Our design team can incorporate options such as stand-alone PVC eliminators for units with excessive drift, built-in air inlet louvers to allow for removal of existing corrugated inlet louvers, and a variable of mil thickness of the PVC for high temperature conditions. Easier to Maintain EVAPCO lightweight modular fill bundles are glued together, which makes them strong, easy to maintain, and hold up to cleanings year after year. Other manufacturers individual hanging sheets tend to bend and curl when hit with a pressure washer or even high winds, making them weak. Individual hanging fill sheets are permanent, thus if you have damage to a section or if you just need access to the cold-water basin a full fill change would be needed. EVAPCO s lightweight modular fill is easy to remove. This desirable feature allows for easy cleaning and access to all the interior sheet metal surfaces of the tower. This is important for periodic inspection of the steel surfaces, performing basic repairs, installing a protective coating, or to seal leaking sheet metal seams.

This allows for easy cleaning of this critical area in the basin. Access to the basin floor on other manufacturers towers with hanging fill sheets is very often impossible. It is difficult to clean this area because, over time, the hanging fill sheets often extend to the tower floor due to water and debris loading. When the hanging sheets rest on the tower basin, debris is trapped in this area and can accelerate corrosion of the basin panels. Nozzles, air inlet louvers, and drift eliminators are not clogged with debris and are not dislodged and are in like-new condition neither restricting proper water flow and air distribution within the tower. Adequate plenum allowed within the tower for uniform fill and drift eliminator airflow. Distribution nozzles are properly sized and spaced to provide full and uniform water coverage over the fill with no dry or flooded areas. Pack slant angle no more than 10 degrees to the vertical. Hot water basin is level and adequate for the nozzles in use. Circulating water salinity less than 5,000 ppm. No recirculation or interference from other cooling towers or surrounding structures.
