At Ag Performance, we believe defining the smallest area of grid samples a farmer can afford, is the best starting point (preferably no larger that 2.5 acre grids). These samples must include testing the macro nutrients with a base saturation at each geo reference point. These samples are used to develop spread maps that will show where the nutrients are needed in the fields. An analysis of the farmer s machinery line-up helps us determine what method is most appropriate for placement of the product in the soil, so it does not tie up nutrients. Most tie-ups in the soil are due to low ph, high Magnesium, high ph and residual roundup or just not enough nutrients in the soil profile. A lot of times these recommendations may change due to tissue samples, economic conditions and the goals a farmer wishes to obtain. Walking the fields throughout the growing season is necessary to determine if there are possible nutrient deficiencies that have developed. At the end of the season, when yield data is compiled, we overlap all other maps to help improve next year s yields and net return.
