2018 ARS Tenarky District Rose Show Millington, TN - October 13, 2018 The Memphis & Dixie Rose Society and the Tenarky District of the American Rose Society gratefully acknowledges the dedication and love of roses of the below listed Arrangement, Horticultural and Photography judges. Many of the judges have traveled long distances to be a part of this rose show. We sincerely appreciate their participation and say thank you many times over. Judges

2018 ARS Tenarky District Rose Show Millington, TN - October 13, 2018 The grooming area will open at 1:00 AM. Exhibitors will place their own entries from 6:00 AM until 9:30 AM being careful not to touch or move another entry. Rose Show personnel will be available to assist exhibitors as needed. Challenge Class Entries are not to be touched by anyone except the entrant. Cash Prizes, Trophies, Certificates and Ribbons (if desired) may be picked up Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 4:00 PM except prizes for the Three (3) Major Tenarky District Challenge Classes (Designated with an asterisk *) and Queens of Show (Hybrid Tea, Floribunda Spray, Dowager, Shrub, Victorian, Miniature and Miniflora) which will be presented at the Awards Banquet Saturday evening. RULES 1. Except for District Challenge Classes, competition is open to all rose growers registered for the Convention regardless of residence. ARS Tenarky District Challenge Classes Section B Classes 2 16 are open only to exhibitors who are members of the Tenarky District. The Portland National Challenge Class Section A Class 1 is open only to ARS members with an ARS Membership Expiration Date after October 14, 2018 who are registered for the convention. 2. Entries are judged by ARS accredited and/or ARS apprentice judges according to ARS Guidelines and Rules for Judging Roses and other show conditions as set forth in this Rose Show Schedule. Only Blue Ribbon Winners are eligible for Awards. The point scale at the bottom of the Rose Show Rules will be incorporated into the judging of the roses in accordance to ARS Rules and Regulations. Particular attention should be paid to reasons for disqualification (DQ) as listed in these guidelines and below. 3. Entries are to be placed from 6:00 am until 9:30 AM on October 13, 2018. Only one exhibitor or team per garden is permitted and rose(s) MUST be outdoor grown. Judging will commence promptly at 9:45 AM and is anticipated to conclude at approximately 12:30 PM (or earlier) at which time the rose show will be open to the general public. The decision(s) of the judges is final. The Rose Show Committee will furnish all containers except as specifically noted in the Rose Show Schedule. Each entry must be accompanied by a securely folded ARS Entry Tag(s) completed with Section, Class, Variety and Exhibitor Name(s), address and Convention (Exhibitor) Registration Number(s). Both top and Bottom portions of the ARS Entry Tag need be completed. Only Pencil, Blue or Black ink, Stamp with Blue or Black ink or Printed Name Labels may be used. 4. Wedging of green Styrofoam only is permitted; however, an entry may be penalized if the wedging extends above the lip of the vase according to the degree of distraction. 5. With the exception of Seedlings and Sports, rose varieties exhibited must be entered under the approved exhibition name adopted by the American Rose Society as listed in any one of the following official ARS publications: Modern Roses 12 (Book and Data Base), The Official List of Approved Exhibition Names for Judges and Exhibitors, The Handbook for Selecting Roses, or Recent Registrations on the ARS web site. In instances where a variety is not listed in any of the above listed ARS publications, a listing in the 2018 Combined Rose List is acceptable. 6. With the exception of Challenge Classes and classes specifying multiple varieties, all roses in each class will be placed alphabetically and each variety in each class shall constitute a separate class to be judged separately. During judging, only the Rose Show Committee, Judges and Clerks will be permitted in the Rose Show Area.

