CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS ATEST Thursday 15th February

Transcription:

SIBECOL 2019 1 st Meeting of the Iberian Ecological Society XIV AEET Meeting Barcelona, Spain 4 th - 7 th February 2019 Ecology: an integrative science in the Anthropocene Coinciding with the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Professor Ramon Margalef, we are pleased to announce the first Iberian Ecological Society Meeting (Sociedad Ibérica de Ecologia, SIBECOL). The conference is co-organized by the Asociación Española de Ecología Terrestre (AEET), the Asociación Ibérica de Limnologia (AIL), the Sociedad Española de Etología y Ecología Evolutiva (SEEEE), the Sociedade Portuguesa de Ecologia (SPECO), as well as the group of Iberian Marine Ecologists. The conference will concur with the XIV AEET Meeting. The conference will address the great transdisciplinary and integrative background of Ecology. The aim of the conference is to highlight crosscutting ecological concepts shared by the different branches of this discipline (limnology, marine ecology, terrestrial ecology, theoretical ecology), regardless of the study system. We seek to exchange ideas and approaches that are common to different specialties in Ecology, and to provide a platform to discuss how ecological sciences can help to deal with the huge environmental transformations induced by human societies. A preliminary list of themes includes the following topics: The interplay between ecology and evolution Biogeography and macroecology Biodiversity and ecological networks Microbial ecology across scales Functional and structural responses to water and nutrient constrains Biotic interactions and ecosystem functioning Extreme events footprints across ecosystems The water-land interphase: from molecules to ecosystems Global change impacts on biogeochemistry and ecosystem productivity Biodiversity and ecosystem conservation How Ecology serves the Society: services and nature-based solutions Ramon Margalef legacy

Conference venue The conference will be held at University of Barcelona, Biology Faculty, Ramon Margalef building (Diagonal 643, Barcelona) http://www.ub.edu/biologia/queoferim/index/planol.html Scientific sessions Participants are encouraged to send session proposals. We are looking for transdisciplinary and integrative scientific sessions. The sessions are encouraged to address aspects of the main proposed topics of the conference (see above). Yet, any other subject of broad ecological interest that embraces different branches in Ecology will be welcomed. In the interest of broad participation, each participant may only submit one session proposal. Time allocated to each accepted session will vary between 1.5 and 2.5 hours depending on the number of registered abstracts. A session will consist of one keynote talk (optional) and shorter oral presentations. Keynote talks will be 25 min long with 5 additional min for questions and discussion. Short oral presentations will be 12 min long with 3 additional min for questions and discussions. Depending on the number of abstracts registered within each session, the organizers can decide whether to include a slot of flash presentations (3 min each). The sessions will be open for any contributor interested in participating and oral contributions will be accepted up to fill the allotted time. All proposals will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee on the basis of the following criteria: scientific quality, potential interest by meeting attendees, a clearly written and compelling description, and potential keynote speaker and participants. Please note that meeting registration is not waived or reduced for anyone participating to a session, keynote speakers included, and that the meeting organization will be not able to provide any travel and subsistence allowances. Participants interested in organizing scientific sessions are asked to submit his/her proposals before the 5 th of May 2018 to http://www.congresosociedadibericaecologia2019.net/. Please include in the proposal the title of the session, name of the organizer/s, a short summary (100-200 words), and the name of a potential keynote speaker. See instructions and download template at http://www.congresosociedadibericaecologia2019.net/. Session organizers will be notified of decisions by early June. Contributions We look forward to receive contributions for oral and poster presentations after the scientific sessions have been selected. Call for contributions will be open by the 4 th of June 2018. All participants are invited to submit the title and abstract of his/her contribution by 10 th of July the latest. If accepted, the abstract will be available at the web site of the conference. Each participant can only submit one contribution (either one poster or oral presentation) as first or presenting author. The language for the written communications (title and abstract of contributions) will be English. English is also the recommended language for text in slides and posters. Participants can use English, Spanish or Portuguese in oral presentations and discussions at their own convenience. Workshops Workshops are intended to convey specific knowledge or skills, as well as an opportunity to become familiarized with the use of auxiliary technology tools for quantitative and qualitative research methods. They can involve extended discussion as well as hands-on training sessions. Workshops may be organized by one or several leaders/presenters. All workshops will be scheduled on Monday afternoon, 4th of February. Proposals should include title, brief description (250 words max., including the knowledge, skills, or tools that participants are expected to gain from the course), name and contact of organizers, as well as minimum and maximum number of suitable participants and specific prerequisites of participants. The Organizing Committee will select workshops among the received proposals to fulfil the available slots, on the basis of the scientific quality and the potential interest by meeting attendees. Workshops are often particularly addressed to students, but they will be open to all meeting attendees, first-come first-served, meeting the stated prerequisites. Fees for attendance to workshops may be applied. Interested workshop organizers are asked to submit proposals until 4 th of June 2018 at http://www.congresosociedadibericaecologia2019.net/.
