INTRODUCTION The brief was to create a stunning property that focused more on the quality of the space provided rather than the overall amount of space. This allowed us to design fantastic spaces which fl ow into each other, with each key room having its own individual wow factor. Hush requested that we treat the outdoor space with the same reverence as the indoors. This allowed us to create 3 distinct areas. An outdoor swimming pool with sun-lounger terrace, outdoor kitchen, fire place and dining area with smart generous lawned garden. The Contemplation Garden to the rear of the property provides a quieter space which is separate from the other outdoor spaces around the house. This area contains a chill-out zone with fi re pit, mood lighting and the opportunity to create a vibrant planting area in and around the Pond. All key rooms will have a view of this stunning space, a space that will undoubtedly be admired by all who see it. The drive in to the property has been reimagined with two sets of electric gates for easy access and egress from the property. A glimpse of the formal garden can be gained through the ornate hedge as guests arrive at the house, a tease if you will of what is to come. The main entrance dining-hall, accessed from the one-and-a half-storey height entrance lobby, comprises a doubleheight hall with large open fi replace and chimney breast, galleried fi rst fl oor landing and feature sweeping staircase with full-height lighting installation, and a walk-in wine and champagne room large enough to accommodate pre-dinner tasting sessions. This stunning room gives a new meaning to the phrase A sense of arrival, with views of the Swimming Pool on one side and Contemplation Garden on the other. Above the fire one can place a statement piece of art or indeed a beautiful mirror to refl ect the elegant surroundings. Following on from the original brief, we wanted to create a large open plan Kitchen-Breakfast area with access on to the Pool terrace and for those summer barbecues and pool parties, access to the outdoor Kitchen area. To ensure that rooms were open and spacious, we allowed the family room to continue on from the Kitchen/Breakfast area with a stunning fi re place located at the end of the room. From here one can access the Reception Room via double doors from the Family area or the hallw ay. The master bedroom suite, located furthest away from the main house entrance for privacy, comprises a generous bedroom suite with private balcony, a large walk-in wardrobe and dressing area, the latter of which overlooks the main garden, with a large en-suite and separate bath, WC room, double shower and double wash hand basins. There are 4 further bedroom suites including a large guest suite. A large two car garage with heated fl oor, insulated garage doors, boot room and an area for bikes, jet skis and golf clubs set alongside the garage, providing all the storage required for the modern family of today. 3
1.0 EXISTING HOUSE AND GARDENS 4
1.1 INITIAL DESIGN CONCEPT 1.1 Initial Design Concept The proposed house divides the external spaces into three distinct character areas, as shown in the conceptual diagram opposite, namely: the driveway and approach, the Formal Garden and the Contemplation Garden. The house sits at the heart of these three external spaces and enjoys views into and across them. The primary ground fl oor reception rooms and fi rst fl oor bedrooms all face south, enjoying high levels of sunlight throughout the seasons. Upon entry to the grounds through the entrance gates, the approach and sweeping driveway provide a transitional space that provides glimpses of what lies beyond the front door but still maintains a high degree of privacy to the rest of the house until you pass through the front door and into the grand dining and entrance hall. 3.0 THE ENTRANCE 3.0 The Entrance One enters the property via an electric entrance gate. When approaching the front door, a glimpse view of the Formal Garden and Swimming Pool can be gained through the feature porthole in the ornate hedge. The sweeping driveway will then lead to a full height front door set within a storey-and-a-half-high entrance lobby. There will be surface parking for up to 3 large cars, a generous double-garage with heated fl oor and dedicated area for cycles and hobby-workshop. 9 Visual Location
3.1 THE DINING HALL 3.1 The Dining Hall Upon passing through the entrance lobby, the double-height dining hall provides a dramatic entrance and grand reveal. Featuring a large open fi re, double-height chimney breast, direct views and access to the swimming pool, a view of the feature staircase, contemporary chandelier and glimpse views through to the more private Contemplation Garden. Access to the wine tasting room is also off of the dinning hall ensuring that this area is one of the key entertaining spaces of this stunning home. Visual Location 10
3.2 THE SWIMMING POOL + FORMAL GARDEN 3.2 Swimming Pool + Formal Garden The pool and its sun lounger terrace sit at the north-eastern end of the private Formal Garden, separated from the driveway by the large hedge; this location and orientation place the pool and sun terrace in a natural sun trap that will enjoy sunlight throughout the day and particularly from around 11.00am onwards through to the late evening. Mood-lighting from the swimming pool and terrace will add further glamour and ambiance to evening occasions held in the grand dining hall, which looks out onto the pool and terrace. Sitting alongside the pool and opposite the kitchen and breakfast rooms, the outdoor dining area and outdoor kitchen provide the ideal environment for relaxing and partying in the summer months, when the house becomes one with the garden. 11 Visual Location
3.3 ARCHITECTURAL FORM 3.3 Architectural Form The highly-glazed reception rooms of the ground fl oor, with their sweeping views across the Formal Garden, are shaded by the over-hanging and more solid form of the fi rst fl oor. As the building rises from ground to fi rst fl oor, the building steps away from the plot s northern boundary to allow afternoon sunlight to the inner Contemplation Garden and to respect the amenity of the neighbouring property. The Master Bedroom s recessed terrace provides a secluded and very private area to have ones breakfast on, whilst enjoying the morning sun. The external facades will be composed of clean, horizontal lines and contemporary materials, such as through-coloured render, natural stone and copper or zinc cladding, that will weather well and will enhance the modern aesthetic of this long, linear building. Visual Location 12
3.4 CONTEMPLATION GARDEN 3.4 Contemplation Garden The Contemplation Garden, set between the curving form of the house and mature northern boundary hedge, provides a quieter and more private outdoor space in which to unwind. The sunken fi re pit, sits next to the lily pond, providing a great place to gather on a summers evening, the stepping of the first fl oor away from the northern boundary allowing late afternoon and evening sun to reach this space during the summer months. The lily pond, with its aquatic planting, stepping stones and water-level decking, creates an ambience of calm; the sound of gently moving water further enhances the peace and tranquillity of this refl ective space. 13 Visual Location
4.0 DESIGN CONCEPTS The Entrance The Wine Room The Feature Staircase The Kitchen Clean lines, luxurious internal fi nishes and contemporary details inside and out typify the approach to the design of this stunning residence. 14 The Images shown are indicative only of style and finish.
5.0 THE GROUNDS The external spaces comprise a series of formal and informal, highly sculpted gardens and outdoor rooms, which contrast lush planting with cool, contemporary surface materials. The use of texture and warmth, in surface fi nish, colour, and lighting, will further enhance the experience of these carefully crafted outdoor spaces.