7. With the exception of Seedling and Sports, all entries become the property of the Memphis & Dixie Rose Society and will either be sold off at the conclusion of the Rose Show or donated to local hospitals and nursing homes. 8. ARS Certificates, M & D Certificates and Cash Prizes will be awarded as set forth in the Rose Show Schedule. Point Scale for Judging Roses Form 25 Substance 15 Color 20 Stem and Foliage 20 Balance and Proportion 10 Size 10 100 Reasons for Disqualification a. Misnamed, misclassed, misplaced by the exhibitor, unlabeled, partially labeled or mislabeled. b. Stem on Stem which is a specimen exhibited with a portion of the previous stem growth attached. Exception: Old Garden Roses and Shrub roses may be shown Stem on Stem but, only with one dog leg. c. Presence of foreign substance applied to the foliage, stem or bloom to improve the appearance of the specimen. d. Not disbudded. Any class calling for a one-bloom per stem specimen must be exhibited without side buds. A side bud is defined as growth emanating from a leaf axil and having sufficient maturity to display the formation of a stem with or without flower buds. The presence of one or more leaves at the leaf axil with no evidence of a stem is cause for penalization according to the degree of distraction but, not disqualification. Exception: Species, Old Garden Roses, Climbers and Shrub one bloom per stem specimens may be exhibited with side buds. e. An entry in violation of ARS rules or local society rules applying to this rose show. f. Any rose that has been entered in this show with a name that has not been recognized by the American Rose Society will be disqualified. Roses are to be exhibited with the recognized ARS exhibition name (AEN).

Portland City of Roses National Traveling Trophy - An entry of five (5) roses of five (5) different varieties to be staged in separate vases with separate entry tags. The entry is to consist of a minimum of two (2) Sprays. The Prizes and Awards Committee of the American Rose Society has approved the wording of this Challenge Class which is open to any ARS member holding current membership as of October 14, 2018 regardless of residence. Tenarky District Rose Show Challenge Classes Entries are open only to registered exhibitors of the Rose Show who are members of the Tenarky District. Limit of one (1) entry per exhibitor per Challenge Class. Exhibitors place entries. 36 width space limitation. All winning entries will receive M & D RS Certificates and Cash Prizes. Section B. Artist Palette Challenge Class Five (5) Hybrid Tea and/or Grandiflora, Floribunda or Shrub rose blooms at exhibition stage, each a different variety, representative of colors used by an artist. Exhibitors may use their own palette. Cash Prize & ARS Certificate Class 25. Hi Lo Challenge Class One (1) bloom per stem Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora or Floribunda rose and one (1) bloom per stem Miniature or Miniflora rose matched as closely as possible for form and color shown in separate containers. Class 26. English Box Hybrid Tea Challenge Class Six (6) Hybrid Tea and/or Grandiflora or Floribunda roses without foliage, of the same variety or three different varieties of two (2) each, at exhibition stage. Exhibitors may use their own English Box. Cash Prize & ARS Certificate Class 27. Stages of Bloom Challenge Class Three (3) Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora blooms of the same variety representative of the three distinct stages of development. One bloom should be approximately ¼ open just beginning to unfurl with sepals down, one bloom should be at exhibition stage ½ to ¾ open and one bloom should be fully open with stamens showing, exhibited in separate containers. Rose in a Bowl Challenge Class One (1) Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora or Floribunda rose at exhibition stage floating in clear water in a bowl furnished by the Memphis & Dixie Rose Society. Cash Prize & ARS Certificate Class 29. Picture Frame Hybrid Tea Challenge Class - One (1) Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora or Floribunda bloom exhibited in an 8 ½ x 11 picture frame. Tenarky District Judges Class Entries are open only to registered exhibitors of the Tenarky District Rose Show who are not exhibiting in Class 1 through and including Class 69. There is a limit on the total number of entries of four (4) roses per class for Class 70 through and including Class 73 that a judge may make. Exhibitors place entries. All winning entries will receive Memphis & Dixie Rose Society Certificates. The Best Entry from Class 70 through and including Class 73 will receive an ARS certificate. Section I. Class 70. Judges Large Rose Exhibition Class One (1) bloom per stem, at exhibition stage, of Hybrid Tea, Floribunda, Shrub and OGR rose. Limit of four (4) entries per judge.
