The Unico SRP system embeds a feature-rich sucker rod pumping controller into its Variable Speed Drive (VSD). It is self-tuning and also self-identifies many of a well s unique characteristics at start-up with its Well ID Routine. During run-time, it continually monitors for and adapts to stroke-by-stroke and long-term changes. With the SRP system there is no need to use time and money to continually revisit well sites to revise drive or Pump Off Controller (POC) setups. See Figure #1 - Unico SRP Downhole Protection VSD System. The Unico SRP system s VSD uses AC vector control to precisely control both motor speed and torque independently. Its patented 1 methods also eliminate the need for a bridal load cell and cables while also drawing surface and downhole pump dynamometer plots, or dynacards, as good as or better than units with a load cell. The Unico VSD s vector control offers many benefits over traditional variable frequency controller used in oil and gas applications. The Unico SRP drive with its embedded SRP software can even run valve check tests automatically every day. You can't do that with any other controller. 1 United States Patent #s: 7168924, 8444393 and 9528355
One problem a typical controller will have with drawing downhole pump dynacards is that rod drag and other frictional loads often change stroke-by-stroke. The Unico SRP system has solved that problem by automatically detecting and eliminating the effects of these loads so that the downhole pump fluid load is always accurate. This allows it to produce accurate surface and downhole pump dynacards and thereby accurately estimate fluid flow, pump intake pressure and fluid over the pump without frequent site visits to tweak control parameters. The Unico SRP system s VSD provides operators with a proven pump fill controller plus a suite of software tools designed to mitigate a wide array of rod lift complications, produce accurate dynacards and data trends operators can rely on. The embedded controller provides closed loop downhole pump fill control on accurately measured liquid and gas pump fill percentages and automatically adapts to changing well inflows. The Unico SRP system utilizes the entire pumping unit speed range to maintain the target pump fill set-point eliminating fluid pound even on the highly variable, slug prone, deep, and crooked horizontal Eagle Ford wells. Using a SCADA System, such as the Unico GMC System, operating conditions can be highlighted as they change. See Figure #2 The Unico igmc Mobile App. The Unico SRP system produces and stores accurate surface and downhole pump dynacards that operators and engineers can believe in. It has more than 1600 data items and 10000 chart data SCADA registers of valuable information about well operation that are not available in other controllers. You can always have accurate surface and downhole pump dynacards on your SCADA system without continually changing setup values! See Figure #3 - Well #1 Summary and Figure #4 - Well #2 Summary. The following are examples of a few of the easy to use embedded tools and how they were used on the two wells during the field trial. One unique feature is the Counter Balance Assistant and chart. The chart overlays the Measured Torque (black), the As Balanced Torque (magenta), and the Counterbalance Assist Torque (pink). When these signals closely match, the well is balanced. The operator can find this chart on the display s on-screen charts and on page 2 of the 6-page automated Well Performance Report. This chart is also available via SCADA. See Figure #5 - Well #1 Before balancing and Figure #6 - Well #1 After balancing.
Another unique feature of is the automated Valve Check Test and chart. This is an automatic routine without the need for any tools or brakes. This feature increases operator safety and productivity. The operator can find this chart on page 2 of the 6-page automated Well Performance Report. The Valve Check Test can be programmed to automatically run daily without an operator. With this tool, you get an accurate daily fluid production estimate. This chart is also available via SCADA. See Figure #7 - Well #2 Valve Check Chart. With the Unico SRP system the actual measured gearbox torque, pump average speed, rod and pump load and rod friction data are available for trending over time. Plotting trends like auto rod friction allow the user to remotely diagnose and predict when a site visit is necessary. Remotely monitoring wells saves time and money. Don t schedule service before or after it was needed. For one example, changes to the rod friction are available to chart. Our engineers use this chart to monitor wells for paraffin buildup. They know when site visits are necessary and when they are not. Not only does this save you money on site visits it also optimizes your chemical usage. See Figure #8 Rod Friction Trend Chart Safety first. You can use Bluetooth to interact wirelessly with the Unico SRP system at a safe distance. Using the Unico Connected ios Mobile App operators get easy onsite connection to the controller. This increases operator safety and productivity. Well performance reports and other trends can be quickly obtained and emailed on the spot. Field hands love this ability and it saves time and money. The operator can upload a complete comprehensive well performance report and review the well s Event History to see what has been happening. With an ipad, they can do everything that can be done at the keypad/display on the VSD s enclosure at a distance: see the operating state, view and change setups, clear faults, and restart the well without having to leave their vehicle. No other controller offers this much information so easily. See Figure #9 Remote Control with Bluetooth.
